[2.C. Warren County Educational Endowment Presentation]

EVENING, WE HAVE THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT PRESENTATION.

GOOD EVENING.

AND THANK YOU FOR LETTING US BE FIRST ON THE AGENDA BECAUSE WE HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS FOR YOU.

AND WE'D LIKE TO START YOUR MEETING OFF ON A POSITIVE NOTE.

JOINING.

UH, MY NAME IS MARYANNE BIGGS AND JOINING ME THIS EVENING IS JOANNE REKO AND DR. NANCY LEE.

THE THREE OF US SERVE AS BOARD MEMBERS FOR THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATION ENDOWMENT.

AND IT OCCURRED TO ME THIS MORNING THAT THE THREE OF US STANDING IN FRONT OF YOU REPRESENT 101 YEAR'S SERVICE IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, .

NOT THAT WE NEED THE CREDIT, BUT THAT'S A LITTLE BIT SCARY.

SO WE ALL SERVE, AS I SAID, AS BOARD MEMBERS.

AND WE, BECAUSE OF OUR EXPERIENCE, ARE VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT PUBLIC EDUCATION.

AND SO WE'RE HAPPY TO BE HERE TO TALK WITH YOU AND TO, TO, UM, HAVE A LITTLE TIME TO SHOW WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT.

JUST A WORD ABOUT HOW WE WERE BORN.

UM, ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO, SOME OF YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT THE PUBLIC SCHOOL WAS GOING THROUGH A REALLY BAD TIME.

THE COMMUNITY WAS GOING THROUGH A REALLY BAD TIME AND THERE WAS A LOT OF FRICTION AND IT WAS A REALLY TOUGH TIME TO BE HERE.

AND SOME OF THE VISIONARIES IN OUR COMMUNITY GOT TOGETHER AND SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT? WE'RE BETTER THAN THIS.

WE DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS.

THERE'S A WAY WE CAN FIGURE OUT SUPPORT FOR THIS COMMUNITY, FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL.

AND SO THESE VISIONARIES FORMED A GROUP.

THEY WERE PEOPLE LIKE JOHN MARLOW, REVEREND UM, MARK JORDAN, UH, CAROL DODSON, DR.

DICK NANA, AND THERE WERE OTHERS.

AND THEY SAID, WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT CAN WE DO TO INCREASE THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS? AND ONE OF THE THINGS THEY CHALLENGED THEMSELVES TO DO WAS THEY SAID, WE ARE GOING TO RAISE A MILLION DOLLARS IN PRIVATE MONEY TO SUPPORT PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

AND THE GIFTS CAME.

THE GIFTS CAME FROM ORGANIZATIONS, THEY CAME FROM CORPORATIONS, THEY CAME FROM FAMILIES, THEY CAME FROM BUSINESSES, AND THEY CAME FROM INDIVIDUALS.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES IS THAT THE LARGEST SINGLE GIFT THAT WE GOT CAME FROM THE ESTATE OF A TEACHER, A VERY

[00:05:01]

LOW KEY, UNASSUMING, DEDICATED TEACHER.

AFTER HER PASSING, WE GOT A CHECK FOR $200,000.

AND THAT WAS JUST ONE.

SO THE MILLION DOLLARS WAS RAISED AND WAS INVESTED.

AND NOW EACH YEAR WE AWARD GRANTS TO PEOPLE IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WHO HAVE CREATIVE IDEAS ABOUT HOW TO INCREASE AND, AND HENCE THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN.

SO NANCY IS GONNA TALK FOR A MINUTE ABOUT OUR GRANTS.

FIRST OF ALL, I'D LIKE TO SAY THAT I AM A PRODUCT OF WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

I STARTED IN KINDERGARTEN, WELL, IT WASN'T A KINDERGARTEN.

I STARTED IN FIRST GRADE, GRADUATED FROM WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.

OUR CHILDREN, ALL THREE CHILDREN WENT THROUGH WARREN COUNTY.

OUR GRANDCHILDREN ARE GOING THROUGH WARREN COUNTY.

IT'S BEEN A GREAT STEPPING STONES AND UH, I'M PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF THAT.

SO, WOW, SOME OF THE GRANTS THAT WE HAVE GIVEN OVER THE YEARS HAVE BEEN JUST UNBELIEVABLE.

AND SO I'M JUST GONNA TOUCH BASE WITH A FEW OF THEM.

ONE OF 'EM IS, UH, A GRANT THAT WE GAVE AND IT INVOLVED CHILDREN THAT WERE IDENTIFIED AS LEADERS EARLY ON IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, BUT THEY WERE LEADING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.

SO THEY GOT TOGETHER AND BEGAN A PROGRAM TO WORK WITH THOSE CHILDREN AND GET THEM ON A DIFFERENT PATH.

AND THAT HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL AND CONTINUES TODAY.

ANOTHER PROGRAM THAT WE HELPED FUND WAS A SPECIALS NEEDS PROGRAM.

AND THE TEACHER WANTED TO PROVIDE A COURSE FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT IF THEY WERE SUCCESSFUL WITH IT WOULD BE GIVEN A CERTIFICATE THAT WOULD HELP THEM LEG UP WHEN THEY WENT INTO THE JOB MARKET.

WE WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO DO THAT.

WE HAVE ALSO HELPED WITH FIELD TRIPS.

NOW THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF FIELD TRIPS THAT ARE VIRTUAL, BUT SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO BE THERE.

YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE, YOU HAVE TO PUT HANDS ON.

SO WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT.

AND RECENTLY WE FUNDED ONE THAT SUPPORTED THE TRAVEL, THE ADMISSIONS, UM, ALL FOR A SCIENCE PROJECT.

AND WE WERE THRILLED WITH THAT.

AS YOU KNOW, THERE'S MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THAT YOU LEARN AND WE HAVE ALSO SUPPORTED A PROGRAM THAT IS GOING TO TEACH TEACHERS DIFFERENT WAYS TO TEACH READING.

AND AS YOU KNOW, PEOPLE LEARN DIFFERENTLY.

AND IF YOU'RE NOT LEARNING THE WAY MOST PEOPLE LEARN, YOU MIGHT NOT GET IT.

SO THESE TEACHERS ARE BEING TAUGHT DIFFERENT WAYS IN WHICH TO LEARN OR TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO READ.

SO WE WERE HAPPY TO FUND THAT.

WE ALSO WORKED WITH A, A TEACHER THAT, UH, EVALUATED HER GRADE LEVEL AND REALIZED THEY NEEDED HELP IN MATH AND THEY NEEDED SOME HELP IN SCIENCE.

AND AGAIN, TEACHING IT THE REGULAR WAY DIDN'T SEEM TO BE WORKING.

AND SO SHE RECOMMENDED A, A VARIETY OF BOOKS THAT WERE ALMOST LIKE PICTURE BOOKS THAT WOULD EXTEND THESE CHILDREN'S KNOWLEDGE.

ONE OF THEM I I CAN REMEMBER WAS, UM, FOR MATH WAS CIRCUMFERENCE AND HE WAS AT THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE.

WELL, I'M SURE THAT THERE WAS THE NIGHT RADIUS AND THE NIGHT, WHATEVER.

SO I JUST DIFFERENT BOOKS TO HELP THEM BETTER UNDERSTAND.

UM, WE'VE DONE SUCH A VARIETY OF THINGS THAT UM, WE'RE, WE'RE JUST THRILLED TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS AND THE PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD.

ALRIGHT, JOANNE, I THINK YOU'RE UP NEXT.

GOOD EVENING.

AFTER RETIRING AS AN EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATOR, I WAS ABLE TO PURSUE MY PASSION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION BY SERVING ON THE WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD FROM 2004 TO 2012.

IT WAS SUCH AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE TO SERVE THIS COMMUNITY.

ITS EDUCATORS, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ITS STUDENTS.

I WANT TO EXTEND MY THANKS AND MY ADMIRATION FOR THIS SCHOOL BOARD, FOR YOUR DEVOTION TO THE BETTERMENT OF OUR SCHOOL DIVISION AND TO THE EDUCATIONAL GROWTH AND SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS.

IT IS NEVER EASY TO BE AN ELECTED OFFICIAL .

AND IT IS ESPECIALLY CHALLENGING TO BE A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER IN THIS DAY AND AGE.

I KNOW THAT DR.

BALLINGER AND ALL OF YOU ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO IMPROVE OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM FOR OUR STUDENTS IN WARREN COUNTY.

AND I APPLAUD YOUR EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

I WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT

[00:10:01]

YOU WITH THIS CHECK FOR $50,000, WHICH REFLECTS THIS CHECK, REFLECTS THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF GRANT MONIES THAT THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT AWARDED THIS FALL.

AND WE CONGRATULATE ALL OF THE GRANT RECIPIENTS, SOME OF WHOM ARE HERE TONIGHT.

AND WE REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE EVOLUTION OF THE GRANT PROPOSALS THAT THEY PRESENTED TO US.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

SO, ONE SEC.

SO MADAM CHAIR, MADAM CHAIR, IF WE COULD ASK OUR GRANT RECIPIENTS TO PLEASE COME UP SO THAT WE CAN GET A PHOTO AND, UM, I WOULD ASK THAT WOULD THE BOARD MIND TAKING A PHOTO WITH, UM, THE ENDOWMENT AS WELL? I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF PRESENTATIONS THIS EVENING, SO IF EVERYONE, ANYONE WANTS TO LEAVE AFTER YOU'RE FINISHED, THAT'S FINE.

UM,

[2.D. October 2023 Attendance Awards Presentation - Dr. Ballenger]

NEXT UP WE HAVE OCTOBER, 2023 ATTENDANCE AWARDS PRESENTATION IN.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

AND I JUST WANNA SAY THANK YOU AGAIN TO THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT.

UM, I SERVE, UM, ON THE BOARD WITH THEM, UH, NOT AS A VOTING MEMBER, BUT JUST THERE TO, TO, TO HELP AND, AND PROVIDE INPUT AND, AND THINGS WHEN THEY ASK OF ME.

AND SO I, I APPRECIATE THE JOB THAT THEY DO AND, AND SEEING THE PASSION AND THE TIME THAT THEY PUT INTO RAISING FUNDS FOR OUR CLASSROOMS, FOR OUR STUDENTS, UM, AND THE PASSION THAT EACH OF THEM BRING ON A DAILY BASIS IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS THING HAPPEN.

SO IT'S A WONDERFUL GROUP AND I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT THEY'VE DONE.

SO AS WE CONTINUE WITH OUR ATTENDANCE AWARDS, MONTHLY ATTENDANCE AWARDS, WE KNOW THAT, UH, RESEARCH SHOWS THAT MISSING AS LITTLE AS TWO DAYS EVERY MONTH OR 10% OF A SCHOOL YEAR CAN HAVE NEGATIVE IMPACTS ON STUDENTS.

SO AT EACH MONTH WE HAVE BEEN RECOGNIZING OUR SCHOOLS THAT HAVE BEEN AT TIMES VERY COMPETITIVELY, UM, TRYING TO GET THE BEST ATTENDANCE.

AND SO I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THIS MONTH, UH, FOR OUR ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE AWARD.

UM, IT GOES TO AS ROADS.

WE DO.

HELLO.

THANK YOU.

ALRIGHT.

YOU WANNA STAND HERE? .

ALRIGHT.

SO, UM, ONCE AGAIN, WE THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO, UM, ACCEPT THE AWARD FOR ATTENDANCE.

WE COULDN'T DO THIS OBVIOUSLY WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF OUR FAMILIES AND OUR STAFF MEMBERS AND OUR STUDENTS.

UM, I DO WANNA THANK OUR STAFF FOR CREATING FUN CLASSROOMS THAT STUDENTS WANT TO BE IN ON A DAILY BASIS.

AND IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO CHOOSE WHO ARE YOU GOING TO ASK TO COME WITH YOU TO THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TO ACCEPT THE AWARD ON OUR BEHALF.

SO WE HAVE STUDENTS HERE THAT HAVE EITHER PERFECT OR ALMOST PERFECT ATTENDANCE FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR SO FAR.

SO WE HAVE RIKER, YOU WAVE TO THEM, RIKER, AND WE HAVE SAWYER AND CECILIA AND ALL LAURA.

AND THEY WERE EACH GOING TO JUST GIVE YOU A REASON WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE IN SCHOOL EVERY DAY.

SO, SAWYER, WOULD YOU LIKE TO START OFF, WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO COME TO SCHOOL? 'CAUSE YOU HAVE TO LEARN AND YOU HAVE TO LISTEN.

THAT'S A GOOD ONE.

[00:15:01]

GOOD JOB, CECILIA.

MM-HMM, .

GOOD JOB ALL LAURA.

'CAUSE YOU WON A AWARD AND PLAN.

AND RIKER, IF YOU WANT, YOU CAN DO, YOU CAN THINK ABOUT THINGS AND HAVE YOUR OWN OPINIONS.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS A GREAT IDEA.

ALL RIGHT.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN FOR RECOGNIZING US AND HOPEFULLY WE'LL SEE YOU AGAIN THIS YEAR.

AND FOR OUR SECONDARY AWARD WITH THE ATTENDANCE RATE THIS MONTH OF 92.62% THAT GOES TO SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THANK DR.

THANK YOU DR.

BALLINGER AND BOARD MEMBERS.

UM, I WAS SITTING BACK THINKING, UM, THAT WHICHEVER SECONDARY SCHOOL THAT YOU PICK, YOU ALWAYS HAVE A 50% CHANCE OF GETTING A DR. JOHNSTON TO COME UP.

SO, UM, BUT I, WITH ME, I HAVE TRENTON AND PENELOPE, UM, WHO HAVE NEAR PERFECT ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR.

AND THEY ARE EXCELLENT EXAMPLES OF WHY SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL IS SUCH A GREAT PLACE TO BE.

I APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU DO AND THE CHARACTER AND EVERYTHING THAT YOU BRING.

I WILL GIVE YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO SAY ANYTHING IF YOU WANT.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE, WE DID INVITE, UH, MS. ASHLEY FLORENCE, OUR, UM, ATTENDANCE SECRETARY THIS EVENING, BUT SHE HAD A SICK CHILD, SO SHE WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND.

SHE DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB IN JUST KEEPING US AS ADMINISTRATORS UP TO DATE AND INFORMED OF ALL OF OUR ATTENDANCE.

UM, SO I DO WANT TO JUST RECOGNIZE HER AND SAY THANK YOU.

SO THANK YOU AGAIN.

AND FOR OUR MOST IMPROVED THIS MONTH, THEY DID WIN THAT LAST MONTH.

UM, BUT BECAUSE WE STILL ARE HAVING SOME ILLNESSES AND, UM, THEY, THEY HAD THE LEAST AMOUNT OF DECREASE.

SO WE'RE STILL GONNA GIVE THEM THE MOST IMPROVED, UM, BECAUSE OF THEIR EFFORTS TO, TO GET CHILDREN TO SCHOOL.

AND WE WANNA RECOGNIZE RUSSI JEFFREY'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

WELL, I GUESS IF YOU CAN'T BE FIRST SECOND'S OKAY TOO.

RIGHT.

SO LAST, LAST MONTH WHEN WE WON, WE TALKED ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT WE DO ON A DAILY BASIS TO HELP.

AND I THOUGHT TONIGHT, SINCE IT'S AN IMPROVEMENT AWARD, I WOULD SHARE HAVE MS. FRANKEL, OUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR, SHARE WITH YOU THE IMPROVEMENTS THAT WE'RE SEEING FROM 2022 TO 2023 TO REALLY SHOW YOU THE IMPACT THAT WE'RE HAVING ON OUR ATTENDANCE WITH OUR STUDENTS.

GOOD EVENING.

SO, YES, EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T REALLY TECHNICALLY IMPROVE FROM SEPTEMBER TO OCTOBER, WE ARE SEEING HUGE IMPROVEMENTS FROM LAST SCHOOL YEAR AT THIS TIME, THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER TO THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

UM, ALL OF OUR THIRD AND FOURTH GRADERS HAVE 10 OR FEWER ABSENCES.

UM, AND IN THE OTHER GRADES IT'S ONLY ONE OR TWO KIDS EACH GRADE THAT HAS MORE THAN 10 ABSENCES.

UM, OUR FIFTH GRADE HAS THE LOWEST RATE THAT IS ON PACE TO BE CHRONICALLY ABSENT WHERE THEY'VE MISSED SIX OR MORE DAYS.

IT'S ONLY 10 KIDS IN OUR FIFTH GRADE, WHICH IS ONLY 11% OF THE FIFTH GRADE.

UM, OUR SECOND GRADERS, THEY MADE THE BIGGEST JUMP, THE BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT LAST YEAR AS FIRST GRADERS AT THIS TIME, THERE WERE 35% OF THEM WAS SIX OR MORE ABSENCES.

THIS YEAR, ONLY 13% OF THAT SAME GROUP OF KIDS NOW THAT THEY'RE SECOND GRADERS.

SO LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME, WE HAD ABOUT 30% MISSING, SIX OR MORE DAYS.

AND WE KNOW THAT WE ENDED THE YEAR AT JUST A HAIR OVER 25% THIS YEAR.

WE ARE AT 17% OF OUR KIDS AT SIX OR MORE DAYS.

SO WE MIGHT EVEN BE ABLE TO DO EVEN BETTER THAN THAT BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

[00:20:01]

AND, YOU KNOW, WE'RE JUST REALLY WORKING HARD.

WE'VE GOT A NEW DEAN OF STUDENTS WHO IS DOING A LOT OF ATTENDANCE MEETINGS AND FORMING PLANS WITH PARENTS.

UM, MYSELF AND THE OTHER SCHOOL COUNSELOR, MS. CHARLES, WE REALLY TARGET SPECIFIC GROUPS OF STUDENTS.

SO WE'RE JUST THRILLED THAT WE'RE SEEING OUR EFFORTS PAYING OFF AND WE HOPE TO REMAIN ON THIS POSITIVE TREND.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

[2.E. School Reports - Dr. Ballenger]

NEXT UP THIS EVENING WE'RE GONNA HAVE SCHOOL REPORTS.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

AND FOR OUR SCHOOL REPORTS, UH, THIS MONTH, UH, WE WERE SCHEDULED TO HAVE WARREN COUNTY, UH, MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND SO I WILL ASK DR.

CHRIS JOHNSTON IF HE WOULD LIKE TO COME UP AT THIS POINT IN TIME.

AND THEN WE DO HAVE OTHER SCHOOLS HERE THAT WILL BE PRESENTING AS WELL.

GOOD EVENING.

SO I'M HERE WITH MY , MY BACKUP TEAM, .

SO MRS. COOK, OUR PATHWAY AND CONNECTIONS TEACHER, UH, MS. WHITEHEAD, OUR SCHOOL NURSE, AND MS. STERN'S, ONE OF OUR INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS.

SO, UH, I CONTINUE TO BE HONORED AND PRIVILEGED TO SERVE AS THE PRINCIPAL AT WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I LOVE OUR SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY AND ENJOY BEING THERE EVERY DAY.

WHILE THE WORK CAN BE DIFFICULT, I FEEL THAT THE STAFF AT WCMS IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

EVERY DAY OUR STUDENTS MATTER TO US AND WE LOVE BEING WILDCATS.

UH, WE COMPLETED OUR SCHOOL PLAN FOR THE YEAR.

OUR FOCUS IS ON SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT AND ATTENDANCE.

OUR GOALS ARE FOR 75% OF WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PASS THE SCIENCE EIGHT SOL ASSESSMENT.

AND FEWER THAN 15% OF OUR STUDENTS TO BE CHRONICALLY ABSENT FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR.

AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, ALL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE GROWTH ASSESSMENTS.

WE DID FIND, BASED ON THOSE ASSESSMENTS, WE, 41% OF OUR STUDENTS WERE IDENTIFIED AS NEEDING ADDITIONAL SUPPORT WITH PRIOR KNOWLEDGE AND THE FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS FOR NEW CONTENT THAT'S GONNA BE INTRODUCED THIS YEAR.

THAT DOES ALIGN WITH OUR CURRENT STUDENTS SPRING 2023 SOL PASS RATES, IN WHICH 28.5% OF OUR CURRENT STUDENTS DID NOT PASS LAST YEAR'S MATH SOL TEST AND 29% DID NOT PASS LAST YEAR'S READING SOL TEST.

BUT WE WERE WORKING AS A SCHOOL TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE SUPPORTS, INCLUDING INDIVIDUALIZED AND SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION WITH CLASSROOM TEACHERS, OUR READING SPECIALIST DURING ELT TIME, UTILIZING IXL AS A ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING TO OUR TEACHERS ON SETTING AND MAINTAINING HIGH ACADEMIC ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS.

SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION, PERSONALIZED LEARNING AND TEACHING FROM BELL TO BELL.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO THIS WORK MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

RELATED TO SCIENCE, OUR NEW FIRST YEAR SCIENCE TEACHER IS WORKING WITH OUR RETURNING SCIENCE TEACHER, MRS. DAVIS, WHO WAS THE WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR, UH, DAILY TO ALIGN THEIR INSTRUCTION WITH THE SOLS.

THEY INCORPORATE DAILY SOL PRACTICE QUESTIONS, UH, THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH SIXTH AND SEVENTH GRADE SCIENCE STANDARDS THAT WILL BE ASSESSED THIS YEAR.

THEY'RE ALSO INCORPORATING ADDITIONAL GRAPHS AND DATA TABLES IN THEIR DAILY LESSONS AND ASSESSMENTS TO INCREASE STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES TO PRACTICE THOSE TYPES OF QUESTIONS AS A MEASURE OF OUR PROGRESS SO FAR, AFTER THE FIRST QUARTER, 42.9% OF OUR STUDENTS WERE ON THE ALL A OR AB HONOR ROLL.

SO WE HOPE THAT WILL TRANSLATE INTO SUCCESS ON THE SOLS.

THE OTHER AREA OF OUR FOCUS THIS YEAR IS STUDENT ATTENDANCE.

WHILE WE WERE RECOGNIZED IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER FOR WARREN WINNING THE WCPS SECONDARY ATTENDANCE AWARD AWARD, UNFORTUNATELY SKYLINE MIDDLE, JUST EDGES OUT EDGED US OUT THIS MONTH.

BUT COMPARED TO LAST YEAR, OUR AUGUST ATTENDANCE WAS UP 1.85 PERCENTAGE POINTS.

OUR SEPTEMBER ATTENDANCE WAS UP 1.37 PERCENTAGE POINTS AND OUR OCTOBER ATTENDANCE WAS UP 0.56 PERCENTAGE POINTS AT THE END OF OCTOBER.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE FIVE STUDENTS WHO'VE ALREADY BEEN IDENTIFIED AS CHRONICALLY ABSENT FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR.

UH, AND WE HAVE 111 STUDENTS THAT HAVE CURRENTLY MISSED 10% OR MORE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SEVERAL STUDENTS HAVE MISSED A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF DAYS DUE TO SUSPENSION MEDICAL CARE AND OR FAMILY VACA VACATIONS.

UH, AS OF YESTERDAY, WE'VE HAD 30 FAMILIES NOTIFY US OF EXTENDED ABSENCES, TOTALING 198 SCHOOL DAYS.

SO WE'RE HOPING TO, UH, IMPROVE THAT MOVING FORWARD.

UH, TO ADDRESS THIS, WE'RE WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR ATTENDANCE OFFICER.

UH, WE HAVE AN ATTENDANCE COMMITTEE THAT MEETS MONTHLY TO DISCUSS OUR ATTENDANCE NEEDS.

OUR

[00:25:01]

ELECTIVE TEACHERS HAVE SET STUDENT GROWTH GOALS TO SUPPORT STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND WE'RE COMMUNICATE, UH, CONTINUING TO COMMUNICATE WITH FAMILIES ABOUT OUR ATTENDANCE AND ENCOURAGING KIDS THROUGH MONTHLY ATTENDANCE AWARDS AND DRAWINGS.

I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL STUDENTS THAT I'M WORKING WITH PERSONALLY TO PROMOTE AND CELEBRATE POSITIVE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE.

UH, FOR DISCIPLINE.

SO FAR THIS YEAR, WE'VE HAD 145 DISCIPLINE INCIDENTS THAT IS A 65% INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR WHEN WE ONLY HAD 88.

UP TO THIS POINT, ALL OF THESE STUDENTS OR INCIDENTS COME FROM 71 STUDENTS AND 30 OF THOSE HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE INCIDENTS, BUT THAT DOES MEAN 94.3% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE MEETING SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS AND LEARNING FROM THEIR MISTAKES.

THIS DISCIPLINE DATA IS INTERESTING BECAUSE ANECDOTAL DATA FROM THE STAFF SUGGESTS THE STUDENTS SEEM MUCH BETTER BEHAVE.

THIS YEAR OUR TEACHERS ARE REPORTING THAT THEY'RE NOT SEEING THE BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS THEY DEALT WITH IN THE PAST AND LAST WEEK WE HAD GUESTS FROM WARREN COALITION AT THE SCHOOL.

THEY COMMENTED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT HOW WELL BEHAVED OUR STUDENTS, UH, WERE COMPARED TO PREVIOUS TIMES THEY'VE COME TO SCHOOL.

BUT WE'RE CONTINUING TO ADDRESS STUDENT BEHAVIOR.

SO WE HAVE A BEHAVIOR COMMITTEE THAT ALSO MEETS MONTHLY.

UM, I MAKE REGULAR BEHAVIOR REMINDERS TO STUDENTS DURING THE MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS.

UH, IN ADDITION TO ADDRESSING STUDENT BEHAVIORS IN THE CLASSROOM, WE WORK WITH OUR PARENTS AS PARTNERS TO IMPROVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND SINCERELY APPRECIATE OUR PARENTS' SUPPORT.

I INCLUDE DISCIPLINE REMINDERS IN OUR DATA IN OUR PARENT NEWSLETTER TO LET OUR PARENTS KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN SCHOOL.

FINALLY, I DO SEEK OUT STUDENT INPUT RELATED TO SCHOOL OPERATIONS.

I HAVE A-A-P-T-S-O STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE CONSISTING OF TWO STUDENTS FROM EACH TEAM THAT I MEET WITH MONTHLY TO GET STUDENT FEEDBACK ABOUT THE SCHOOL, TO GIVE OUR STUDENTS A VOICE IN THE SCHOOL.

I BELIEVE WE'RE HERE FOR THE KIDS AND THAT WE HAVE GREAT, GREAT KIDS AND I APPRECIATE THEM EVERY DAY.

WE'RE ALSO ADDRESSING OUR ATTENDANCE, OR I'M SORRY, OUR DISCIPLINE THROUGH OUR PBIS ROAR MATRIX.

ROAR STANDS FOR RESPECT.

EVERYONE OWN YOUR ACTIONS, ACT OUT OF KINDNESS AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

WE'RE USING PBIS REWARDS TO AWARD AND TRACK BEHAVIOR POINTS ONLINE.

STUDENTS CAN USE THOSE POINTS TO PARTICIPATE IN WEEKLY PBIS ACTIVITIES DURING ELT TIME.

WE'VE HAD SEVERAL HUNDRED STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THESE ACTIVITIES.

WE'RE ALSO PLANNING A FEW LARGER AFTERSCHOOL ACTIVITIES.

OUR FIRST ACTIVITY, UH, WAS GOING TO BE A-A-W-C-M-S COMBINE.

AND WE HAD A LOT OF INTEREST BUT NEEDED TO RESCHEDULE DUE TO CONFLICTS WITH SPORTS.

UH, WE ALSO HAVE WORK CARDS THAT TEACHERS CAN FILL OUT WHEN STUDENTS ARE CAUGHT BEING GOOD WITH WEEKLY DRAWINGS OR PRIZES, LIKE FREE ENTRY TO A WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTING EVENT, OR A PASS TO CUT IN THE LUNCH LINE FOR A WEEK WITH A FRIEND.

OUR KIDS LOVE THAT ONE.

UH, ALSO TEACHERS RECOGNIZE STUDENTS OF THE MONTH EVERY MONTH, UH, TO FURTHER RECOGNIZE 'EM.

UH, AN UPDATE WITH OUR SPORTS TEAMS. WE DID JUST FINISH OUR FALL SPORTS SEASON.

OUR GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, SEVENTH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FINISHED FOURTH AND THE NORTHERN VALLEY JUNIOR LEAGUE.

AND OUR EIGHTH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FINISHED THIRD AND WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL HOSTED THE NORTHERN VALLEY JUNIOR LEAGUE FINALS ON OCTOBER 18TH.

OUR BIGGEST SUCCESS WAS WITH CROSS COUNTRY.

UH, WE HAVE A STRONG MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY PROGRAM.

OUR TEAM CONSISTENTLY HAD MORE PARTICIPANTS IN THE OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE LEAGUE.

OUR BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PLAYED SECOND IN THE NVJL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND OUR GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM, UH, THEY WERE EXTREMELY STRONG THIS YEAR.

THEY WON NEARLY EVERY MEET IN WHICH THEY PARTICIPATED.

THEY FINISHED SEVERAL TIMES WITH PERFECT SCORES AND THEY WON, UH, FIRST PLACE IN THE N-V-J-H-L CHAMPIONSHIP, UH, AT JOHNSON WILLIAMS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND THEN SOME OTHER THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING AT SCHOOL THIS YEAR.

UH, WE DID HOST A WARREN COALITION, DID A PRESENTATION ON ADOLESCENT VAPING IN SEPTEMBER.

UH, WE HAD A BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE, UH, IN SEPTEMBER THAT WAS ATTENDED BY ABOUT 200 STUDENTS.

AND WE HAVE A FALL DANCE PLAN FOR, UH, LATER THIS MONTH.

UM, LAST WEEK WE HELD OUR COMBINED RED RIBBON WEEK AND KINDNESS WEEK CELEBRATION WITH THE WARREN COALITION.

RED RIBBON WEEK IS THE NATION'S LARGEST AND LONGEST RUNNING DRUG USE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN.

THIS YEAR'S THEME WAS BE KIND TO YOUR MIND LIVE DRUG FREE.

AND ALONG WITH THAT, WE HAD A SPIRIT WEEK, A DOOR DECORATING CONTEST, KINDNESS PUNCH CARDS, AND THE WARREN COALITION CAME AND DID ACTIVITIES WITH THE STUDENTS.

YESTERDAY, WE HELD A HALLOWEEN COSTUME FUNDRAISER, UH, SO STUDENTS COULD WEAR HOLLOW HALLOWEEN COSTUMES.

AND THAT HELPED US TIME OUT THERE THE FIRST TIME EVER.

UM, AND I HAD THEM PAY $2 TO HELP US RAISE MONEY TO PAY FOR, UH, TO HELP US ESTABLISH A NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY AT WARRENTON MIDDLE OR WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

UM, WE'RE CURRENTLY HOLDING A THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE AND WE'RE FINALIZING OUR PLANS TO PARTICIPATE WITH THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION'S AMERICAN HEART CHALLENGE, UH, TO HAVE OUR STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT HANDS-ON CPR.

AND WE'RE GONNA CONCLUDE THAT WITH THE DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT BECAUSE OUR KIDS LOVE DODGEBALL.

UH, WE ARE HOSTING REACHING OUT NOW'S FAMILY NIGHT IN DECEMBER.

WE'RE CONTINUING OUR PLASTIC BAG RECYCLING.

UH, THIS YEAR WE'RE

[00:30:01]

HAVING A 1 MILLION WORD CHALLENGE FOR OUR STUDENTS, UH, TO CHALLENGE STUDENTS TO READ 1 MILLION WORDS.

THIS YEAR, UH, WE'VE ALREADY HAD THREE STUDENTS WHO'VE ALREADY READ 1 MILLION WORDS.

56 STUDENTS ARE ON TRACK.

UH, WE'VE HAD ONE OF OUR TEACHERS READ A MILLION WORDS AND I'M AT 547,000.

I DON'T KNOW HOW I'M GONNA FIND THE TIME.

YEAH.

ADD THIS TOO .

I SHOULD ADD THIS.

UM, AND WE ARE CONTINUING OUR ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK PROGRAM AND THIS YEAR'S BOOK, UH, WILL BE THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF COYOTE SUNRISE.

UH, SO WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

MRS. UH, COOK YEAH.

IS GONNA SHARE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT HER PROGRAM.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME TONIGHT.

UM, MY NAME'S PENNY COOK.

I WORK AT WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I AM THE PATHWAYS AND CONNECTIONS SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER THERE.

UM, THIS IS MY SEVENTH YEAR WITH WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I CO-TAUGHT ENGLISH FOR FOUR YEARS AND LIKE I SAID, THIS IS MY THIRD YEAR IN PATHWAYS AND CONNECTIONS.

UM, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

UM, 15 YEARS IN EDUCATION ALTOGETHER.

I'M FROM PAGE COUNTY.

UM, SO I DRIVE HERE EVERY DAY, WHICH IS WELL WORTH IT.

UM, OUR KID, WE HAVE A GREAT GROUP OF KIDDOS.

WE DO LOTS OF THINGS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY.

UM, WE WORK A LOT ON SOCIAL SKILLS, UM, TEAM BUILDING SKILLS, LIFE SKILLS.

UM, WE PARTICIPATE A LOT WITH WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.

I PLAN THINGS WITH MS. TRUAX AND MS. KELLY BECAUSE OUR KIDS FLOW INTO THEM.

SO WE INTERACT AND DO A LOT OF THINGS TOGETHER.

UM, THIS YEAR SO FAR, WE'VE GONE TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH TOGETHER AND WE DID TEAM BUILDING SKILLS THERE AND WE LEARNED ABOUT PUMPKINS, THE LIFECYCLE OF A PUMPKIN.

HOW MUCH ORDER IS IN THE PUMPKIN? HOW MANY, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT VARIETIES.

THERE'S HUNDREDS OF THEM.

IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE.

UM, I TOOK MY CLASS, WE WENT TO THE WARREN COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR THE FIRE AND SAFETY AND PREVENTION WEEK.

UM, WE'VE HAD A TRIP TO THE GREEN VALLEY BOOK THERE.

THE CHILDREN HAD MONEY TO SPEND FOR A BUDGET, SO THEY REALLY ENJOYED THAT.

UM, IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY, WE ARE THE COMMUNITY HELPERS.

UM, OUR STUDENTS DO A SHREDDING BUSINESS.

WE'RE CALLED, UH, DOCUMENT DESTROYERS.

WE DO, UM, TRASH PICKUP AROUND THE SCHOOL LITTER.

UM, WE WASH LAUNDRY FOR THE SCHOOL, LIKE THE ART TEACHER, HER RAGS AND TABLECLOTHS FOR THE OFFICE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

UM, WE HELP IN THE NURSES STATION DO THE CLOSED CLOSET FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WE TAKE DONATIONS, WE ORGANIZE, HANG THINGS UP, MAKE SURE WE HAVE WHAT WE NEED.

IF NOT, MS. AND I WORK TOGETHER AND MAKE SURE WE GET WHAT WE NEED FOR OUR CHILDREN.

UM, YES, IT'S WONDERFUL.

UM, LIKE I SAID, WE'VE PARTNERED WITH, UM, WEIN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL QUITE A BIT.

UM, WE JUST RECENTLY PARTNERED WITH MS. KELLY.

UM, SHE BRINGS HEALTHY FOOD BOXES TWICE A WEEK OR TWICE A MONTH, UM, ON WEDNESDAYS.

AND WE HELP HER SELL.

SO WE DISTRIBUTE THAT, COLLECT THE MONIES MY KIDS DO, AND COUNT IT AND MAKE SURE IT'S ALL ACCOUNTED FOR AND THEN GET IT READY TO RETURN TO THEM THE NEXT DAY.

IT'S JUST ANOTHER STEP FOR MY CHILDREN TO GET, YOU KNOW, THAT, THAT SKILL.

WE ALSO BAKE EVERY THURSDAY.

WE RUN A COFFEE CART ON FRIDAY MORNINGS WHERE WE SELL A BAKED ITEM, EITHER BROWNIES OR COOKIES OR CUPCAKES.

WE DO HOT COFFEE, UM, WE DO ICED TEA, WE DO HOT TEA, HOT COCOA SODAS.

SO THE KIDS LOVE GOING AROUND THE SCHOOL AND OFFERING 'EM THE SERVICES, YOU KNOW, TO EVERYONE.

UM, BUT MY GROUP OF KIDS ARE WONDERFUL AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE CBI TRIPS WE GET TO TAKE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY.

IT'S JUST WONDERFUL.

AND SPEAKING OF THE WARING COUNTY COALITION, I GOT A WONDERFUL GRANT LAST YEAR FROM THEM TO REVAMP OUR CLASSROOM, WHICH WAS REALLY NEEDED.

SO THAT HAS REALLY HELPED US TREMENDOUSLY THE LAST SCHOOL YEAR AND THIS SCHOOL YEAR, YOU KNOW, TO, TO KEEP THINGS GOING FOR OUR STUDENTS.

UM, I JUST WANTED TO TOUCH BASE ON A COUPLE OTHER GROUPS AND CLUBS AT SCHOOL.

UM, MISS JOE RUTHERFORD IN THE JOURNALISM, UM, HER CLASS AND KIDDOS HAVE BEEN BUSY TAKING PICTURES, WORKING ON THE YEARBOOK ALREADY.

UM, FOR THE YEAR I GOT SOMETHING FROM MS. VAN DERWIN, WHICH IS MS. DEANGELO.

AND SHE JUST RECENTLY STARTED A NEW GROUP IT'S CALLED, OR A CLUB.

IT'S CALLED THE WILDLIFE CLUB.

UM, IT'S NEW AND THE BASIC GOAL IS TO CREATE A FUN, SAFE SPACE FOR KIDS TO BE KIDS AND DO SILLY THINGS.

UM, WE ARE A PARTY WITH A PURPOSE.

WE MEET AT LEAST TWO FRIDAYS OF A MONTH FOR THE MEETINGS.

UM, THEY PLAY LARGE AND SMALL GROUP GAMES, FLORA LA FLORIDA'S, LAVA BALLOONTO,

[00:35:01]

GIANT TIC-TAC TOE, AND SO MANY MORE.

UM, RELAYS.

WE HAVE ABOUT 40 KIDS THAT COME PER WEEK AND ARE ALWAYS OPEN FOR MORE KIDS TO JOIN.

UM, I GOT A REPORT FROM OUR WONDERFUL AGRISCIENCE AND FFA TEACHER, MS. PHILLIPS.

UM, SOME THINGS THEY'VE BEEN DOING GREAT THINGS.

UM, THEY'RE LEARNING ABOUT FOOD, WHERE IT COMES FROM, HOW TO GROW IT.

UM, SMALL ANIMAL CARE.

UM, LEARNING ABOUT SAFETY PROCEDURES IN THE AGRICULTURE MECHANICS LAB.

UM, SHE SAYS THEY'VE HAD A VERY BUSY FALL.

THEY PARTICIPATED IN THE FFA NORTHERN AREA LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP IN SEPTEMBER.

UM, THEY HAD TEAM BUILDING EVENTS AT THE ROYAL FAMILY BOWLING ALLEY.

UM, ON THE 12TH OF OCTOBER, WE HAD 13 STUDENTS FROM OUR SCHOOL ATTEND THE VIRGINIA TECH FFA MIDDLE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE.

YAY.

MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN FIVE DIFFERENT WORKSHOPS.

UM, THEY ALSO PARTNERED WITH SINGLE KNOB MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR, UM, THE VIRGINIA.

THEY PARTNERED WITH THEM AND SHE'S JUST ACKNOWLEDGING THEM AND THANKING THEM FOR THAT.

UM, THEY HOSTED AVERA BRADLEY BINGO FUNDRAISER ON THE 13TH, WHERE BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS AND SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL HELPED PUT THIS ONE TOGETHER TO RAISE MONEY.

UM, THERE'S ALSO COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER TO RAISE MONEY TO TRAVEL FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENTS AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT EVENTS.

OCTOBER 26TH, THEY HAD 13 MEMBERS HELP PICK APPLES AT THE LOCAL FOOD BANK AT WEST OAKS FARM MARKET IN WINCHESTER.

ALONG WITH THE SKYLAND HIGH SCHOOL AND THE WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FFA CHAPTERS.

THEY HELPED TO PICK OVER 500 POUNDS OF APPLES FOR THE FOOD BANK.

UM, THEY'RE GETTING READY FOR AN ADVOCATE FOR AGRICULTURAL LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP IN NOVEMBER.

AND THIS WILL HELP THE STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO TALK TO STATE LEGISLATORS AND INDUSTRY INDUSTRY LEADERS IN JANUARY WHEN WE TRAVELED TO THE STATE CAPITOL AND LEARN ABOUT CIVICS AND OUR STATE GOVERNMENT.

SO THOSE ARE JUST SOME UPDATES FOR SOME GREAT THINGS THAT'S GOING ON IN OUR CLASSROOM.

AND WE JUST WANTED TO GIVE A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO DR. JOHNSTON.

UM, HE'S MADE A GREAT ADDITION TO OUR WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL FAMILY.

HE'S VERY PROACTIVE, INVOLVED IN EVERYTHING, LIKE EVERYTHING THAT GOES ALONG WITH THE KIDDOS.

HE'S THERE.

UM, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT, DR. JOHNSTON.

I REALLY DON'T.

HE'S A GREAT SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR US ALL.

HE'S A GREAT LINE OF COMMUNICATION, OPEN LINES OF COMMUNICATION, AND HE'S A VERY VALUABLE ASSET TO WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL AND THANKFUL TO HAVE THEM AT WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

SO THANKS FOR HAVING US TONIGHT.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU ALL.

THANK YOU DR. JOHNSTON.

UM, I WOULD NOW LIKE TO ASK MS. JENNIFER KNOX WITH E WILSON MORRISON ON THE OTHER SIDE.

YEAH.

GOOD EVENING.

SUPERINTENDENT BALLINGER CHAIRMAN PENCE AND BOARD MEMBERS.

I'M JENNIFER KNOX AND I'M THE PRINCIPAL OF E WILSON MORRISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

I'M HERE TONIGHT TO HIGHLIGHT AN EVENT WE'LL BE HAVING AT E WILSON MORRISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 17TH FROM SIX TO 7:30 PM OUR STUDENTS WILL PERFORM A PLAY TITLED ONCE UPON A FAIRYTALE.

AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, MR. HASSETT, OUR MUSIC TEACHER, APPROACHED ME ABOUT PRODUCING A SCHOOL PLAY.

I THOUGHT IT WAS AN EXCELLENT IDEA AND HE HAS BEEN WORKING HARD EVER SINCE.

WITH AUDITIONS AND PRACTICE, MR. HASSETT GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR OUR STUDENTS BY SPONSORING THE CHORUS CLUB, THE SCIENCE CLUB, AND THE SCHOOL PLAY.

AT THIS TIME, I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO MR. THOMAS HASSETT AND SOME OF OUR STUDENTS.

GOOD EVENING, UH, MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD.

MY NAME IS, UH, THOMAS HASSETT.

I'M THE MUSIC TEACHER AT E WILSON MORRISON ELEMENTARY.

IT'S MY PLEASURE TO SPEAK WITH YOU TONIGHT BRIEFLY ABOUT THE PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM AT OUR SCHOOL.

UH, OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM TO INCLUDE AN AFTERSCHOOL CHORUS, UH, AN ANNUAL TALENT SHOW AND NEW THIS YEAR, UH, A SCHOOL PLAY.

UH, THE PLAY IS CALLED WHAT HAPPENED AFTER ONCE UPON A TIME, AND IT OFFERS A CONTEMPORARY TWIST ON SEVERAL CLASSIC FAIRYTALES.

[00:40:02]

A SUBSTITUTE NARRATOR, CAITLIN ERA, UH, IS PUT ON THE SPOT TO READ THE TALES.

UH, BUT EACH TIME SHE STARTS, THE CHARACTERS COME ON TO INTERRUPT HER AND TELL, TELL THE REAL STORY.

CINDERELLA LOVES TO CLEAN.

RAPUNZEL IS AN INSUFFERABLE DIVA.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD IS A LAWYER DEFENDING THE WOLF AND MORE.

IT HAS BEEN SUCH A JOY TO SEE OUR STUDENTS GROW, UH, AS THEY GOT UP IN FRONT OF THEIR TEACHERS TO AUDITION, UH, DILIGENTLY MEMORIZED LINES AND STUDIED HOW TO DELIVER THOSE LINES.

TO SEE THEM NOW PREPARE TO BE IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE AND CONVINCED THEM THAT THEY ARE THEIR CHARACTERS IS SO IMPRESSIVE.

WE ARE IN OUR FINAL TWO WEEKS, UH, BEFORE THE SHOW ON NOVEMBER 17TH AT 6:00 PM AND THE STUDENTS ARE STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE MORE THAN EVER, UH, TO PUT ON A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE.

UH, BRIEFLY.

LAST YEAR WE INTRODUCED WHAT WILL NOW BECOME AN ANNUAL TALENT SHOW.

UH, STUDENTS PREPARED A SPECIAL TALENT THAT THEY WANTED TO, UH, SHARE AND AUDITIONED FOR A SPOT IN THE SHOW.

WE HAD STUDENTS SING, DANCE, DO CHEERLEADING ROUTINES, TELL JOKES, AND EVEN HULA HOOP.

OVER THE COURSE OF AN INTENSE TWO WEEKS, WE PRACTICED AND PRACTICED AND PRACTICED AND THE STUDENTS SHOWED OFF THEIR AMAZING SKILLS IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE OF WELL OVER 200 PEOPLE.

OUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR, MS. RACHEL DIARMENT, RUNS A LEADERSHIP CLUB TO HELP DEVELOP STUDENT SKILLS IN THAT AREA.

AND SHE COACHED A SMALL STAGE CREW IN SUPPORTING THIS KIND OF PRODUCTION.

THIS INCLUDED OPERATING AN AUDIO MIXER, RESETTING THE STAGE AFTER EACH ACT, PULLING CURTAINS AND ENCOURAGING YOUNGER STUDENTS BATTLING STAGE FRIGHT TO BE THEIR BEST.

IT IS RARE FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO GET EXPERIENCE IN TECHNICAL THEATER AND THEY HAD SO MUCH FUN DOING SO.

WHAT HAS BEEN SO GRATIFYING ABOUT THESE EXPERIENCES FOR THE STUDENTS IS THAT THEY PROVIDE THEM WITH ADDITIONAL AVENUES TO LEARN.

FOR MANY STUDENTS, SCHOOL CAN BE A STRESSFUL PLACE, WHETHER IT IS, WHETHER THEY, WHETHER IT IS BECAUSE THEY STRUGGLE WITH ACADEMICS OR THEY HAVE TROUBLE MAKING FRIENDS, OR THEY SIMPLY CANNOT SIT STILL.

ALL DAY.

EDUCATION IN THE PERFORMING ARTS IS AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT OF ANY SCHOOL 'CAUSE IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR KIDS TO LEARN NEW SKILLS, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, AND EXPLORE THEIR WORLD.

AT THIS TIME, I WOULD LIKE TO BRING UP CAITLIN DERA AND DAYLON CRAIG, TWO STUDENTS WHO TOGETHER, UH, PARTICIPATE IN OUR SCHOOL PLAY TALENT SHOW AND AFTERSCHOOL CHORUS TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH PERFORMING ARTS AT E WILSON.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH YOU TONIGHT.

THE PLAY HAS CHANGED.

MY NO, THE PLAY THE PLAY HAS CHANGED MY SCHOOL LIFE SIGNIFICANTLY.

IT HAS GIVEN ME A CHANCE TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND A NEW THING TO DO AFTER SCHOOL.

I HAVE LOTS OF FUN AT THE PLAY AND I THINK ANYONE CAN BENEFIT FROM IT.

SHY PEOPLE CAN HAVE A CHANCE TO BECOME MORE SOCIAL AND ALSO SOCIAL PEOPLE CAN HAVE A CHANCE TO FIND NEW WAYS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES AND AS WELL MAKE NEW FRIENDS.

HELLO, MY NAME IS CAITLIN, BUT MY CLASSMATES CALL THE KATIE.

YOU MAY OR MAY NOT REMEMBER ME FROM PRESENTING FOR EARLY ACT.

I'M SO GLAD TO BE HERE TODAY.

I'M A STUDENT WHO IS IN BOTH COURSE AND THE PLAY COURSE IS A GREAT AFTERSCHOOL ACTIVITY TO DO FOR FUN AND TO HAVE GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCES.

WE LEARN HOW TO SING AND EVEN SOMETIMES DANCE.

I HAVE ADVANCED IN SINGING EVER SINCE I'VE JOINED THIS ACTIVITY.

I ALSO FOUND NEW FRIENDS.

NOW MOVING ON TO THE PLAY.

THIS IS MY FIRST EVER PLAY EVEN OUT OF SCHOOL SO FAR.

THIS IS A WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL.

I'M LETTING MYSELF SHIFT INTO A WHOLE OTHER PERSONALITY, WHICH PERSONALLY I'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE.

WE HAVE LEARNED HOW TO DO SO MUCH MORE.

AT FIRST I WAS A LITTLE SHY AND QUIET, BUT WITH THE SUPPORT OF MR. HASSETT AND MR. FOSTER'S ENCOURAGEMENT, I BECAME MORE OPEN AND LOUD.

WE ARE NOW ONLY A COUPLE WEEKS UNTIL THE PLAY.

THANK YOU.

I JUST WANNA ADD, I GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO, UH, READ THEIR PLAY WITH THEM TODAY.

AND THIS IS OUR STORYTELLER, RIGHT? AND THIS IS, HE MAKES AN AMAZING JACK THE BEANSTALK CHARACTER.

HE WAS DYNAMITE TODAY.

SO I REALLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME OUT AND SEE THE PLAY AGAIN.

IT'S NOVEMBER 17TH, UM, IN OUR AUDITORIUM AT 6:00 PM BUT WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.

THANK YOU.

GOOD JOB.

AND NEXT WE HAVE, UH, MS. JESS VODKA FROM LFK.

[00:45:17]

WE BROUGHT A WHOLE CREW WITH US.

SO WE STAND BEFORE YOU TODAY WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM AND PRIDE AS WE CELEBRATE LF K'S STAFF SPONSORED AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS.

THESE CLUBS NOT ONLY SERVE AS PLATFORMS FOR SELF-EXPRESSION AND PERSONAL GROWTH, BUT ALSO FOSTER A SENSE OF COMMUNITY COMRADERY AND EXPLORATION AMONG OUR STUDENTS.

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, WE WOULD LIKE TO SHOWCASE LF K'S RUN CLUB BASKETBALL CLUB, BOOK CLUB, BOOK WORM CLUB, KINDNESS CLUB AND ECO CLUB.

HELLO, UH, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND DR.

BALLINGER.

MY NAME IS BERNADETTE WEST.

I'M A THIRD GRADE TEACHER AT LFK AND I'M HERE TO PRESENT THE LFK RUN CLUB IN, I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, BUT I'M HERE IN PLACE OF OTHER PEOPLE.

IT'S SPONSORED BY AKIA WASHINGTON, CHASTITY JENKINS AND RASHAN FELD.

AND I STAND HERE PROUDLY WITH A SECOND YEAR RUN CLUB MEMBER LIAM BALLARD.

HE IS A FOURTH GRADER AND HE'S GONNA TALK ABOUT WHAT HE DOES TO EXCEL IN THE RUN CLUB.

AND I HAD THE PLEASURE OF BEING HIS TEACHER LAST YEAR AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HIM COMPETE AT A HIGHER LEVEL IN THE FUTURE.

I USED TO JOKE WITH HIM LAST YEAR, HE'S A TRUE ATHLETE AND YOU MIGHT JUST WANNA GET HIS AUTOGRAPH TONIGHT BECAUSE HE'S A FUTURE OLYMPIC RUNNER.

SO LIAM, TELL US WHAT YOU DO AND RUN.

DO YOU GET A PUNCH CARD? YOU GET A PUNCH CARD AND EVERY LAP YOU DO, UH, THEY PUNCH YOUR TICKET.

AND DO YOU SET PERSONAL GOALS? YEAH.

OKAY.

WHAT'S YOUR PERSONAL GOAL? I DON'T KNOW.

JUST RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

.

.

HAVE YOU, DO YOU HAVE A REALLY HIGH, UM, ABILITY IN RUNNING AND WHAT DO YOU DO? WHY DO YOU DO RUNNING CLUB? WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT IT? IT'S FUN AND GET TO RUN.

YOU JUST GET TO RUN AND TALK TO FRIENDS.

THAT'S GOOD.

SO YOU FIND COMRADERY WITH SOMEONE ELSE THAT DOES THE SAME THING AS YOU.

YEAH.

THAT'S AWESOME.

OKAY.

COME ON UP MR. SHELL.

I'M GONNA INVITE MR. SHELL UP HERE AS WELL.

OKAY, GO AHEAD.

SO WE STARTED, ME, MRS. WEST STARTED AN ECOLOGY CLUB.

SO OUR ECOLOGY CLUB FOCUSES ON TWO AGE GROUPS OF STUDENTS, KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADE, AND THEN THIRD THROUGH FIFTH GRADE.

WE MEET BIWEEKLY.

BIWEEKLY TO DISCUSS SCIENCE AND STUDY THE EARTH FROM EVERY ANGLE.

STUDENTS ARE SUPPLIED WITH NATURE JOURNALS BY MRS. VACA AND THE STUDENTS ASK FOR THEM WHEN THEY ENTER THE CLUB EVERY DAY.

THE CLUB IS RUN BY ME, MR. SHAM, A FOURTH GRADE TEACHER, MRS. MARSALA, OUR ART TEACHER, MS. FEDIE, OUR FIFTH GRADE TEACHER.

AND MRS. WEST, OUR THIRD GRADE TEACHER.

IN A RECENT MEETING, THE FIFTH GRADERS EXPLORED THE WATER CYCLE.

I RECREATED THE WATER CYCLE BY USING ICE IN UM, JARS AND HOT WATER SO WE COULD WATCH HOW POLLUTION AFFECTED OUR WATER CYCLE.

UM, YES AND PEPPER.

WE ALSO DISCUSSED THE IMPACT OF WATER AND PEOPLE THAT HAVE THEY HAVE ON ANIMALS.

AS THE SNAKE RIVER SALMON STUDENTS WERE ENTHRALLED BY THE STUDY OF WATER AND WANTED MORE INFORMATION ON LANAR FLOW.

SO WE DID AN EXPERIMENT BY PUTTING A PENCIL IN A BAG OF WATER AND PULLED IT OUT TO SEE HOW WE COULD TRY TO CREATE LEMONY FLOW FOR OURSELVES.

MRS. BAR MARSALA HAS BEEN WORKING, UH, ON A WORLD ART PROJECT WITH SOME OF OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE HERE TODAY.

AND IT DEPICTS THE COLORED GLOBE AND THE EARTH RELATED MEDIA OF DIFFERENT TYPES TO SHOW THAT WE ALL HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEW OF WHAT ECOLOGY MEANS TO US.

AND WE HAVE A LITTLE GIFT FOR EACH OF YOU FROM OUR, OUR CLUB IF THEY'D LIKE TO PASS THOSE OUT.

WE'RE HOPING TO EXPAND OUR CLUB TO INCLUDE AN OUTDOOR EXPLORATION CENTER OR CLASSROOM IN THE COMING YEARS TO INCLUDE POLLINATOR PLANTS AND SEED TO SALADS GARDEN AT OUR SCHOOL.

AND WE KNOW THAT IF STUDENTS HAVE HANDS-ON SCIENCE AND ECOLOGY EXPERIENCES NOW THEY'RE MORE LIKELY TO REMAIN INTERESTED IN AND ENGAGED IN SIMILAR ACTIVITIES AS THEY ENTER MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL.

MY CURRENT INQUIRY FOR MY MASTER'S DEGREE IS OUTDOOR LEARNING AND BOTH GROUPS ENJOYED BEING AN EXTENSION OF THAT WITH OUR HONEYBEE LESSON AND HONEY TASTING ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS THE SCAVENGER HUNTS, WHICH LED TO OTHER THINGS THAT WE TASTED RIGHT.

MR. BASS , THEY FOUND AMAZING SIGNS OF NATURE USING A ONE WINDOW OF WONDER PICTURE FRAME PLACED ON THE GROUND.

AND

[00:50:01]

THEY LOOKED AT A VARIETY OF LIVING AND NON-LIVING ANIMALS AND THINGS THAT I'M SURE THEY WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU MORE ABOUT.

SO WE HAVE SEVERAL REPRESENTATIVES FROM DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS WHO WOULD LIKE TO SHARE? FIRST IS MISS ELLIE BRICKS.

I THINK MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT ECO CLUB IS THE SCAVENGER HUNT.

WE HAD A LITTLE PAPER AND WE HAD TO CHECK OFF STUFF THAT WE FOUND OUTDOORS.

SOME OF THE STUFF WE HAD TO FIND WERE SQUIRRELS, LEAVES, BIRDS, SNAILS, WORMS, CATERPILLARS, BRANCHES, JUST ROCKS AND PUDDLES.

OKAY.

AND THEN AVERY BASS, I'M SURE .

DURING THE SCAVENGER HUNT I ATE A CRICKET TWO CRICKETS.

IT WAS, NO, THAT WAS THE SECOND CRICKET I ATE.

I ATE ANOTHER ONE AT HOME.

AND UM, WHAT ELSE DID WE DO? WE TASTED HONEY.

IT WAS PRETTY GOOD.

DID WE FIND ANY INTERESTING THINGS OUTSIDE THAT WERE NO LONGER LIVING? WE FOUND GEESE POOP.

LET'S SEE.

OH YEAH.

AND WE FOUND A DEAD SNAKE.

WE, IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING.

HE IS THE ONE THAT STARTED OUR IDEA OF LAMINAR FLOW.

HE WANTED TO KNOW A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT IT.

SO WITHIN THAT DAY WE WENT AND WENT AFTER THAT INQUIRY AND SAID, OKAY, LET'S TEST THIS SIRI RIGHT NOW.

LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

UM, SO AVERY ALWAYS HAS A GREAT, ALL LOTS OF GREAT IDEAS WHILE WE'RE IN THE MOMENT LEARNING.

AND IT MAKES IT REALLY EXCITING FOR THE REST OF THE KIDS TOO.

ANYBODY ELSE WANTED TO OH YEAH, HOLD ON.

I HAVE ONE MORE THING.

THE GEESE POOPS LOOKS LIKE INTESTINES AND EMMA'S GREEN .

SO WE'LL HAVE KINDNESS CLUB NOW WE'LL HAVE CADENCE.

TALK ABOUT KINDNESS CLUB.

NO, NO, NO.

KELLY.

KELLY PART OF .

SO KINDNESS CLUB AT LFK IS ALSO PART OF THE EARLY ACT CLUB.

WE JUST KIND OF COMBINED THEM BECAUSE WE ARE A KIND OF CERTIFIED SCHOOL AS WELL.

UM, AND SO WE DO SOME THINGS THAT ARE SERVICE ORIENTED.

UH, WE, IN OUR FIRST MEETING WE DID, UM, FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS FOR OUR SISTER SCHOOL E WILSON MORRISON.

AND WE GAVE THOSE FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS TO THE MEMBERS OF THEIR EARLY AG CLUB.

AND THEN WE JUST DID, UM, SOTO WHERE WE COLLECTED SOCKS FOR THE THERMAL SHELTER AND WE WROTE NOTES TO PUT INSIDE THE SOCKS SO THEY WOULD NOT ONLY GET A NICE PAIR OF SOCKS, BUT THEY WOULD ALSO GET A KIND NOTE.

AND THEN WE MADE VETERANS DAY CRAFTS.

SO THESE GUYS ARE ALL PART OF THE KINDNESS CLUB CADENCE AND EVELYN AND OLIVIA AND CONNOR AND AVERY.

UM, WE HAVE OVER 72 MEMBERS K TO FIVE.

AND IT TAKES A LOT OF US AND I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP THAT WE GET.

UM, DO YOU GUYS WANNA SHARE ANYTHING ABOUT WHY YOU LIKE KINDNESS CLUB? OKAY, GO AHEAD.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT KINDNESS CLUB IS THAT YOU CAN LEARN NEW THINGS AND YOU LIKE, AND IT'S REALLY FUN THAT YOU GET TO LEARN NEW THINGS AND YOU GET TO BE KIND TO OTHER PEOPLE.

AWESOME.

OKAY.

DO YOU WANT SOME HELP? OKAY.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT KINDNESS CLUB? WE, WE MADE, UM, THINGS FOR THE, THE VETERANS.

ALRIGHT.

OKAY.

OLIVIA .

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT KINDNESS CO IS THAT YOU DO NICE THINGS FOR OTHER PEOPLE.

YOU, WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT KINDNESS? DO YOU, I KNOW YOU NOT REALLY.

KIND OF THOUGH.

THAT WAS AN ECO CLUB.

WE COLORED A PICTURE FOR THE VETERANS AND WE MADE BRACELETS FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN KINDNESS CLUB AND UM, UM, STAFF MEMBERS AT ANOTHER SCHOOL.

UM, I THINK AND UM, YEAH, WE, WE UM, WE FIRST OCTOBER WE MADE LETTERS AND PICTURES FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WERE GETTING THE SOCKS.

I DON'T HAVE ANY.

ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANYTHING ELSE? THANK YOU.

HELLO, I'M CALLIE SHELAN.

I AM ONE OF THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS AT LFK.

[00:55:01]

UM, I'M HERE REPRESENTING THE BOOKWORM CLUB AND WE ARE GEARED TOWARDS THE K THROUGH TWO STUDENTS.

WE HAVE ABOUT 30 STUDENTS IN OUR CLUB.

UNFORTUNATELY, MY REPS WERE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND TONIGHT, SO IT'S JUST ME.

I DON'T HAVE MY CUTE, THE CUTE LITTLE KIDDOS AROUND ME.

BUT, UM, I DID BRING A COUPLE OF THE BOOKS THAT WE, UM, THAT WE READ.

I DON'T HAVE ALL OF THEM 'CAUSE I DID BORROW SOME, BUT OUR, OUR CLUB IS DESIGNED, WE READ STORIES, UM, WE HAVE A CRAFT THAT GOES ALONG WITH WHATEVER THEME WE'RE WORKING ON AND WE DO A SNACK, WHICH IS ALWAYS, YOU KNOW, ENTICING FOR TO GET THEM TO OUR CLUB.

RIGHT.

UM, SO OUR FIRST MEETING WE DID ALL ABOUT WORMS. SO WE READ A DIARY OF A WORM WAS OUR VERY FIRST BOOK THAT WE READ.

UM, AND WE GOT TO MAKE, OF COURSE THE CLASSIC, UM, WORM DIRT PUDDING WAS OUR SNACK THAT DAY.

UM, WE'VE DONE, UM, LEAVES.

WE'VE DONE, UM, A WHOLE LEAF DAY.

UM, WE READ LEAF MAN, UH, THE VERY LAST LEAF, WHICH WAS A GREAT, A BIG HIT ON THAT BOOK.

AND WE DID A PUMPKIN THEMED ACTIVITY AS WELL.

SO WE'VE DONE, WE'VE GOT A COUPLE MORE CLUBS, UM, CLUB MEETINGS TO GO.

UM, THE KIDS REALLY ENJOY IT AND WE LOVE HAVING THEM.

HELLO, MY NAME IS BRITTANY FOX.

I'M A THIRD GRADE TEACHER AT LFK.

UM, ME AND MS. WARNER DO BOOK CLUB FOR GRADES THREE THROUGH FIVE.

SO WE HAVE BEEN DOING IT TWO YEARS NOW AND WE'RE TRYING TO CONTINUE A LOVE FOR LEARNING IN THE KIDS.

'CAUSE AS THEY GET OLDER THEY TEND TO FALL AWAY FROM THE BOOK.

SO WE'RE TRYING TO COMBAT THAT.

UM, SO WE DO A BOOK READING AND THEN WE DO A CRAFT AS WELL.

UM, AND THEN WE JUST HANG OUT, TALK ABOUT BOOKS.

IT'S, UM, A LOT OF FUN.

SO I BROUGHT CHRIS WITH ME AND HE'S A FIFTH GRADER.

HE IS, UM, HAS BEEN IN OUR CLUB FOR TWO YEARS NOW.

AND WHAT, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO I LIKE THE BOOK OF THE STRANGER.

UM, I AND THE BOOK HE'S TALKING ABOUT, I'LL HELP SINCE HE'S THINKING, UH, THE STRANGER.

BUT DAN BERG IS THE STRANGER IS AUTUMN.

SO, UH, WE DID A FALL WITH THAT SO THAT, ANYTHING PLEASE.

OKAY.

.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

OUR NEXT, UM, REPORT COMES FROM WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.

AND MR. KI DIDN'T KNOW I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE.

YEAH, YEAH, I THOUGHT SO.

OKAY, SO I QUESTION.

SO, SO I'M SORRY.

I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL WAS HERE AS WELL.

SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME UP AND YES, PLEASE.

, YOU READY? HELLO.

GOOD EVENING.

LET ME SEE.

OKAY, WE HAVE A PRESENTATION FOR YOU GUYS TONIGHT.

SO ONE HALF OF YOU GUYS WANNA COME OVER HERE.

SOME OF YOU GUYS WANNA COME ON THIS SIDE.

THERE WE GO.

PERFECT.

UH, MY NAME IS SARAH GRIFFITH.

I'M AT KELLIN HIGH SCHOOL AND I TEACH COMMUNITY-BASED INSTRUCTION AND EDUCATION FOR EMPLOYMENT.

AND THIS IS PROBABLY ONE QUARTER OF MY TOTAL STUDENTS.

UM, I APPRECIATE THEM COMING.

I KNOW THEY'RE KIND OF SLEEPY .

UM, BUT WE'RE GONNA LOOK AT SOME PICTURES AND TALK ABOUT SOME THINGS AND THEY'RE GONNA ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS FOR US.

AND HOLD ON.

I'M PUTTING THIS UP, JESSE IN.

IT'S NOT WORKING THIS FIRE.

HOLD ON.

I'VE GOTTA GET MY TECHNOLOGY TO WORK.

MAYBE.

THERE WE GO.

ALL RIGHT.

COMMUNITY-BASED

[01:00:01]

INSTRUCTION IS AN EVIDENCE, EVIDENCE-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE THAT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO PRACTICE, UH, FUNCTIONAL SKILLS IN THE REAL WORLD.

SO I THINK WE'RE WORKING NO, MAYBE SOMEBODY'S STANDING AWAY.

THANK YOU.

NO, IT'S OKAY.

HE'S GOT ME BACK THERE.

UM, SO SOME OF THE THINGS WE DO IN THIS PROGRAM IS WORK.

WE FOCUS ON WORKPLACE READINESS SKILLS.

UM, THESE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN JOBS ALL THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

WE HAVE SEVERAL BUSINESSES THAT PARTNER WITH US.

UM, AND THEY GO OUT IN THE COMMUNITY DAILY AND THEY WORK ON DIFFERENT JOBS.

UM, AND THEY GET EVALUATIONS ON THOSE JOBS.

UM, THEY PRACTICE ORDERING FOOD, THEY GO AND DO TOURS OF LOCAL BUSINESSES.

AND THEN WE TALK TO VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS THAT TRAIN FOR THOSE BUSINESSES AND WE TOUR THOSE COLLEGES AND THOSE CENTERS AS WELL.

UM, AND I'M NOT GONNA READ YOU EVERYTHING 'CAUSE WE'VE BEEN HERE A WHILE.

.

YOU AGREE.

UM, WE RECENTLY WENT TO WEST OAK FARM AND UM, KIND OF DIFFERENT FROM SOME OF THE OTHER PROGRAMS. WE ACTUALLY HAD A, UH, TALK ABOUT A AGRITOURISM, UM, IN THEIR BUSINESS AND HOW THEIR BUSINESS GOT STARTED.

UM, AND WE TALKED ABOUT ALL THE DIFFERENT JOBS THEY HAVE THERE AND THE FACT THAT THEY ACTUALLY HIRE STUDENTS IN THE SUMMER.

SO THAT'S WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT WHEN WE WENT THERE.

AND OF COURSE WE DID SOME FUN THINGS TOO, RIGHT? GUYS? , UM, THESE ARE SOME OF OUR BUSINESSES THAT WE HAVE AT SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL.

UM, WE HAVE A SOUP AND SALAD BUSINESS.

JAMES? YEP.

YOU COULD.

IS THAT YOU, JAMES? YEAH.

OH, JAMES IS RECYCLING UP HERE.

WE DO THE RECYCLING FOR THE SCHOOL.

UM, WE SERVE SOUP AND SALAD TO TEACHERS ONCE A WEEK.

YEP.

THE TEACHERS AND THE STUDENTS DELIVER THOSE.

THE TEACHERS ORDER THROUGH A GOOGLE FORM.

AND THIS ALLOWS US TO FUND OUR OWN PROGRAMS, UM, PARTIALLY SO THAT PARENTS DON'T HAVE TO SEND IN MONEY EVERY TIME WE'RE GOING SOMEWHERE.

UM, THESE GUYS MAKE THE MONEY AND PAY FOR THESE THINGS THEMSELVES.

UM, SO IT'S A REALLY GOOD BUSINESS MODEL.

UM, .

UM, THEN WE HAVE SOME OF THE DIFFERENT THINGS.

AND THIS, THIS PROGRAM HELPS TO TEACH STUDENTS TO ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELF.

UM, GIVES THEM REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE AND IT ALSO GIVES THEM REFERENCES.

SO WHEN THEY GO AND APPLY FOR JOBS, I CAN GIVE THEM A REFERENCE.

UM, SOME OF THE LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS CAN GIVE THEM REFERENCES.

SO IT REALLY HELPS THEM GET, UM, KIND OF A FOOT UP IN THE GAME FOR THESE GUYS.

'CAUSE SOMETIMES IT'S HARDER FOR THEM TO GET JOBS.

UM, AND THE FOUR DOMAINS OF COMMUNITY-BASED INSTRUCTION INCLUDE DOMESTIC, VOCATIONAL COMMUNITY AND THEN RECREATION AND LEISURE.

AND YOU MIGHT THINK THAT SOME OF THESE ARE KIND OF LIKE, WHY ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT RECREATIONAL LEISURE? BUT THE STATE ACTUALLY HAS OBJECTIVES FOR THOSE, UM, CATEGORIES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

SO THOSE ARE REALLY IMPORTANT.

YEAH.

WE WENT TO THE FARM AND WE AND THE KIDS LEARN ABOUT HOW TO ACCESS THESE THINGS.

THEY LEARN ABOUT HOW TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, HOW TO ACCESS TRANSPORTATION, MAYBE THROUGH SOME OF THE, UM, OUTSIDE PROVIDERS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN THE COMMUNITY, RIGHT? AND THEY LEARN HOW TO MANEUVER THOSE THINGS.

UM, THERE'S JUST DOMESTIC.

WE CAN GO THROUGH THAT ONE.

HERE'S SOME MORE OF OUR ACTIVITIES.

THIS IS SHOPPING OUT IN THE COMMUNITY FOR OUR STUDENT BUSINESSES.

SO NOT ONLY DO THE STUDENTS HELP PLAN THE MENU AND UH, THEY ALSO SHOP FOR ALL THE INGREDIENTS THEMSELVES AND THEY HAVE TO COMPARE PRICES IN THE STORE, WHICH IS REALLY GOOD BECAUSE WHEN THEY LEARN HOW TO MANAGE THEIR OWN MONEY AS ADULTS, THEY'RE GONNA HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO DO THAT.

UM, SO WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME AT MARTIN'S AND ALDI, DOING THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

AND THEN WE HAVE, OH, DOMESTIC ACTIVITIES.

SO PICK OF THE LITTER IS A PLACE WE VOLUNTEER AT A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK.

WE PUT THEIR THINGS OUT ON THE FLOOR, WE CLEAN THEM, WE PRICE THEM.

UM, THAT'S JUST LIKE A RETAIL JOB FOR THE KIDS.

UM, THEY REALLY ENJOY THAT OPPORTUNITY AS WELL.

UM, THEY ALSO GET A LOT OF VOCATIONAL SKILLS FROM THIS PROGRAM.

UM, AND A LOT OF SOFT SKILLS THAT YOU WOULD THINK MAYBE SOME PEOPLE WOULD KNOW, BUT PEOPLE DON'T REALLY KNOW THEM.

SO THEY HAVE TO LEARN, LIKE TO LOOK AT SOMEONE'S EYES WHEN THEY'RE TALKING TO THEM OR TO LOOK AT THEIR FOREHEAD, UM, TO SHAKE THEIR HAND WHEN THEY COME IN.

OR MAYBE NOT BECAUSE OF COVID, BUT JUST ALL THOSE LITTLE FORMALITIES OF WHEN YOU GO ON A JOB INTERVIEW OR WHEN YOU'RE WORKING AT A JOB.

LIKE HOW TO MANAGE YOURSELF AND REGULATE YOURSELF THERE.

UM, WHAT DO WE HAVE? OH, WE, WE HAVE A COUNTY CAR THAT'S PARKED AT OUR SCHOOL THAT WE USE FOR OUR PROGRAM.

THE STUDENTS CHECK THE OIL ON THAT JUST SO THEY KNOW HOW TO CHECK THE OIL AND THE TIRE PRESSURE ON THEIR OWN CAR.

UM, WE ALSO WASH OUR OWN COUNTY CAR.

VACUUM IT, KEEP IT NICE AND CLEAN.

UM, OH, THIS IS OUR COFFEE SHOP.

SO EVERYONE HERE HAS A JOB AT COFFEE SHOP.

ZACH, WHAT'S YOUR JOB? HALF.

HE DOES HALF AND HALF.

THAT'S HIS JOB.

WHAT ABOUT YOU JORDAN? I DO THE YOU WANNA COME OVER? WHAT DO YOU DO AT COFFEE SHOP? I DO THE

[01:05:01]

THE MEASURING? YEP.

MEASURING THE FLAVORED CREAMERS.

THAT'S AN IMPORTANT ONE.

WHAT ABOUT YOU HAYDEN? WHAT DO YOU DO? DO YOU WANNA I RUN A DELIVERY.

DELIVERY.

HE RUNS A DELIVERY CART.

WHAT ABOUT YOU, JAMES? DELIVERY.

DELIVERY.

HOW ABOUT YOU SARAH? WHAT'S YOUR JOB AT COFFEE WHIPPED CREAM AND DRIZZLE.

? YEAH.

YEAH.

HOW ABOUT YOU SADIE? I ALSO HAVE IN THE HOT, HOT COOK.

DO IT.

WHAT DO YOU DO MIKAYLA? DID YOU DO CREAM? CREAM? CREAM DELIVERY.

MIKAYLA DOES DELIVERY, RIGHT? YEAH.

YOU WANNA SAY SOMETHING ELSE? YEAH.

WHAT ELSE? SALAD.

SALAD? YEP.

WE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT SALAD.

WE'RE GONNA MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE.

OKAY.

THIS IS OUR ORIGINAL COFFEE SHOP GROUP.

SO WE DID A LOT OF RESEARCH BEFORE WE STARTED OUR COFFEE SHOP AND WE ALL, WE LIKE TO VISIT LOCAL COFFEE SHOPS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM IN ACTION SO WE CAN GET IDEAS AND THE KIDS CAN TAKE 'EM BACK AND AND TRY THEM OUT.

OH, AND THEN WE HAVE BACKPACKS.

WE ALSO RUN THE SKYLINE, UM, BACKPACK PROGRAM.

SO PEOPLE WILL DONATE THE THINGS TO THE BACKPACK PROGRAM AND TO OUR CLOSED CLOSET.

AND THESE GUYS ORGANIZE THEM, GET THEM ALREADY PACKAGED UP, AND THEN WE DELIVER 'EM TO STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING ON FRIDAYS.

UM, THAT'S LIKE A SIMULATED RETAIL EXPERIENCE INTO GOOD, GOOD SKILL.

YEAH.

OH YEAH.

THERE'S US AT THE CAR WASH .

UM, SO, SO ALL THESE PROGRAMS ARE PART OF A TRANSITION PROGRAM.

SO SOME OF OUR STUDENTS ARE ACTUALLY OVER 18 YEARS OLD AND THEY'RE COMING TO US TO GET SKILLS THAT THEY CAN TAKE AND USE IN THE COMMUNITY WHEN THEY'RE ADULTS.

WE WORK VERY CLOSELY WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF AGING AND REHAB.

THEY COME IN ONCE A MONTH AND THEY DO A WORKSHOP WITH THESE KIDS CALLED PREPARING FOR EMPLOYMENT.

UM, WE'RE ALSO WORKING WITH ACCESS INDEPENDENCE TO GET THEM TO COME IN AND DO A MONTHLY WORKSHOP WITH US AS WELL, SO THAT THESE GUYS KNOW HOW TO MANEUVER THEIR OWN SERVICES TO HELP THEIR PARENTS WHEN THEY, UM, GO OUT ON THEIR OWN OR STAY AT HOME.

BUT WHEN THEY'RE 22 OR OVER.

OH, THESE ARE SOME OF OUR TOURS.

SO WE HAVE VISITED, UM, RECENTLY WE WENT TO PETCO AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE GROOMING BUSINESS THEY HAVE THERE AND WORKING AT PETCO.

'CAUSE A LOT OF US LIKE PETS AND WILSON WORKFORCE IN FISHERSVILLE HAS A TRAINING, UH, PROGRAM FOR VET TECHS.

SO WE TALKED ABOUT THAT.

WE ALSO WENT TO ROY, I THINK IT MIGHT NOT BE CALLED ROYAL BLENDS ANYMORE, BUT WE WENT THERE AND WE LOOKED AT THEIR BUSINESS AND HOW THAT BUSINESS OPERATES AND HOW THEY STARTED.

UM, SO WE DID THAT RECENTLY.

I MEAN, THIS IS JUST A LITTLE BLURB ABOUT COMMUNITY-BASED INSTRUCTION AND WORK-BASED LEARNING.

SO WE DO HAVE AN ADDITIONAL WORK-BASED LEARNING COACH IN THE COUNTY THAT WORKS AT THE, UM, VO-TECH CENTER.

UM, BUT WE ALSO HAVE A LOT OF WORK-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES WITHIN OUR PROGRAM.

UM, AND THAT JUST ALLOWS STUDENTS TO GET THE MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE THEY NEED TO ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO GET JOBS WHEN THEY GRADUATE.

OH, THERE WE ARE AT TROPICAL SMOOTHIE TALKING ABOUT JOBS THEY OFFER AT TROPICAL SMOOTHIE.

RIGHT GUYS? YEAH.

WE TRY TO TOUR OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK.

YOU LOVE TROPICAL SMOOTHIE? YEAH, IT'S GOOD.

ALL RIGHT.

RECREATION AND LEISURE.

WE TOUCHED ON THAT A LITTLE BIT.

UM, SOME OF, SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT ABOUT RECREATION AND LEISURE.

I WOULD SAY THE MAIN ONE IS ADVOCATING FOR YOURSELF.

SO I TEACH THESE GUYS YES, YES.

ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF.

RIGHT.

MEANS SPEAKING UP FOR YOURSELF.

YEAH.

YEAH.

AND TELLING PEOPLE WHAT YOU WANT AND WHAT YOU NEED.

YEAH.

UM, THE MORE TIME WE SPEND IN THE COMMUNITY, THIS IS THE IDEA BEHIND OUR PROGRAM.

THE MORE TIME WE SPEND IN THE COMMUNITY, THE MORE BUSINESSES AND INDIVIDUALS WILL ACCEPT THOSE WITH DIFFERING ABILITIES AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO INCLUDE THEM.

BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES WE TALK TO BUSINESSES LIKE I RECENTLY TALKED WITH FAMILY PHARMACY AND THEY'RE GONNA LET US BRING SOME STUDENTS IN FOR SOME STOCKING OF THEIR SHELVES, LIKE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THEIR, UM, CONTROLLED AREA IS HOW DO WE FIT THESE STUDENTS INTO OUR BUSINESS? HOW DO WE WORK WITH THEM? AND SO THAT'S PART OF WHAT I DO OUT IN THE COMMUNITY, IS TEACH THE BUSINESSES HOW TO WORK WITH THE KIDS.

SO LET'S SAY EVAN GRADUATES AND HE GOES THERE AND APPLIES FOR A JOB, THEY CAN SAY, OH, WE WOULD HIRE EVAN.

'CAUSE WE KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH HIM.

RIGHT.

, WE'RE GOOD RIGHT NOW.

I'M TIRED.

I KNOW YOU'RE ALL TIRED.

I KNOW.

THESE ARE SOME, THESE ARE SOME JOBS WE DO AROUND THE BUILDING.

I APPRECIATE YOU EVEN IF YOU'RE

[01:10:01]

TIRED.

YEP.

AND THESE ARE JUST SOME, UH, THE BUSINESSES THAT WE'VE WORKED WITH AND THINGS.

AND NOW I'M GONNA ASK EACH ONE OF YOU GUYS TO COME OVER HERE TO THE MICROPHONE AND TELL ME WHAT YOUR FAVORITE JOB IS THAT YOU'VE DONE.

OKAY.

I LIKE COFFEE SHOP.

YOU LIKE COFFEE SHOP? OKAY.

HOLD ON.

LET'S COME TO THE MICROPHONE SO YOU CAN EACH HAVE A TURN.

YOU CAN GO.

GO AHEAD EVAN.

NO.

YOU WANNA GO SARAH? NOBODY WILL GO.

HOW ABOUT YOU SADIE? SADIE WILL GO.

SADIE WILL GO TELL 'EM YOUR FAVORITE JOB.

SADIE.

I LIKE BOTH JOBS.

I DO NOT PUT BOTH.

I MEAN, ONE OF THEM.

I LOVE BOTH OF THEM BECAUSE IT'S, SORRY.

UM, BECAUSE I REALLY, REALLY LOVE IT AND I LOVE THE JOBS THAT MR. IS DOING.

THANK YOU, .

ALRIGHT, WHO ELSE WANTS TO GO? DO YOU WANNA TELL US? SARAH, YOU WANNA TELL US? JAMES, COME TELL US YOUR, COME TELL US YOUR FAVORITE JOB.

OKAY.

STAND BACK FROM HERE LIKE THIS FAR.

AND TELL US.

COME ON.

WORKING IN MY SCHOOL.

YOU LIKE WORKING AT YOUR SCHOOL? YEAH.

OH MAN.

YOU'RE GOOD AT IT TOO.

.

ALRIGHT.

YOU WANNA TELL US, JORDAN, TELL US WHAT YOUR FAVORITE JOB IS.

MY FAVORITE JOB IS SOUP.

SOUP.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT SOUP? KONS AND CHEESE.

[2.F. Business Partner Recognition - Mr. Gardner]

MR. KSH IN WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.

I WAS JUST TELLING MR. GARDNER EARLIER TODAY THAT USUALLY WE'RE THE ONLY ONES UP HERE, SO HE'LL BE DONE BY SEVEN 30.

SO I APOLOGIZE MR. GARDNER.

ANYWAY, UH, THIS MONTH, UH, WE WANT TO FOCUS OUR SPOTLIGHT ON, UH, ONE AMAZING ORGANIZATION THAT MR. GARDNER, OUR CURRENT TEACHER OF THE YEAR, HAS DEVELOPED IN THE SHORT TIME THAT HE'S BEEN WITH US.

OUR DACA PROGRAM IS WELL KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE STATE AND HAS COMPETED AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL.

SO I'M GONNA TURN IT OVER TO HIM AND HIS CREW.

UH, YOU HAVE TO BE AT, AT THE HIGH SCHOOL THAT THEY, THEY APPRECIATE THE INSIDE JOKE ON THAT ONE.

UM, ANYWAY, THE, UH, BACK IN MAY AT GRADUATION, WE, WE HAD BETWEEN 16 AND 19 SENIORS THAT GRADUATED THAT WERE A GOOD SOLID CORE GROUP THAT I'D HAD FOR FOUR YEARS.

AND THEY WERE THE ONES THAT TOOK WHAT THE, THEIR PREDECESSORS HAD DONE AND HAD REALLY LOST US INTO THE NATIONAL LIMELIGHT BECAUSE TWO YEARS AGO, WE TOOK 22 STUDENTS TO ATLANTA.

THIS PAST YEAR TO OUR, TO OUR NATIONAL CONFERENCE.

THIS PAST YEAR, WE TOOK 14 TO ORLANDO TO COMPETE AT THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE.

AND SO SOMEBODY WAS ASKING ME ABOUT A WEEK, ABOUT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, I SAID, WELL, YOU LOST ALL THOSE SENIORS.

I GUESS YOU'RE GOING TO, UH, DECKER'S REBUILDING.

I SAID, NO, WE'RE NOT REBUILDING.

NO, NO.

WE'RE RELOADING.

YOU'RE GONNA SEE THEM.

YOU'RE GONNA HEAR IN A MINUTE AND YOU'LL AGREE WITH ME.

THAT RE RELOADING WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MY TWO OFFICERS, TWO OF MY OFFICERS THAT ARE HERE TONIGHT, EVERYBODY ELSE YOU'RE GONNA BE HEARING FROM IS A FIRST YEAR DECA MEMBER.

SO, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, I'M GONNA TURN IT OVER TO MY CHAPTER PRESIDENT, MS. SOPHIA LOGAN.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, MR. GARDNER.

UM, GOOD EVENING, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND DR.

BALLINGER.

UM, WE'RE SO HAPPY TO BE HERE TONIGHT.

IT'S MY PLEASURE TO INTRODUCE TO YOU SOME OF THE AMAZING

[01:15:01]

MEMBERS OF OUR CHAPTER, REPRESENTING THE REST OF OUR CHAPTER LEADERSHIP TEAM.

TODAY IS AYANA VATA, AND SHE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE SOME INFORMATION WITH YOU ABOUT OUR CHAPTER ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD.

THE WCHS DECA CHAPTER TOOK 27 MEMBERS TO THE DECA DAY AT THE VIRGINIA STATE FAIR.

SOME MEMBERS COMPETED IN A CUSTOMER RELATIONS ROLE PLAY AND OTHER MEMBERS COMPETED IN A REBRANDING CHALLENGE.

OUT OF THE MEMBERS THAT COMPETED DELANEY HALL, WHO UNFORTUNATELY COULDN'T BE HERE WITH US TODAY, PLACED SECOND IN THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS ROLE PLAY.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO PRESENT TO YOU, EVIE HOUSTON, AVA POWELL, AND CARISSA SPEAR, UM, WHO PLACED FIRST AS A TEAM FOR THEIR COMMUNITY REBRANDING COMPETITION.

WOULD YOU LADIES LIKE TO STAND UP? THANK YOU.

CONGRATULATIONS.

CONGRATULATIONS, LADIES.

UM, OUR CHAPTER PLACES COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AS A TOP PRIORITY.

THIS YEAR WE WANTED TO RAISE AWARENESS BY HAVING KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY PLEDGE TO BE UPSTANDERS, NOT BYSTANDERS TO BULLYING.

IT'S MY PLEASURE TO PRESENT TO YOU ALI MEASEL ELECT AND ALEXA BRADLEY, WHO WILL GIVE YOU A BRIEF SUMMARY OF WHAT THEY'VE BEEN DOING TO ACCOMPLISH THIS.

THANK YOU GUYS.

HI, I'M ALEXA.

I'M ALLIE.

WE'RE A PART OF WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, DECA.

UM, OUR PROJECT IS PRETTY MUCH JUST ALTOGETHER BRINGING AWARENESS TO ALL FORMS OF BULLYING AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND HAVING KIDS IN THE COMMUNITY.

UM, JOIN ALONG.

WE WORKED WITH E WILSON AND WE'RE GONNA WORK WITH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE'RE GONNA TALK TO THE KIDS, JUST TALK TO THEM TO PROVE THAT BULLYING IS NOT THE SOLUTION.

WE HAVE PLEDGE CARDS FOR THEM TO SIGN JUST TO SAY THAT THEY WILL NOT BULLY THAT THEY'LL BE AN UPSTANDER, AND WE'RE TRYING TO TEACH THEM THE RIGHT WAY TO HANDLE BULLYING.

YEAH.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

THANK YOU.

YEAH, AND AS MR. GARDNER SAID, ALL OF THESE LADIES ARE FIRST YEAR MEMBERS AND THEY'RE DOING AMAZING.

SO WE'RE CONFIDENT THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE EVEN BETTER, YOU KNOW, FURTHER ON IN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER.

AS YOU CAN TELL, WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THEM.

NOW, I'D LIKE TO INVITE AYANA AGAIN TO SHARE SOME MORE INFORMATION WITH YOU ABOUT A RECENT EVENT THAT WE JUST HELD IN ORDER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A CHAPTER.

WCHS.

DECA WAS INVOLVED WITH THE MAIN STREET FESTIVAL OF LEAVES THROUGH OUR ADVISORS FOOD TRUCK BUSINESS, CAROLINA DREAMIN.

WE SOLD FOOD AND WATER AT THE FESTIVAL.

FROM THIS, WE RAISED $1,500 IN GROSS SALES, WHICH WILL HELP US A LOT WITH FUTURE CHAPTER EVENTS.

SO SEVEN YEARS AGO, WE WERE LOOKING FOR A WAY TO PREPARE OUR COMPETITORS FOR PROJECT PRESENTATION AND VARIOUS ROLE PLAYS AND FOR STATE COMPETITION.

MR. GARDNER BEING NEW TO THE DISTRICT, DID NOT HAVE MANY CONNECTIONS YET WITH LOCAL BUSINESS PEOPLE.

SO HE ASKED MS. NIKKI FOSTER TO ASSIST OUR CHAPTER WITH OBTAINING MEMBERS OF THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO HELP MENTOR AND COACH STUDENT COMPETITORS.

SINCE THAT TIME, MS. FOSTER HAS BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE OF OUR DECA CHAPTER WITH VARIOUS COMMUNITY AND CHAPTER ACTIVITIES.

WE THEREFORE REQUEST THAT THE WARREN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION HELP US TO FORMALLY RECOGNIZE HER AS AN OFFICIAL BUSINESS PARTNER OF OUR CHAPTER.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING US TONIGHT.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO POSSIBLY SEEING YOU ALL IN THE SPRING TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE RESULTS FROM OUR STATE CONFERENCE.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

MS. DID WE WANNA SAY ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THAT? MS. FOSTER, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY ANYTHING? I'M SUPER PROUD OF ALL THESE FOLKS AND I LOVE WORKING WITH THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

ALRIGHT, THANK YOU.

AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP.

ALL RIGHTY, MADAM CHAIR, I BELIEVE THAT SUMMARIZES OUR, UM, PRESENTATIONS FOR THIS EVENING.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

UM,

[01:20:01]

NEXT UP WE'RE GONNA

AND LIMIT YOUR COMMENTS TO THREE MINUTES.

MR. VALENTINE, DO WE HAVE ANYONE SIGNED UP THIS EVENING? UH, THREE MEMBERS HAVE SIGNED UP OF THE PUBLIC TO SPEAK.

THE FIRST IS KATHY BAUER.

MS. BOW, I'D LIKE TO HAVE JENNA REAMER SPEAK FIRST AND THEN I'LL SPEAK SECOND.

I WAS HOPING TO BE ABLE TO DONATE MY SPEAKING TIME TO HER, BUT SINCE THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE, I'LL FINISH READING HER SHEET WHEN SHE FINISHES.

THANK YOU.

JENNA REAMER 4 0 9 OVERLOOK DRIVE, UM, AND I'M A COMMUNITY MEMBER.

AS SOME OF YOU MAY BE AWARE, OVERLOOK DRIVE IS DIRECTLY ADJACENT TO SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I'VE LIVED ON THE STREET SINCE I WAS A CHILD.

HOWEVER, AS AN ADULT OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, I'VE GROWN INCREASINGLY CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY AND CONGESTED TRAFFIC ISSUES THAT THE SCHOOL FACES AT DAILY DISMISSAL.

EACH OF THE FOUR ADULTS IN MY FAMILY WHO LIVE ON THE STREET HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT AT LEAST ONCE BECAUSE OF ILLEGAL PARKING AND RISKY DRIVING PRACTICES THAT ARE OCCURRING THERE.

AND AT THE END OF LAST SCHOOL YEAR, I VERY NARROWLY AVOIDED HITTING A STUDENT WHO WAS TRYING TO CROSS LURAY AVENUE AT THE END OF THE DAY BECAUSE THEY STEPPED OUT FROM BETWEEN ILLEGALLY PARKED CARS IN FRONT OF THE CROSSWALK, AND I HAD NO VISIBILITY.

WHEN THIS CURRENT CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR BEGAN, I DECIDED I COULDN'T SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR A STUDENT TO BE HURT.

I WOULD LIKE TO SPECIFICALLY LIST THE TRAFFIC AND DISMISSAL ISSUES THAT I HAVE WITNESSED.

THE LARGEST PROBLEM IS THAT MANY PARENTS ARE NOT OPTING TO PICK THEIR CHILDREN UP IN THE DESIGNATED PICKUP LINE.

INSTEAD, THEIR CHILDREN ARE DISINGENUOUSLY BEING CONSIDERED WALKERS AND ARE COMING TO MEET THEIR PARENTS WHEREVER THEY HAVE FOUND SPACE FOR THEIR CAR THAT DAY.

ON THE STREET.

THESE PARENTS ARE OFTEN ILLEGALLY AND UNSAFELY PARKED.

THEY ARE PARKING BOTH ON NO PARKING YELLOW LINES NEXT TO THE SCHOOL AND IN THE BIKE, THE BIKE LANE ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE SCHOOL.

WHEN CARS ARE PARKED ON THE YELLOW LINES, THEY'RE OFTEN BLOCKING VISIBILITY TO THE CROSSWALK, FORCING STUDENTS TO UNSAFELY STEP OUT FROM BETWEEN PARKED CARS.

WHILE THE SCHOOL DOES HAVE A TEACHER THAT COMES DOWN AS A DAILY CROSSING GUARD, HE'S NOT THERE EVERY DAY AND HE OCCASIONALLY COMES AFTER STUDENTS HAVE ALREADY STARTED LEAVING THE BUILDING.

HE IS NOT THERE BEFOREHAND AND SOME CHILDREN ARE END UP CROSSING WITHOUT ASSISTANCE.

IF YOU TAKE A RIGHT TURN OFF OF OVERLOOKED DRIVE AND TRAVEL TOWARDS MAIN STREET, THERE IS A BLIND HILL RIGHT WHERE THE BUS LANE EMPTIES ONTO LERE AVENUE.

WHEN CARS ILLEGALLY PARK ON THE YELLOW LINE IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL HERE, THIS FORCES CARS COMING UP OVER THE BLIND HILL TO EITHER HAVE TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE PARKED CARS OR TO CROSS THE DOUBLE LINE AND DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD.

THIS DOUB IS A PROBLEM WHEN THERE'S ONCOMING TRAFFIC IN THE LANE, THEY ARE FORCED INTO WHEN CARS PARKED ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF LURAY AVENUE IN THE BIKE LANE.

THIS FURTHER NARROWS THE ROAD SO THAT AT TIMES ONLY ONE CAR OR SCHOOL BUS CAN DRIVE STRADDLING THE CENTER LANE IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL.

THIS IS EXTREMELY CONGESTED AND UNSAFE WITH DRIVERS OFTEN NARROWLY MISSING EACH OTHER.

NEAR THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, I CONTACTED PRINCIPAL BOBBY JOHNSTON TO DISCUSS MY CONCERNS.

HE SAID THAT HE WAS AWARE OF A MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS THERE, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO OFFER ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION.

HE STATED THAT IT'S BEEN A PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME, AS IF THAT MAKES IT AN ACCEPTABLE PROBLEM.

HE SAID THAT THE POLICE NEED TO BE THE ONES TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE SITUATION.

I, HOWEVER, HAVE A HANDFUL OF SUGGESTIONS THAT THE SCHOOL COULD IMPLEMENT.

THINGS SUCH AS SENDING A LETTER HOME ABOUT THE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS, ASKING THE PARENTS FOR THEIR HELP, PUTTING OUT CONES OR ADDITIONAL SIGNS TO PREVENT CARS FROM ILLEGALLY AND UNSAFELY PARKING, ASKING FOR MORE POLICE INVOLVEMENT OR UTILIZING THE NEARBY ALMOST EMPTY PARKING LOT NEXT TO THE TRACK AND FIELD FOR WAITING PARENTS

[01:25:01]

TO USE.

HE TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD BRING OUR SHARED CONCERNS TO THE SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE AND ASK FOR SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO IMPROVE SAFETY.

SO I'M HOPING THAT YOU ALL ARE ALREADY AWARE OF AND WORKING ON IMPROVING THIS SITUATION.

I'VE ALSO SPOKEN WITH TWO FRONT ROYAL POLICE OFFICERS.

THEY SHARED SENTIMENTS THAT THE DISMISSAL SITUATION HAS BEEN CONCERNING FOR YEARS, BUT STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE TICKETING ILLEGAL ACTIVITY DURING DISMISSAL TIME.

'CAUSE IF THEY GIVE OUT ONE TICKET, THEY WOULD HAVE TO TICKET EVERYONE AND THEY CAN'T GIVE OUT THAT MANY TICKETS.

THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THEY HELP OR THEY HELP WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE, BUT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION WOULD NEED TO COME FROM THE SCHOOL BY COMMUNICATING WITH THE PARENTS AND MAKING DISMISSAL PROCEDURE CHANGES.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GAME OF HOT POTATO WITH THE POLICE AND THE SCHOOL.

ULTIMATELY, THERE'S NO GREAT CHANGE AND NO RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY EITHER PARTY FOR A LONGSTANDING PROBLEM.

I REACHED OUT TO MULTIPLE PARENTS OF STUDENTS AT SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THANK YOU.

IF YOU DON'T MIND TURNING OFF TOMO.

SURE.

OKAY.

KATHY BAUER 4 0 5 OVERLOOK DRIVE.

I REACHED OUT TO MULTIPLE PARENTS OF STUDENTS AT SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

EACH PARENT I TALKED TO FELT BOTH FRUSTRATION AND CONCERN.

WITH THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, THEY FEEL THAT STUDENT SAFETY SHOULD BE PRIORITIZED ABOVE ALL, AND RIGHT NOW IT IS NOT.

FINALLY, I SPOKE TO A BUS DRIVER WHO DRIVES SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS HOME EACH DAY.

HE RELAYED BOTH EXASPERATION AND DISTRESS OVER THE VAST NUMBER OF COMPLEX ISSUES ON LERAY AVENUE AND ADDED THAT WHEN HE LEAVES THE BUS LANE, CARS ARE OFTEN ILLEGALLY PARKED SO CLOSE TO HIS EXIT THAT HE HAS TO DRIVE ON THE ENTIRELY WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SWING FAR ENOUGH OUT.

AND HE CANNOT ALWAYS SEE IF THE CROSSWALK IS CLEAR.

HE SAID THAT WHILE THE POLICE DO COME DOWN A FEW DAYS A WEEK AND THEIR PRESENCE GRACEFULLY IMPROVES THE SITUATION, THE SAME CARS ARE BACK TO PARKING ILLEGALLY THE NEXT SCHOOL DAY.

HE WAS SO CONCERNED WITH STUDENT SAFETY THIS PAST WEEK THAT HE CALLED THE POLICE HIMSELF.

LAST WEEK, I, MR. DREAMER, SAT ON LERAY AVENUE FROM THREE 15 TO THREE 40 AND JUST WATCHED DURING THAT TIME, I SAW ONE CHILD STEP INTO A VISIBLY BLOCKED AND UNATTAINED UNATTENDED CROSSWALK AND ALMOST GET HIT BY A CAR AS I WAS SCREAMING AT HER FROM ACROSS THE STREET TO STOP AND WATCH OUT.

I ALSO GOT A FEW PICTURES OF THE SITUATION, WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU ALL TONIGHT.

MR. VALENTINE HAS THOSE PICTURES.

THERE WERE MANY OTHER CONCERNING PICTURES TO GO ALONG WITH IT THAT I TOOK OF THE TRAFFIC THAT DAY, BUT NONE THAT MADE ME SO SICK TO MY STOMACH LIKE THIS DID.

IT FEELS TO ME THAT THE COMMUNITY, PARENTS AND EVEN BUS DRIVERS ARE ALARMED AT THE UNSAFE CONDITIONS FOR THE STUDENTS OF THIS SCHOOL.

AND NOW THAT YOU ARE ALL FULLY AWARE OF THEM, YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THIS SITUATION AND AN ACCIDENT IS PREVENTABLE.

HOWEVER, IF YOU ALL DO NOT WORK WITH THE SCHOOL AND POLICE TO FIGURE OUT A SOLUTION TO THESE LONGSTANDING ISSUES, I BELIEVE IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A CHILD IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE.

I CHALLENGE YOU ALL TO SPEND FROM THREE 15 TO 3 45 SITTING ON LOU RAY AVENUE AND SEE WHAT I SEE EVERY DAY.

THANK YOU FOR KEEPING OUR CHILDREN'S SAFETY AND NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

THANK YOU BOTH.

I'M SORRY, SHARON SHANNON, IS THAT IT FOR THE LIST TONIGHT? THAT'S THE LAST ONE THAT SIGNED UP.

YES.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE HERE THAT WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK THIS EVENING? YES, PLEASE.

OKAY.

OKAY.

GOOD EVENING, UH, SCHOOL BOARD PANEL.

MY NAME IS ALEX ANDERS AAD.

I'M A PARENT OF A CHILD AT RUSTY JEFFERS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND, UH, THIS IS A ISSUE WITH THE WAITING LINE TO RETRIEVE AND, AND, UH, DROP OFF CHILDREN AT THE RUY JEFFRIES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

UH, IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE AND, UH, COULD ALSO BE A, UM, ATTENDANCE ISSUE IF IT CAUSES DELAYS WHEN DROPPING OFF.

KIDS.

UH, PARENTS OF STUDENTS AT JESSE JEFFREY JEFFERIES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAVE FOR YEARS LINED UP IN THEIR CARS ALONG EAST CHRYSLER ROAD IN FRONT, UM, ROAD IN FRONT OF SAMUELS PUBLIC LIBRARY AT BURRELL BROOKS PARK AND CULLIGAN OF FRONT ROYAL DOWN TO ROUTE 5 22 TO DROP OFF AND PICK UP THEIR CHILDREN FOR AND AFTER SCHOOL WITHOUT THEIR EVER HAVE, WITHOUT THEIR EVER HAVING BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS THAT I'M AWARE OF.

I NOTICED IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER THAT FRONT ROYAL POLICE DEPARTMENT BEGAN PREVENTING PARENTS FROM LINING UP, STARTING AT THE RECENTLY CROSS PAINTED AREA, COVERING ABOUT FOUR CAR LENGTHS ON EAST CHRYSLER ROAD IN FRONT OF SAMUEL'S PUBLIC LIBRARY.

AND ON ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ROUTE 5 22.

THIS PREVENTS PARENTS FROM CONTINUING TO LINE UP THERE.

PARENTS ARE TOLD BY FRONT

[01:30:01]

ROYAL POLICE OFFICERS ON SITE TO INSTEAD KEEP CIRCLING THE SCHOOL AREA UNTIL THERE IS ROOM TO PULL IN FRONT OF THE CROSS PAINTED AREA OR FACE OR FACE CITATION.

WHEN CALLING THE FRONT ROYAL POLICE DEPARTMENT TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS NEW PROCEDURE, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE ONLY ENFORCING THE LAW AS A RESULT OF THIS SPECIFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT PROJECT.

MORE VEHICLES ARE CIRCLING THE PROXIMITY OF THE SCHOOL, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF FOR ACCIDENTS WHICH COULD ENDANGER THE LIVES OF STUDENTS WHEN ARRIVING, LEAVING THE SCHOOL.

UH, SO HERE TO, UH, SOME POSSIBLE SOLUTION.

IF THE FRONT FRONT ROYAL POLICE DEPARTMENT CONTINUES WITH THIS LAW ENFORCEMENT PROJECT, MAY I SUGGEST THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD REQUEST THE TOWN OF FRONT ROYAL OR WARREN COUNTY, UH, TO WIDEN CHRYSLER ROAD ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ROUTE 5 22 IN ORDER TO SAFELY ACCOMMODATE THE PARENTS WAITING IN LINE.

MEANWHILE, PERHAPS STUDENTS OF DIFFERENT GRADES COULD BE RELEASED AT HALF HOUR INTERVALS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE THAT WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK THIS EVENING? YES, SIR.

GOOD EVENING.

MY NAME IS ADAM BITNER.

I AM A, A PARENT TO THREE STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN, UH, WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, ONE OF WHOM IS A NON-VERBAL SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENT.

UM, AS A RESULT, I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY AND SECURITY AT OUR SCHOOLS.

UM, THE FIRST YEAR IN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, WE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE AS TO ONE THAT WAS VISITED JUST LAST MONTH.

UH, AND ADMINISTRATOR FOR WARREN COUNTY SCHOOLS SENT OUR CHILD IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AT THE TIME HOME WITH AN IMPACT INJURY.

WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS SENT MY CHILD HOME WITHOUT CALLING OR INFORMING US OF A POSSIBLE HEAD INJURY.

THIS WAS OVER A DECADE AGO.

SO FAST FORWARD TO LAST YEAR, A ROLLERCOASTER OF A YEAR WHERE ULTIMATELY SAFETY AND INTEGRITY IN THE CLASSROOM WERE SUCH A CONCERN THAT WE MOVED OUR NONVERBAL STUDENT FROM WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, I'M SORRY, FROM WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL AS A PARENT, SAFETY AND SECURITY IN OUR SCHOOLS IS PARAMOUNT.

THERE SHOULDN'T BE A DOUBT IN OUR MIND.

SIMPLE.

THAT BEING SAID, WHAT DO WARREN COUNTY COURTHOUSE, FRONT ROYAL TOWN HALL, THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE, SCHOOL BOARD OFFICES, PUBLIC WORKS IN THE WATER TREATMENT FACILITY, WHAT DO THEY ALL HAVE IN COMMON? THEIR LOCAL GOVERNMENT FACILITIES AND THEY HAVE CAMERAS IN SOME CASES AND ABUNDANCE.

SO WHY DON'T OUR SCHOOLS, THESE BUILDINGS HAVE CAMERAS FOR SECURITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN THAT ORDER? ARE CHILDREN NOT AS IMPORTANT? PROTECTION? WELL, CAMERAS AS A DETERRENT SYSTEM.

DO I NEED TO SAY ANYMORE? I WILL.

IT CAN BE SAID THAT CAMERAS CAN PROVIDE GREATER LEGAL PROTECTION FOR ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF IN INSTANCES OF ALLEGATION OF ANY SORT.

DO I NEED TO SAY MORE? TO THE SCHOOL EMPLOYEE STAFF CONCERNED WITH PRIVACY, YOU'RE AN EMPLOYEE AND IN 2023 PLACES OF EMPLOYMENT HAVE CAMERAS RIGHTS TO PRIVACY.

NEITHER OF THE AFOREMENTIONED PLACES WILL TURN OFF CAMERAS TO OBSERVE YOUR INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY.

THE PRIVACY ACT OF 1974 GUARANTEES THE RIGHT OF INDIVIDUALS TO BE PROTECTED AGAINST UNWARRANTED INVASION OF THE PRIVACY FROM OF THEIR PRIVACY FROM THE COLLECTION.

MAINTENANCE USE AND DISCLOSURE.

DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION.

BLACK'S LAW DICTIONARY ABOUT PRIVACY.

THE RIGHT THAT DETERMINES THE NON-INTERVENTION OF SECRET SURVEILLANCE AND THE PROTECTION OF AN INDIVIDUAL'S INFORMATION SECRET SURVEILLANCE.

WALMART, TARGET AIRPORTS ALSO WILL NOT TURN OFF CAMERAS TO OBLIGE INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY.

IS IT UNREASONABLE TO ASK FOR 21ST CENTURY SAFETY AND SECURITY MEASURES FOR OUR CHILDREN? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

PUT CAMERAS IN SCHOOLS EVERYWHERE BUT INSIDE THE BATHROOMS. THANK YOU.

I'M JUST OBLIGING TO HER OVER HERE.

.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE, UM, WHO WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK THIS EVENING? OKAY, THAT'S

[3. Consent Agenda]

GONNA BRING US ONTO THE CONSENT AGENDA THIS EVENING.

IS THERE A MOTION I MOVE

[01:35:01]

TO ACCEPT THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED? IS THERE A SECOND? I SECOND.

ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

THANK YOU.

UP

[4.A. Superintendent]

NEXT, WE HAVE REPORTS.

DR.

BALLINGER.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

UH, I DO WANT TO WELCOME EVERYBODY WITH US, UM, IN PERSON AND THOSE THAT SHOWED UP TONIGHT AND THOSE THAT ARE ONLINE.

UM, I DO WANNA ALSO RECOGNIZE, UM, THE SCHOOLS THAT THAT PRESENTED AND, AND SHOWCASING THEIR STUDENTS AND THEIR STAFF.

UM, I DO APPRECIATE ALSO THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT, UH, FOR THE SERVICES AND, AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THEY PROVIDE FOR OUR TEACHERS AND, AND FOR OUR STUDENTS.

MY REPORT IS GONNA BE SHORT.

I JUST WANTED TO REMIND EVERYBODY THAT, UM, NOVEMBER 7TH, WE WILL HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DAY.

SO NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.

STAFF WILL STAFF UNFORTUNATELY HAS TO REPORT.

UH, VETERAN'S DAY IS NOVEMBER THE 10TH, AND ON THAT DAY, THAT IS A HOLIDAY, SO ALL SCHOOLS AND OFFICES ARE CLOSED.

UM, ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THAT REACHING OUT NOW WILL BE HOLDING A COMMUNITY DINNER ON NOVEMBER 15TH AT WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, RECOGNIZING OUR SERVICE MEMBERS.

UH, SO EVEN THOUGH VETERAN'S DAY IS ON THE 10TH REACHING OUT NOW, WE'LL BE HAVING A COMMUNITY DINNER ON THE, UH, 15TH AT WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.

AND THEN, UM, INTERIMS WILL BE ISSUED OR PROGRESS REPORTS AS SOME CALL 'EM, UH, NOVEMBER 13TH AND THEN THANKSGIVING BREAK WILL BE FROM NOVEMBER 20TH THROUGH NOVEMBER 24TH.

THANK YOU, DR.

BALLINGER.

UM, MS. LOWE,

[4.B. School Board]

THANK YOU.

UM, I'LL KEEP MY COMMENTS SHORT TO, UH, TODAY AS WELL.

UM, OVER THE LAST MONTH, I WAS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RUSTY JEFFRIES, UM, GUIDANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, UM, WHERE WE HEARD ABOUT SOME GREAT WORK THAT MS. FRANKLIN AND MS. CHARLES ARE DOING TO, UH, ENSURE THAT THE PROGRAM THAT THEY HAVE THERE, UH, MEETS NATIONAL CERTIFICATION STANDARDS.

SO THEY'RE GOING WELL ABOVE AND BEYOND THE STATE REQUIREMENTS.

UM, AND IT WAS REALLY INTERESTING TO HEAR ABOUT THE DATA THEY HAVE, THE PROGRAMS THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON.

SO THANK YOU TO THEM AND TO THE OTHER STAFF WHO, UM, ATTENDED THAT AND PARTICIPATED IN THAT.

UM, I ALSO WORKED AT THE RESI FALL FESTIVAL, WHICH WAS A LOT OF FUN.

I WAS SLINGING PIXIE STICKS ALL NIGHT LONG, COVERED IN DUST AND SNEEZING, MULTIPLE COLORS AFTERWARDS.

UM, BUT IT WAS A LOT OF FUN TO SEE ALL THE KIDS IN THEIR COSTUMES.

UM, SO THANKS TO ALL OF THE TEACHERS WHO HELPED PUT THAT ON AS WELL AS ALL THE PARENTS AND FAMILIES WHO CAME OUT TO THAT.

IT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

UM, I WAS ALSO ABLE, UM, A FEW WEEKS AGO TO VISIT WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, UM, WHICH WAS GREAT.

IT WAS GREAT TO, UM, HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH MR. CANES AND SOME OF THE STAFF THERE AND SEE THE DIFFERENT THINGS GOING ON THERE.

UM, I ALSO WENT TO THE DECA FOOD TRUCK DURING THE FESTIVAL OF LEAVES, UM, AND THEY HAVE GREAT FOOD THERE, SO IF YOU ALL SEE THEM IN THE COMMUNITY AT ANY POINT, DEFINITELY CHECK THEM OUT.

IT'S FOR A GOOD CAUSE AND IT REALLY TASTES GOOD AND IT'S GOOD VALUE.

UM, I ALSO WAS ABLE TO VISIT WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL, UM, OVER THIS PAST MONTH.

AND SO THAT WAS, UM, REALLY NICE AS WELL.

THANK YOU TO DR. JOHNSTON FOR, UM, SPEAKING TO ME FOR A WHILE AND SHOWING ME AROUND A LITTLE BIT.

I SPOKE TO SOME OF THE OTHER TEACHERS AND STAFF THERE, AND I HAPPENED TO BE THERE ON ONE OF THE DAYS THAT THE WARREN COALITION HAD THEIR, UM, ACTIVITIES SET UP.

SO I GOT TO WATCH SOME OF THAT, WHICH WAS GREAT AS WELL, AND HEAR ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE DOING, UM, WITH THOSE ACTIVITIES.

AND THEN I ALSO ATTENDED THE SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL, UM, WHICH WAS VERY SPARSELY ATTENDED.

UM, I HOPE THAT MORE PARENTS, UM, SHOW INTEREST IN THAT AND COME OUT TO THAT.

THERE'S ANOTHER ONE COMING UP THIS, UM, COMING UP NEXT WEEK.

UM, I BELIEVE IT'S ON THE EIGHTH, BUT IT'S IN THE EMAIL THAT, UM, DR. JOHNSTON SENDS OUT TO PARENTS.

SO I HOPE WE'LL HAVE MORE PARTICIPATION WITH THAT AS WELL.

UM, AND I ALSO VISITED SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL AGAIN LAST WEEK AND HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO FOLLOW UP WITH SOME OF THE TEACHERS, UM, WHO I'VE TALKED WITH BEFORE AND KIND OF HEAR ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE GOING THERE.

UM, SO I APPRECIATE, UM, THOSE TEACHERS WHO TOOK THE TIME TO SPEAK TO ME AS WELL.

AND WE HAD A BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING, UM, AND SOME OF THAT WE IS ON OUR AGENDA TODAY, SO WE'LL SPEAK ABOUT THAT LATER.

BUT WE DO HAVE SOME, UH, GOOD NEWS COMING OUT OF THE STATE, UM, WHICH IS ALWAYS FANTASTIC.

SO I THINK THAT WE'RE GONNA BE ABLE TO, UM, MAKE SOME GOOD CHANGES BASED ON THAT.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU DR.

FUNK.

THANK YOU.

UM, I DID ATTEND THE BUDGET MEETING AND, AND JUST TO REITERATE WHAT MS. LOWE SAID, UM, WE HAVE HEARD SOME GOOD THINGS COMING.

ADDITIONALLY FROM THE STATE, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND, UM, OR TO VISIT SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND, UM, VISITED FOUR CLASSROOMS, UH, WAS IN THERE DURING TWO DIFFERENT LUNCH SHIFTS.

UM, VISITED A PE CLASS, WAS ABLE TO, UM, TALK BRIEFLY TO SOME TEACHERS DURING A GRADE LEVEL COLLABORATIVE, UH, PLANNING.

AND, UM, WAS WALK THE HALLS ON, I THINK IT WAS THE FIRST DAY WITH ONE OF THEIR PARENT VOLUNTEERS, WHICH WAS, UM, WAS WHEN SHE WAS VOLUNTEERING.

UM, SO HAD SOME GOOD INTERESTING

[01:40:01]

CONVERSATIONS FOR THE COUPLE OF HOURS THAT I WAS THERE.

UM, ALSO WENT TO RUSSIE JEFFRIES AND I GOT TO SEE ALL THE FALL FESTIVAL PREPARATIONS, UM, YOU KNOW, WALKING THE HALLS.

AND THAT WAS MY FIRST THING.

OH, YOU GUYS ARE PREPARING? WHEN IS THAT AGAIN? UM, IT WAS JUST, IT WAS, UM, AMAZINGLY DECORATED, SO I KNOW THE KIDS.

I, I, I'M SURE THEY HAD A, A GREAT TIME WITH THAT.

SO, UH, THOSE WERE A COUPLE OF PLACES THAT I WAS ABLE TO VISIT AND PARTICIPATE IN THE MEETINGS.

AND I HAVE DEFINITELY MARKED E WILSON MORRISON'S PLAY ON MY CALENDAR ALREADY.

UM, THEY'VE GOT ME ALREADY EXCITED FOR THAT BECAUSE AS A YOUNG CHILD, I WAS ALSO VERY MUCH INVOLVED IN, UM, THEATER AND CLASSES AND, UM, JUST TO SEE THEIR ENTHUSIASM.

AND I'M PRETTY SURE THAT MR. TRAVIS WAS ONE OF MY FORMER STUDENTS.

SO TO SEE HIM THERE DOING THAT WAS, UM, JUST, IT'S VERY, UM, HEARTWARMING, A LITTLE BIT SAD, AGES ME A LITTLE BIT.

UM, BUT I'M VERY, UM, IT'S VERY AWESOME WHEN YOU, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE AN EDUCATOR AND IN THIS POSITION AND YOU SEE PEOPLE WHO, UM, I WAS AN ADMINISTRATOR WITH AND HE WAS ONE OF MY KIDDOS, UM, IN THAT POSITION, YOU KNOW, CONTINUING THAT ON.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

SO, UM, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU MS. SAMS. UM, I LOVED THE PRESENTATIONS THIS EVENING.

THAT WAS, THAT REALLY PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE.

UM, I ATTENDED THE BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING AND WITH MR. RINALDI, UM, WE GOT TO SEE THE, THE RENOVATIONS THAT ARE TAKING PLACE AT LFK.

AND I AM HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THEY ARE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE AND ON BUDGET, AND I BELIEVE THEY'RE GONNA BE MOVING THEIR CLASSROOMS SOONER THAN PLANNED, DOING THE MERRY-GO-ROUND OF CLASSROOMS, UH, NEXT WEEK.

SO WE'LL HAVE EVERY, THE NEW KIDDOS IN, IN THEIR NEW CLASSROOMS. UM, AND THEN I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYBODY HAD OUR SCHOOL BOARD EMAIL ADDRESS BECAUSE, UM, DURING THE INFORMATION THAT WE RECEIVED ABOUT, UH, THE PARKING YES, THE PARKING ISSUES, UM, I KNOW WE'VE, WE, WE HAVE NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THAT.

SO IF YOU HAVE A CONCERN AND YOU ARE NOT HEARING BACK FROM US, THEN CHANCES ARE WE HAVE NOT HEARD THE CONCERNS.

SO YOU CAN EMAIL US DIRECTLY AT SCHOOL BOARD AT WCP S DOT K12 VA US.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, MR. RINALDI.

IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE WHEN THESE, UM, CHILDREN COME UP, ESPECIALLY THE ELEMENTARY KIDS, THEY JUST KIND OF WARM YOUR HEART, YOU KNOW? UM, AND IT KIND OF PUTS A, USUALLY WITH US, WE HEAR ALL THE BAD NEWS AND IT'S GREAT TO SIT UP HERE AND SEE THE GOOD NEWS.

AND THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD NEWS HAPPENING IN WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO I JUST WANTED TO, TO MAKE MENTION OF THAT.

UH, I ALSO WANTED TO THANK THE WARREN COUNTY, UH, EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT FUND.

THAT'S A FANTASTIC PROGRAM THAT THEY HAVE AS ROAD SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND RUSTY JEFFRIES.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE ATTENDANCE.

UH, THERE, UH, ATTENDED THE WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL, UH, SYSTEMS SCHOOL, SCHOOL OPERATIONS 1 0 1, AND IT WAS PRETTY NICE.

THERE WAS ABOUT, UM, THERE WAS ABOUT 18 ADULT, UH, PARENTS THERE.

AND DR.

BALLINGER WENT OVER THE OPERATIONS OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

AND THEN WE HAD A GREAT QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD.

I REALLY ENJOYED THAT.

UM, THERE IS ONE THING I WANT TO GET STRAIGHTENED OUT.

UH, THERE WAS, UM, I HAD GOTTEN A CALL ABOUT US, UH, THE SCHOOL BOARD, SCHOOL BOARD LEAVING THE VIRGINIA SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATIONS.

UM, AND THERE WAS A, A TEACHER THAT MENTIONED TO ONE OF US ABOUT IT WAS NOT A GOOD MOVE BECAUSE THEN THE TEACHERS WOULD LOSE THEIR, UM, BENEFIT OF BEING A MEMBER OF THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.

UH, FOR EXAMPLE, UM, WHEN I WAS TEACHING IN PE WE, WE WERE A MEMBER OF A GROUP SO THAT WE HAD OUR LIABILITY COVERAGE IN CASE THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT IN THE GYM.

AND THERE WAS SOME CONCERN THAT THE TEACHERS WERE LOSING THAT IT IS TWO SEPARATE ORGANIZATIONS WITH TWO SEPARATE PACKAGES.

SO TEACHERS WERE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS AT ALL.

AND I CONFIRMED THAT WITH, UM, UM, THE LEADER OF THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.

I ALSO CONFIRMED THAT.

SO JUST TO GET THAT STRAIGHTENED OUT SO THERE'S NO MISUNDERSTANDING.

YOU KNOW, HOW IT IS WHEN, UH, SOME ONE PERSON TELLS ONE, SOME, UH, SOMEBODY AND IT GETS OVER AND OVER AND IT JUST IS, UM, GETS ALL MIXED UP.

SO

[01:45:01]

JUST WANTED TO CLEAR THAT UP AND, UM, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

THANK YOU, MR. RINALDI.

UM, I THINK LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, I REALLY ENJOYED HAVING SO MANY STUDENTS IN SO MANY SCHOOLS HERE REPRESENTED TONIGHT, UM, TELLING US ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT THEY'RE DOING WITH THEIR STUDENTS.

IT'S REALLY NICE AND REFRESHING TO HEAR SOME OF THE POSITIVES THAT WE HAVE GOING ON IN WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS BECAUSE IT IS MAJORITY THE POSITIVES THAT WE HAVE GOING ON HERE.

UM, I ATTENDED WCPS 1 0 1 WITH MR. RINALDI LAST MONTH.

UM, I'D LIKE TO THANK DR.

BALLINGER FOR PUTTING THAT TOGETHER.

I SEE AT LEAST ONE PARENT, UM, ATTENDED OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TONIGHT.

ONE THING THAT CAME OUT, UM, FROM THAT MEETING, UM, WAS THAT SOMETIMES PARENTS JUST AREN'T AWARE OF WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AT OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS.

AND WHEN YOU HAVE TO GO ONTO OUR WEBSITE, LOOK FOR OUR BOARD DOCS, FIND OUR AGENDA AND SEE WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, THAT'S SORT OF CUMBERSOME.

SO A COUPLE OF THE PARENTS FROM THAT MEETING SUGGESTED THAT WE START DOING, LIKE WE'RE DOING THE ALL CALLS FOR EVERYTHING ELSE NOW, START DOING TWICE A MONTH FOR A LITTLE SUMMARY OF WHAT OUR MEETING IS GONNA BE ABOUT AND PUT THE LINK DIRECTLY TO IT.

AND SO HOPEFULLY, UM, I KNOW I'VE GOTTEN SOME TEXTS AND FEEDBACK FROM JUST PARENTS THAT I KNOW IN THE COMMUNITY THAT SAY, HEY, WE SAW WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING THIS EVENING.

SO WE DID IT FOR OUR WORK SESSION LAST MONTH AND FOR OUR MEETING TONIGHT.

SO HOPEFULLY THAT WILL, EVEN IF PARENTS AREN'T ATTENDING, THEY'RE AWARE OF MORE WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

THERE WERE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT WE MEAN BY READINGS AND TALKING ABOUT THREE READINGS BEFORE WE DO A POLICY AS A BOARD.

SO I THINK THAT THIS IS A GREAT IDEA IF WE, YOU KNOW, DR.

BALLINGER STARTING WITH THIS SMALL GROUP OF PARENTS AND THEN THEY, THEY HAVE THEIR OWN IDEAS AND THEY SORT OF ARE ABLE TO SHARE WITH HIM AND THE REST OF THE ADMINISTRATORS AND WHICHEVER SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ARE ATTENDING THAT MONTH, WHAT THEY SORT OF DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT OUR SCHOOL DIVISION AND HOW WE COULD MAKE THINGS A LITTLE BIT MORE CLEAR AND HOW WE COULD ENGAGE PARENTS A LITTLE BIT BETTER, A LITTLE BIT MORE READILY.

SO I THINK THAT EVEN JUST THAT FIRST MEETING WAS, UM, REALLY HELPFUL AND EVERYONE WAS REALLY ENGAGED.

SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM MY OTHER BOARD MEMBERS AND DR.

BALLINGER, HOW THE REST OF THE MEETINGS GO THROUGH THE YEAR.

UM, I'D LIKE TO ALSO THANK THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATION ENDOWMENT FOR EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO FOR OUR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS.

UM, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GOLF IN THEIR TOURNAMENT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.

UM, TERRIBLE GOLFER, BUT I DID ENJOY, UM, BEING OUT THERE AND HEARING ALL THE PROJECTS THAT THEY'RE SUPPORTING WITHIN OUR SCHOOLS AND JUST BEING WITH THOSE COMMUNITY MEMBERS FOR THE AFTERNOON.

UM, I WAS ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN FFA BINGO, SO THAT WAS REALLY FUN AT SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, UM, E WILSON MORRISON'S EARLY ACT CLUB I KNOW WAS COMING AND TALK TO US A COUPLE OF TIMES.

WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO START GETTING, AND WE HAD KINDNESS CLUB FROM LFK TONIGHT, WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO START GETTING SOME OF THE OTHER EARLY ACT CLUBS TO COME AND SPEAK TO US.

UM, JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS, ALL FIVE OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ARE GONNA BE PARTICIPATING IN THE DOC SMITH CHRISTMAS BASKET COLLECTIONS THIS YEAR.

SO EACH SCHOOL, EACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAS THEIR OWN DESSERT THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE COLLECTING WITHIN THEIR SCHOOL, UM, TO PROVIDE TO THOSE BASKETS THAT GO OUT TO FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

SO THAT'S A GREAT WAY FOR THE KIDS TO JUST KIND OF TALK ABOUT IT WITH THEIR PARENTS AND COLLECT THESE ITEMS FOR THE COMMUNITY.

SO, UM, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S GOING ON BETWEEN NOW AND DECEMBER AT OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

AND THEN THIS PAST SUNDAY WE DID, UM, A JOINT PROJECT BETWEEN EARLY ACT AND ACTUALLY HANDLY INTERACT, UM, CLUB.

WE DID A RIVER CLEANUP.

UM, AND SO THAT WAS EVEN ACROSS OUR COUNTY LINES TO HAVE INTERACT STUDENTS AND EARLY ACT STUDENTS WORKING TOGETHER TO CLEAN UP OUR SHENANDOAH RIVER.

SO, UM, THAT WAS REALLY FUN TO PARTICIPATE WITH THOSE STUDENTS AND SEE HOW THEY ALL GOT TOGETHER AND INTERACTED AND DID A LOT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE.

SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR THIS WEEK, AND WE'LL GO ON

[5.A. Acceptance of Donation from Andrews Grading & Excavating LLC to A. S. Rhodes Elementary School - Dr. Ballenger]

INTO OUR ACTION AGENDA.

FIRST UP TONIGHT WE HAVE THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION FROM ANDREW'S GRADING AND EXCAVATING LLC TO AS ROADS ELEMENTARY, DR.

BALLINGER.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR JOE'S ANDREW OF ANDREW'S GRADING AND EXCAVATING.

LLC HAS DONATED A $300 TRUCKLOAD OF SOIL FOR THE AS ROADS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STEM, AND RAISED BED GARDEN PROJECT.

UM, I DO ASK THAT THE BOARD ACCEPT THIS DONATION WITH GRATITUDE.

IS THERE A MOTION I MOVE THAT THE DONATION OF A $300 DUMP TRUCK LOAD OF DIRT BY ANDREW'S GRADING AND EXCAVATING LLC FOR THE AS ROADS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STEM RAISED BED GARDEN PROJECT BE ACCEPTED WITH GRATITUDE.

IS THERE A SECOND? YES, MADAM CHAIR.

I WILL SECOND THAT.

ANY DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO THANK YOU.

[5.B. Approval of Additional Appropriation Request - Dr. Ballenger]

APPROVAL OF ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION REQUEST.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

GOVERNOR YOUNGEN CONVENED A SPECIAL SESSION OF THE 23 GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2023.

UH, DURING THIS SPECIAL GENERAL

[01:50:01]

ASSEMBLY, UH, THEY ADOPTED HOUSE BILL 6 0 0 1 AND SENATE BILL 6 0 0 1 THAT AMENDS FISCAL YEAR FY 20 DIRECT AID DISTRIBUTIONS TO SCHOOL DIVISIONS COMPARED TO CHAPTER 7, 769.

BUDGET ADOPTED AT THE 23 REGULAR SESSION IN FEBRUARY.

UM, THESE AMENDMENTS INCLUDE AMONG OTHER ITEMS, AN ADDITIONAL 2% COMPENSATION SUPPLEMENT EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1ST, 2024, AN INCREASE IN FUNDED SOQ POSITIONS, UH, SUPPORT POSITIONS AND FLEXIBLE PER PUPIL FUNDING TO BE PRIORITIZED BY SCHOOL DIVISIONS FOR STUDENT LEARNING, LOSS LITERACY AND ATTENDANCE RECOVERY.

WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS RECEIVED 2.5 5 0 9 8 8, UH, MILLION ADDITIONAL DOLLARS, UH, FROM THE NEWLY ADOPTED BUDGET.

UH, THE ADDITIONAL FUNDING IS, UH, BROKEN DOWN INTO THREE CATEGORIES, 2% COMPENSATION SUPPLEMENT FUNDING TOTALS $282,112 WITH ADDITIONAL REVENUE DUE TO AN INCREASE IN FUNDED SOQ SUPPORT POSITIONS AMOUNTING TO $555,450 AND ALL IN PER PUPIL FUNDING, TOTALING $1,713,426.

IT IS PROPOSED THAT 1,436,779 OR $479 OF THE ADDITIONAL ALL IN PER PUPIL FUNDING BE CARRIED OVER TO FY 25 TO RETAIN STUDENT SUPPORT COACHES FOR AN ADDITIONAL YEAR.

UH, WE DID SUBMIT THAT ALL IN PLAN TO THE GOVERNOR OR, OR ACTUALLY TO THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT.

AND IT HAS BEEN A APPROVED BY THE STATE.

UH, SO THE GOAL WITH THAT IS TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR, SOME OF OUR, YOU KNOW, WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO MODIFY A LITTLE BIT.

UM, BUT WE'RE GOING TO, TO BE ABLE TO KEEP, UH, IN SOME CAPACITY STUDENT SUPPORT COACHES AND, AND SOME INSTRUCTIONAL, UM, AT OUR SCHOOLS.

UM, SO THIS WILL HELP US ONE MORE YEAR WITH THAT.

WE WILL HAVE TO MODIFY 'CAUSE IT ALL HAS TO GO INTO TUTORING.

AND SO SOME OF THOSE THINGS THAT MAYBE OUR COACHES ARE DOING NOW, UM, THEY'RE GONNA HAVE TO SWITCH AND DO MORE TUTORING AND WE'RE ACTUALLY GONNA BE DOING THAT.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE ALL IN TUTORING, IT'S, IT'S BASED ELEMENTARY THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE.

SO IT'S, IT'S ALL, IT'S ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THERE'S A LITTLE BIT THERE THAT WE COULD CAPTURE FOR CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM.

UM, SO ELEMENTARY, THEY'RE NOT GONNA HAVE TO MAKE AS BIG A SHIFT BECAUSE WHEN WE BROUGHT THE COACHES IN AND WE IMPLEMENTED WITH, UM, FOUNTAS AND PINNELL OR LEVELED LITERACY, UM, THEY WERE, THEY RECEIVED TRAINING ON THAT.

AND SO THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING THOSE SMALL GROUPS THERE AT THE, AT THE ELEMENTARY, UM, AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THERE WERE MORE CHECK-INS THERE, YOU KNOW, IT WAS MORE OF A, A, A SUPPORT FOR THE STUDENTS AND NOT AS MUCH TUTORING, BUT THEY WERE DOING SOME SUBBING AND SOME VARIOUS THINGS.

SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO DO MORE OF A SHIFT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR MORE OF THE TUTORING, UH, WHEN IT COMES TO WITH THE, WITH THE STUDENT SUPPORT COACHES.

BUT WE ARE GLAD THAT THAT, UH, WAS APPROVED.

UM, AND I DID NOTICE THAT TODAY I DID LOOK.

SO IT IS ON THE WEBSITE FOR OUR APPROVAL FOR NEXT YEAR.

NOW, OUT OF THAT, UM, WE ARE GOING TO KEEP 282,112.

UM, UH, HANG ON.

ALRIGHT, SO WENT THERE.

NOW I'M GONNA GET BACK TO MY, MY TOPIC HERE.

THE 282,112 2% COMPENSATION FUNDING ALONG WITH THE 166,380 OF INCREASE IN FUNDED SOQ SUPPORT POSITIONS.

FUNDING WILL BE USED TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL 2% INCREASE.

SO WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WE'RE TAKING, AND WE'RE GOING BACK TO LAST YEAR'S SALARY SCALES WHERE WE HAD, AND WE GAVE THE 5%.

SO FOR INSTANCE, FOR TEACHERS AND INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS, THEY GOT A 5% PLUS A STEP.

SO IT WAS A 5% PLUS BASED OFF OF LAST YEAR'S SCALE.

SO WHAT WE DID TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN IS WE WENT BACK TO THE LAST YEAR SCALE AND ADDED THE 2% TO IT.

SO THAT WILL GIVE THEM THE FULL 7% PLUS A STEP FOR TEACHERS AND INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS.

EVERYBODY ELSE WILL GET THE 5% INCLUSIVE OF THE STEP EXCEPT FOR THOSE CATEGORIES WHERE WE CONDENSED AND COMBINED, UM, YOU KNOW, THE, THE SALARY SKILLS TO WHERE, WHAT IT COMES OUT TO IS THAT YOU WILL SEE, UH, MOST ALL SKILLS, ALL SKILLS AT LEAST GOT A 12%.

SO THE TEACHERS AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS, THEY GOT A LITTLE MORE.

AND THEN THOSE SKILLS THAT WE COMPRESSED GOT A LITTLE BIT MORE.

SO, SO THAT IS WHAT, YOU KNOW, SO RIGHT THERE, EVERYBODY IS AT LEAST A 12% AS FAR AS OVER THE BIENNIUM, WHICH IS WHAT WE WOULD'VE BEEN REQUIRED AT WITH THE FIVE AND THE SEVEN WOULD'VE BEEN A 12%.

AND SO WE ARE ABOVE THAT, UM, WITH OUR TEACHERS AND OUR INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS.

AND THEN THOSE OTHER CATEGORIES SUCH AS THE BUS DRIVERS, THE MAINTENANCE, WHERE WE COMPRESS THOSE, THEY ACTUALLY GOT A LITTLE BIT LARGER

[01:55:01]

JUMP, UM, THAN THE, THAN THE 12% WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE GOT.

BUT, UH, SO WHEN LOOKING AT THE NEW, STARTING IN JANUARY, SO, AND THAT'S HOW THIS ALL HAS TO PLAY OUT BECAUSE IT, IT'S SCHEDULED TO START IN JANUARY AS, UH, GO BACK TO LAST YEAR'S PAY SCALE.

WE WENT 7% FOR TEACHERS AND INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS.

THEY GOT THE 7% PLUS THEIR STEP.

SO FOR TEACHERS, I BELIEVE IT'S 1.3%.

SO FOR THIS YEAR, TEACHERS WILL, WILL REALIZE AN 8.3% 'CAUSE YOU ADD THAT STEP TO IT.

SO THAT'S THE TOTAL FOR THIS YEAR ON OUR TEACHERS.

UM, AND THEN WITH THE ADDITIONAL SOQ FUNDED POSITION, SO BACK DURING THE GREAT RECESSION, OR I GUESS YEAH, IT WAS, IT'S NOT THE DEPRESSION RECESSION , UM, THE, THE, UH, TO, TO, UH, CUT COSTS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT VIRGINIA DID WAS THEY SAID, OKAY, WE'RE NOT GONNA FUND YOU ON ALL YOUR, UM, SOQ SUPPORT POSITIONS.

SO THEY TOOK THAT NUMBER AND THEY SHRUNK IT.

AND OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, THEY'VE BEEN GIVEN A LITTLE BIT BACK, A LITTLE BIT BACK, A LITTLE BIT BACK.

AND SO WE GOT AN ADDITIONAL, I THINK IT WENT FROM DID IT GO FROM 21 TO 24, ROB? IS THAT WHAT WE WENT FROM? UH, SO WE WENT FROM 21 PER THOUSAND TO 24 PER THOUSAND IS WHAT THEY FUNDED US ON.

RIGHT, OKAY.

I'M JUST, JUST, I BELIEVE THAT'S CORRECT, YES.

YEAH.

AND UM, AND SO WHEN LOOKING AT THAT, THAT THREW IN SOME ADDITIONAL, UM, ONE WE KNEW, WE KNEW COMING INTO THIS THAT IT'S HARD WHEN YOU DO ANY SALARY INCREASES MID-YEAR BECAUSE YOUR BUDGET FROM THE LOCALITY HAS ALREADY BEEN BEEN DONE.

SO IT'S SO, SO ANYTHING THAT WE WERE GONNA DO, WE WERE GONNA HAVE TO TRY TO MAKE IT UP OURSELVES BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT WE'RE ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH THE BUDGET YEAR.

AND ONCE YOU GET YOUR BUDGET SOLIDIFIED, IT'S ALWAYS HARD TO GO BACK AND SAY, HEY, WE NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE.

BUT, UM, WE WERE ABLE TO DO THAT.

WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THOSE WITH THAT ADDITIONAL SOQ FUNDED WITH THE ADDITIONAL THAT WE GOT.

UM, WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE ALL THIS HAPPEN WITHOUT GOING BACK AND HAVING TO ASK FOR ANYTHING OR AS FAR AS FOR ADDITIONAL, ADDITIONAL REVENUES.

UM, ALSO WHEN LOOKING AT THIS, WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE SOME OF THOSE POSITIONS THAT WE'VE BEEN HOLDING.

SO FOR INSTANCE, WITH THIS YEAR, EVERYBODY WILL REMEMBER THAT WE HELD THE, UH, MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR, UM, TO MAKE ENDS MEET THIS YEAR AS FAR AS OUR BUDGET.

THIS ALLOWS US TO OPEN THAT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR.

SO WE'RE RECOMMENDING TO OPEN UP THE MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR POSITION, UH, THAT WAS PUT ON HOLD.

ALSO, WHAT WE'RE WANTING TO DO IS WE'RE GOING TO ADD TWO ART TEACHERS, UH, THAT WOULD GIVE, RIGHT NOW WE HAVE A SHARING, AND I MIGHT GET THIS WRONG, BUT FOR INSTANCE, LIKE HILDA MAY SHARE WITH E WILSON, BY ADDING TWO POSITIONS WE'RE GONNA GIVE, EACH SCHOOL WOULD HAVE THEIR OWN ART TEACHER NOW.

SO WE WANT TO ADD TWO ART TEACHERS, UM, TWO SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS, WHICH THE BOARD ALREADY APPROVED TO ADD THOSE AT THE LAST SESSION OR AT AT A PREVIOUS MEETING.

UM, WHAT WE ALSO WANNA DO IS, IS LOOK AT FOUR SECURITY OFFICERS FOR SSOS.

UM, THOSE BE THE DIVISION LEVEL, UM, TO WHERE WE CAN PLACE THOSE WHERE WE NEED THOSE, UM, FROM A DIVISION LEVEL STANDPOINT.

UM, AND THEN ONE ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE POSITION, WHICH THE BOARD HAS ALREADY KIND OF, YOU, YOU'VE ALREADY APPROVED THAT POSITION.

AND SO LOOKING AT THAT, WE'RE ABLE TO, TO GIVE OUR TEACHERS OUR, WELL, NOT JUST OUR TEACHERS, BUT OUR STAFF WE'RE, WE'RE ABLE TO GIVE OUR STAFF A RAISE STARTING IN JANUARY.

WE'RE ABLE TO BACKFILL AND OPEN SOME OF THESE POSITIONS THAT WE HAD TO HOLD OFF ON, OR A COUPLE YEARS AGO WE WEREN'T ABLE TO TO FUND.

AND SO NOW WE'RE ABLE TO PUT THOSE INTO OUR BUDGET.

UM, ALSO, WHAT'S A GOOD, WHAT'S, WHAT'S HAPPENING IS THAT WHAT'S ABLE TO TAKE SOME ADDITIONAL REVENUE THAT WAS COMING IN AND NOW WE'RE GONNA BE ABLE TO KEEP SOME, IF NOT A MAJORITY OF OUR STUDENT SUPPORT COACHES ONE MORE YEAR SO WE CAN FIND OUT.

BECAUSE I'M JUST GONNA, AND YOU GUYS KNOW, YOU HEAR IT FROM, FROM PRINCIPALS AND FROM TEACHERS, HOW IMPORTANT THE STUDENT SUPPORT COACHES ARE.

YOU KNOW, EVENTUALLY WE'RE, WE'RE NOT GONNA HAVE THIS ADDITIONAL REVENUE COMING IN.

AND SO THERE WILL BE SOME HARD CHOICES TO MAKE COMING UP OR, OR MAYBE FINDING A WAY TO, TO KEEP THOSE, UH, STAFF MEMBERS ON.

BUT WITH THIS ADDITIONAL FUNDING THAT WILL ALLOW US TO BE ABLE TO, TO KEEP THOSE POSITIONS FOR ONE MORE YEAR, NOT ALL OF THEM.

UM, AND I'LL HAVE TO RUN BACK THROUGH, AND I CAN'T

[02:00:01]

REMEMBER HOW MANY WE HAD, BUT, UM, YOU KNOW, WE'RE, WE STILL HAVE TO REDUCE A LITTLE BIT PROBABLY NEXT YEAR, UNLESS WE CAN WORK THAT INTO THE BUDGET AND SAY, OKAY, YEAH, IT'S JUST AN ADDITIONAL $300,000 INCREASE THAT MAYBE WE CAN KEEP THOSE FOR ANOTHER YEAR.

WE ALSO COULD GET ADDITIONAL TITLE ONE MONEY, YOU KNOW, THAT, THAT COULD HELP US TO KEEP SOME OF THOSE POSITIONS.

SO DEPENDING UPON HOW THINGS FLOW AND, AND, AND WHAT REVENUES WE HAVE COMING IN.

AND WE'LL ADDRESS THAT AS WE WORK, WORK THROUGH OUR BUDGET MOVING FORWARD.

WHAT WE'RE ALSO GONNA BE ABLE TO DO IS WITH THAT ALL IN TUTORING, IS WE HAVE TO, WITH OUR, WE HAVE TO PURCHASE VLA VIRGINIA LITERACY ACT, UM, INTERVENTION MATERIALS.

WE'RE USING 200 AND SOME ODD THOUSAND.

UM, IT'S IN HERE.

OKAY.

OH, THANK I I THINK I'LL USE THIS SHEET OVER HERE 'CAUSE IT'S A LITTLE BETTER FOR ME TO READ.

UM, SO THE, UH, 276,947, WE'RE GOING TO USE THAT FROM THE ALL IN TUTORING, WHICH WE CAN TO, UH, PURCHASE OUR VLA MATERIALS.

UH, SO REALLY WHEN WE LOOK AT THIS, UH, ADDITIONAL REVENUES BY TAKING OUT THE 1.436 MILLION OF THE ALL IN, THAT BRINGS US TO ADDITIONAL REVENUES OF 1,114,509, WHEN YOU DO THE 2%, THE VLA MATERIALS AND THE ADDITIONAL POSITIONS THAT WE WERE ADDING, THAT TAKES IT TO A BALANCE OF ONE 1,114,509, AND WE'RE RIGHT AT ZERO.

SO, YOU KNOW, WE WERE ABLE TO, TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN, UM, AND, AND MAKE IT WORK IN, IN, YOU KNOW, IN THE FAVOR OF THE EMPLOYEES AND IN OUR SCHOOLS AND, AND GETTING SOME OTHER WELL NEEDED THINGS THAT WE'VE, WE'VE WANTED ON OUR LIST FOR, FOR A LONG TIME.

SO WE'RE ABLE TO, TO TIP AWAY AT SOME OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE'VE BEEN HOLDING, UM, AND GET THEM ADDED INTO OUR SCHOOLS AND, AND, AND SERVE OUR STUDENTS A LOT BETTER.

UM, ANY QUESTIONS, ROB? AND I'LL TRY TO ANSWER ANYTHING YOU HAVE.

SO, SO THE PROCESS IS, YOU KNOW, WE, WE, YOU KNOW, WE'RE ON A TIMELINE HERE, SO WE GET THIS APPROVED TONIGHT.

WE WILL SEND IT DOWN IN THE MORNING TO THE COUNTY.

UM, I'VE ALREADY TALKED TO DR.

DALEY, I'M GONNA MEET WITH HIM.

UM, I DON'T KNOW IF THE BUDGET COMMITTEES WANNA MEET TO GO OVER THIS.

UM, WITH THE LIAISON, WE, YOU MAY WANNA REACH OUT AND SEE IF WE WANT TO HAVE A LIAISON MEETING, UM, TO, TO TALK ABOUT THIS AND WE CAN DO THAT.

UH, BUT I, I TALKED TO HIM ABOUT JUST KIND OF GIVING A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF IT AND THEN THE COUNTY HAS TO APPROVE IT, AND THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE WE, WE WERE THINKING AT THEIR DECEMBER MEETING, WHICH MEANS THEN WE'RE GETTING EVERYTHING DONE TO START THIS WITH THE JANUARY PAYROLL.

SO THAT'S, THAT'S OUR TIMELINE, UH, WHEN WE, WHEN WE LOOK THROUGH THIS AND, UM, IT'S, IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT GOT BEHIND A LITTLE BIT AND IT'S NOT OUR FAULT, UM, BECAUSE WE HAVE TO WAIT ON THE CALC TEMPLATES TO COME OUT.

AND WHEN THEY GIVE YOU ALL THIS OTHER INFORMATION, YOU NEVER KNOW IF THAT'S THE TRUE NUMBER OR NOT.

SO YOU, YOU, YOU DO A LITTLE BIT OF PLANNING, BUT YOU CAN'T FINALIZE EVERYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE THE DOCUMENT.

AND THEN IT WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO, I THINK WHEN ROB FINALLY GOT THAT DOCUMENT AND WE WERE ABLE TO REALLY START PUTTING PEN TO PAPER AND, UM, YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT NUMBERS AND, AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT.

SO, AND I DO WANNA APPRECIATE THE, UH, BUDGET COMMITTEE FOR THE WORK THAT THEY ARE DOING ON THIS AND, AND, YOU KNOW, MAKING SURE THAT, THAT OUR STUDENTS STILL, YOU KNOW, WE KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING AND THAT IS, THAT IS EDUCATING OUR STUDENTS AND THAT IS GETTING THE RESOURCES INTO OUR SCHOOLS TO HELP SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND TO GET THE RESOURCES THAT THAT WILL JUST, YOU KNOW, EVEN WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS WITH THE MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR, THAT'S BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, AND WE HAVE SOME TEACHERS OUT THERE, THERE'S PROBABLY QUITE A FEW SERVICE ORDERS THAT THEY, THEY, THEY NEED SOME THINGS DONE.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, GETTING THOSE PEOPLE TO, TO GET THE SERVICE ORDERS DONE, UM, YOU KNOW, THE HVAC TO MAKE SURE THAT THE, YOU KNOW, HEY, IT'S WINTER TIME'S COMING, WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO HAVE THE HEATERS ON, AND THEN THEY WANT TO, YOU KNOW, MAKE SURE THAT AC ISS RUNNING.

SO THOSE THINGS ALL GO INTO MAKING SURE WE HAVE A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR AND STUDENTS HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND WE FOCUS ON EDUCATION.

SO WANTED SAY THANK YOU TO THE BUDGET COMMITTEE FOR THE WORK THAT THEY DO.

ALSO, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR DR.

BALLINGER? WELL, AND JUST TO CLARIFY, WE'RE NOT ASKING FOR MORE MONEY, WE ARE JUST ASKING FOR AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE NEW MONEY THAT'S COMING TO US FROM THE STATE.

SO THAT IS CORRECT, DR. FOX.

WE'RE GONNA MAKE THAT VERY CLEAR.

WE ARE NOT, WE WILL NOT BE ASKING OUR LOCALITY FOR ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY.

THIS IS ALL STATE REVENUE THAT IS COMING IN.

AND SO THE INCREASE IN APPROPRIATIONS IS STRICTLY DUE TO STATE REVENUE.

[02:05:02]

THANK YOU BOTH FOR CLARIFYING THAT.

IS THERE A MOTION? UH, YES, MADAM CHAIR.

I'D LIKE TO MAKE THIS, UH, MOTION BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S PRETTY LONG AND I MIGHT END UP HOLDING THE RECORD FOR A LONGEST MOTION.

SO, UH, I THINK THAT'S WHAT I'M GOING TO TRY TO DO.

Y'ALL KEEP YOUR EYE ON ME THOUGH.

I MOVE THAT THE SUPERINTENDENT BE AUTHORIZED TO REQUEST THAT THE WARREN COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS INCREASE THE SCHOOL BOARD'S FISCAL YEAR 20 23, 20 24 OPERATING FUND BUDGET BY $1,114,509 BROKEN OUT INTO THE FOLLOWING EXPENDITURE CATEGORIES, 61,000 INSTRUCTION, $820,479, 62,000 ADMINISTRATION ATTENDANCE AND HEALTH, $22,217 63,000 PUPIL TRANSPORTATION, $18,728 64,000, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE, $241,850 AND 68,000 TECHNOLOGY $11,235.

I FURTHER MOVE THAT CONTINGENT UPON THE BOARD OF SUPERVISOR'S APPROVAL OF THE ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION THAT THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL POSITIONS BE APPROVED.

ONE MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR POSITION, TWO ELEMENTARY ART TEACHERS AND FOUR SECURITY OFFICERS.

AND FINALLY, I MOVE THAT CONTINGENT UPON THE BOARD OF SUPERVISOR'S APPROVAL AND THE ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION, THE PROPOSED FY 2024 AMENDED SALARY SCALES REFLECTING AN ADDITIONAL 2% INCREASE TO BE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1ST, 2024 ALSO BE APPROVED.

IS THERE A SECOND? A SECOND? YEAH.

ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? UM, I JUST WANNA COMMENT THAT I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE THE TWO ELEMENTARY ART TEACHERS.

I CAN TELL YOU FACTUALLY THAT FOR OVER 10 YEARS, THAT HAS BEEN A CONVERSATION TO ENSURE THAT, OR, OR, OR CONVERSATION OF EVERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAVING ITS OWN ART TEACHER.

UM, AND THAT IS, IS I'M REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE THAT HAPPEN.

I KNOW THAT'S GONNA HAVE A TREMENDOUS IMPACT ON OUR KIDS AND WITH OUR TEACHERS.

UM, SO I LOOK FORWARD TO US BEING ABLE TO GET TWO NEW ART TEACHERS POSITIONS FOR THAT 'CAUSE IT HAS CERTAINLY, YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN SOMETHING I KNOW THAT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME COMING.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

I OPPOSED NOW.

THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT,

[5.C. Final Reading of Policy JOAA - Classroom Video Surveillance - Mr. Smith]

NEXT UP WE HAVE THE FINAL READING OF POLICY JOA, A CLASSROOM VIDEO SURVEILLANCE.

MR. SMITH.

GOOD EVENING.

UH, THIS IS THE THIRD READING OF THE, UH, POLICY, JOAA CLASSROOM, UH, VIDEO SURVEILLANCE.

THIS POLICY ITSELF IS NOT ONE THAT MANDATES A CAMERA IN THE ROOM, HOWEVER, IF THERE'S ONE IN THE ROOM, THIS IS THE PERIMETERS OF WHICH WE FOLLOW.

UM, THE PURPOSE OF THIS IS IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES, AND AUTHORIZED VISITORS IN CERTAIN SCHOOL, UH, DIVISION CLASSROOMS, UH, THE SCHOOL BOARD MAY REQUIRE VIDEO CAMERA SURVEILLANCE IN ALL, UH, IN ALL OR SELECTED CLASSROOMS. THE POLICY ITSELF, AS WE'VE GONE OVER IN THE PAST, IDENTIFIES NINE DIFFERENT AREAS.

UM, ONE, THE TYPE OF MONITORING WE WOULD DO, UH, WITH THE VIDEO CAMERAS.

TWO, WHERE MONITORING CAN OCCUR.

UH, THREE, THE LENGTH OF TIME THAT RECORDING SHOULD BE STORED.

FOUR, THE CUSTODIAN OF THE VIDEO FOOTAGE.

FIVE, WHEN VIDEOS CAN BE VIEWED.

SIX, WHO CAN REVIEW VIDEOS.

SEVEN, PROTECTION OF STUDENT IDENTITIES.

UH, EIGHT IDENTIFIES WHEN SOCIAL SERVICES AND OR LAW ENFORCEMENTS MAY ASSESS, UH, THE VIDEO FOOTAGE, UH, AND NOT AS THE DEFINITION OF INCIDENT.

UH, SELF-CONTAINED CLASSROOMS AND THE, UH, TERM OF CLASSROOM.

I BELIEVE AT OUR LAST, UM, OUR SECOND READING, UH, THE ONE THING THAT WAS ASKED TO BE IMPLEMENTED AND ADDED ON THIS WAS ON, UH, PAGE TWO UNDER, UH, SECTION, UH, B THE PERIODIC REVIEW OF THE VIDEO RECORDINGS, AND THAT WE IDENTIFIED IS THAT IF THERE'S A CAMERA,

[02:10:01]

THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, IF THERE'S A CAMERA BEING IN THAT ROOM, UH, THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL SHALL VIEW NO LESS THAN 15 MINUTES OF THE VIDEO OF EACH PRE-KINDERGARTEN OR SELF-CONTAINED SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM AT THE SCHOOL, NO LESS THAN, AND WE ADDED IN ONCE EVERY QUARTER.

ALSO, IT CAME UP IN REGARDS TO THE, UH, PROCESS OF VIDEO CAMERAS AS FAR AS HOW WE MONITOR THEM.

MR. STOLSKI, OUR, UH, TECHNOLOGY, UH, DIRECTOR CAN SPEAK ON BEHALF OF HOW WE MONITOR VIDEO RECORDINGS THAT THE VIDEO CAMERAS THEMSELVES ARE, ARE WORKING.

SO SOMEBODY WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW THE WEREN'T FUNCTIONING NETWORK CAN SET IT UP WHERE WE HAVE ESSENTIALLY APP NOT SOMETHING WRONG CONNECTION.

SO AS FAR AS IF THE CAMERA WOULDN'T, SO THE, THE SENSOR, YOU MEAN, IS THAT LIKE JUST FOR THE SOUND OR YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT EVERYTHING, VIDEO SOUND, EVERYTHING.

YOU WOULD'VE TO, YOU WOULD'VE TO.

SO IF THERE'S A CONNECTION TO THE NETWORK, YOU WOULD BASICALLY SAY, OKAY, WE HAVE THAT STUFF GOING.

BUT AS FAR AS THE CAMERA ITSELF SENSOR PICKING UP, HAVE TO CHECK.

YOU'D HAVE TO CHECK IN ON IT REGULARLY.

SO IF, I GUESS MY, MY ONLY CONCERN WITH THAT WOULD BE IF WE WOULD BE IN A SITUATION WHERE THERE WAS A CAMERA IN A ROOM AND YOU WENT ALL YEAR LONG, WE POTENTIALLY WOULDN'T KNOW IF IT WASN'T WORKING UNTIL MAYBE IN MAY WHEN THERE WAS A REASON TO LOOK AT IT POTENTIALLY.

WELL, HOW ABOUT POTENTIALLY YOU JUST ADD THAT WHEN SCHOOL IS NOT IN SESSION, SO LIKE ON HOLIDAYS LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW, THERE IS SOMEBODY THAT WILL LOOK OVER IT BECAUSE THERE'LL BE NOBODY IN THE CLASSROOM.

AND WHENEVER, WHENEVER SCHOOL IS CLOSED, SOMEBODY CAN CHECK THAT DAY AND MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS ON.

SO IF WE HAD SOMETHING IN THERE, LIKE, I WOULD EVEN SAY IT HAS, IT NEEDS TO ALMOST BE MONTHLY WHEN SCHOOL'S CLOSED, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE WORKING OR ONCE EVERY 30 DAYS.

HOW DO YOU CHECK THE MAINTENANCE ON OUR CAMERA, ON OUR OTHER CAMERAS NOW, HOW IS THAT? IT'S PROBABLY THE SAME WAY WORKING.

I MEAN, IT'S PROBABLY THE SAME AS UNTIL, YOU KNOW, I'M SURE THAT THERE'S BEEN TIMES THAT THEY'VE WENT TO GO PULL VIDEO AND, AND HOPE THE CAMERA'S DOWN.

WE DIDN'T REALIZE THE CAMERA WAS DOWN.

WE GOTTA GET THE CAMERA UP.

SO I'M SURE THAT, THAT THAT HAS HAPPENED BECAUSE YOU KNOW, THOSE CAMERAS, WHEN MR. STEFANSKI ISS TALKING ABOUT THE SENSOR, THOSE CAMERAS DON'T RECORD ALL THE TIME BECAUSE THEY, THEY RECORD WHEN THERE'S MOVEMENT.

AND SO THAT WAY YOU'RE NOT EATING UP A LOT OF THAT STORAGE SPACE BECAUSE IT BASICALLY WILL CAPTURE A PICTURE OF A, OF A BLANK ROOM, AND THAT IS ALL YOU'RE GONNA SEE FOR 12 HOURS UNTIL SOMEBODY WALKS IN THAT CLASSROOM.

THEN IT'S GONNA PICK THAT PERSON UP.

THAT'S THAT SENSOR PART OF IT, BECAUSE IT'S MOTION BASED.

AND SO YOU, I, I HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

I MEAN, IF, IF, IF YOU'RE, YOU KNOW, WE CAN PUT, WE COULD PUT SOMETHING IN THERE THAT DURING, WHEN SCHOOL IS OUT, HAVE, YOU KNOW, SOMEBODY CHECK THAT DAY, UM, TO, TO SEE IF, IF THE SYSTEM IS WORKING.

BUT IF NOBODY'S THERE, THEN IT'S NOT GONNA TURN OFF WELL, I MEAN, IT, IT COULD BE THAT SOMEBODY MAY HAVE TO GO IN THAT, IN THAT BUILDING ON THAT DAY AND, AND WALK AROUND TO TEST THEM ALL OUT.

HOW MUCH, HOW MUCH EXTRA WORK IS THIS GONNA ADD FOR YOU, ? HOW IS, IS THERE A MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE ALREADY THAT WE COULD, HOW ARE WE GONNA DO THAT MIGHT BE SOME REQUEST, ADDITIONAL STAFFING.

UH, JUST A COUPLE CLARIFICATIONS.

ONE, ONE CAM THE CAMERAS ACTUALLY ARE RECORDING ALL THE TIME.

THERE'S SOME SOFTWARE CAPABILITIES OF TO JUST SAY LIKE, IF IT, IF IT PICKS UP A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PIXELS OF MOVEMENT, THEN IT WILL GO AHEAD AND SAY LIKE, GO, THIS IS IMPORTANT TO GO AHEAD AND PUT INTO LIKE THE, KEEP THIS FOR THE RECORDING.

SO THERE'S THAT PART OF IT AS FAR AS, UH, WHAT, WHAT PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE CAMERAS, IT'S A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN EVEN MYSELF, SAY, LIKE THE CAMERAS INSIDE THE

[02:15:01]

BUILDINGS GENERALLY ARE, UH, FUNCTION ALL THE TIME.

LIKE, THERE'S NOT A WHOLE LOT OF PROBLEMS THAT HAPPEN WITH THOSE.

IT'S THE ONES ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDINGS THAT REQUIRE A LITTLE BIT MORE MAINTENANCE.

AND I THINK THAT'S PROBABLY JUST BECAUSE OF HAVING TO DEAL WITH LIKE THE WEATHER.

ANY QUESTIONS FOR MR? SO, SO I KNOW WE'RE STILL ON THIS, AND, AND THIS KIND OF TIES IN BECAUSE I DID GET A COMMENT FROM, UM, A PRINCIPAL THAT SAID THAT I BELIEVE THAT IT SHOULD BE CHANGED TO INDICATE THAT THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT DESIGNEE WOULD SUBMIT THE WRITTEN REPORT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT IF A CAMERA IS NOT WORKING.

THEY WOULD KNOW WHY AND BE ABLE TO ACCURATELY CAPTURE THE REASON FOR THE INTERRUPTION.

THEIR DEPARTMENT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, SO THEY WOULD LIKELY DISCOVER ANY ISSUES, ESPECIALLY RE RELATED TO RECORDED VIDEO.

SO THE RECOMMENDATION WAS IF THERE IS AN INTERRUPTION IN THE OPERATION OF THE VIDEO CAMERA FOR ANY REASON WHERE POSSIBLE A WRITTEN EXPLANATION SHOULD BE SUBMITTED.

UM, AND THIS IS THE ONE THAT THEY'RE SAYING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BY THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL TO THE DIVISION SUPERINTENDENT EXPLAINING THE REASON AND THE LENGTH FOR WHY THERE'S NO RECORDING.

SO, AND, AND THEY WERE SAYING THAT THAT SHOULD BE MORE OF THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT DOING THAT REPORT BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES THAT'LL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO LOOK AT AND SEE.

I, I JUST, YOU KNOW, SINCE I RECEIVED THAT IN AN EMAIL, I WAS GONNA SHARE THAT WITH THE BOARD.

SO DO WE HAVE THAT AS PART OF OUR POLICY FOR OUR CURRENT CAMERAS NOW? UM, NO.

I DON'T, YOU KNOW, WE DON'T, YOU KNOW, IF THEY'RE, IF THEY'RE DOWN THE SCHOOL, THEY JUST CONTACT AND, AND THEY GET 'EM UP.

SO, YOU KNOW, WE TRY TO KEEP OUR CAMERAS UP AND RUNNING AT ALL TIMES.

IF WE HAVE ONE DOWN, WE'RE REPLACING IT AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN.

SO WE, WE DON'T, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, HAVE NEVER WENT WITHOUT A, YOU KNOW, VERY LONG WITH A CAMERA BEING DOWN BECAUSE WE WANT TO GET THOSE THINGS UP AND RUNNING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN WE FIND OUT IF ONE IS EVER DOWN.

RIGHT.

MY THOUGHT IS JUST THAT I, I DON'T WANT THIS TO TURN INTO TOO MUCH NITPICKING AND, AND EXTRA WORK FOR THE STAFF.

I, MY GOAL WOULD JUST BE TO TREAT THEM WITH THE SAME METHODS THAT WE TREAT ALL THE OTHER CAMERAS AS FAR AS THE MAINTENANCE GOES.

WELL, WE DO HAVE IT IN HERE, UM, UNDER SECTION A NUMBER H, WHICH IS AT THE TOP OF PAGE TWO, WHAT DR.

BALLINGER JUST SAID, EXCEPT IT SAYS THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.

SO I THINK HE'S SAYING, OR THE SUGGESTION THAT HE RECEIVED WAS TO CHANGE THAT TO, TO THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

TECH SERVICES ARE INSTEAD, WHICH I DON'T KNOW MAKES SENSE TO ME.

, I MEAN, DO WE, I GUESS MY QUESTION IS, DO WE, DO WE NEED LIKE WRITTEN REPORTS? CAN WE JUST, CAN WE JUST TALK TO ONE ANOTHER? AND I'M GONNA, AND I'M GONNA AGREE.

I MEAN, IT'S, IT'S, YOU KNOW, AND MOST OF THE TIME WHAT WILL HAPPEN, IT'LL BE AN EMAIL.

OKAY.

THEY MAY EMAIL ME AND SAY, THE CAM, I, I WENT TO LOOK AT THE CAMERA, IT'S DOWN.

I FORWARD THAT EMAIL.

I'M GONNA FORWARD THAT EMAIL STRAIGHT TO, TO DOUG AND SAY, HEY, WE NEED TO GET THIS CAMERA UP.

SO, YOU KNOW, THAT TO ME, AND I AGREE WITH YOU, A LOT OF TIMES IT MAY BE A PHONE CALL.

UM, AND I DON'T THINK IT HAS TO BE A FORMAL WRITTEN DOCUMENT.

IT JUST NEEDS TO BE INFORM US, INFORM DOUG, HALF THE TIME, THEY'RE NOT GONNA CALL ME, YOU KNOW, OR TELL ME THEY'RE GONNA CALL DOUG TO GET IT UP BECAUSE THEY KNOW I'M JUST THE FLOW THROUGH ON THAT INFO, YOU KNOW, FOR THAT INFORMATION GETTING TO THE PERSON THAT NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO DO THE JOB.

BUT I, I SAY WE JUST, YOU KNOW, RIGHT NOW, LET'S JUST, YOU KNOW, GO WITH IT.

I, I HEAR THE CONCERNS WITH SOME OF, YOU KNOW, IF, IF THEY GO DOWN, BUT WE DO HAVE, WE DO HAVE THOSE CONCERNS WITH, WITH ALL OF OUR CAMERAS.

UM, AND YOU KNOW, I, I DON'T KNOW IF PRINCIPALS ARE SITTING THERE CHECKING THOSE, ALL THOSE CAMERAS EVERY DAY.

UM, YOU KNOW, I CAN'T, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY DO THAT.

UM, I WOULD SAY PROBABLY AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS, UM, WHERE THEY HAVE AN SSO ALREADY AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS, THEY PROBABLY CHECK THOSE CAMERAS OUT AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN ANY PLACE ELSE WOULD BE.

MY GUESS.

I THINK I JUST HAVE A QUESTION FOR, I MEAN, MAYBE YOU, 'CAUSE YOU GOT AN EMAIL FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND THE REST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS.

UM, IF ANYBODY RECEIVED ANY, UM, ANY ADDITIONAL CHANGES OR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE POLICY ITSELF? I KNOW THAT THE IDEA OF CAMERAS IS NOT A POPULAR ONE, BUT I DIDN'T PERSONALLY GET ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR CHANGE TO THE POLICY ITSELF

[02:20:01]

ON THIS.

THAT WAS THE ONLY EMAIL I RECEIVED.

OKAY.

AND, AND I DO KNOW, AND SORRY, UM, I, AND, AND MR. STEFANSKI ALSO SENT A SURVEY OUT TO STAFF TO SEE WHO WOULD BE WILLING TO VOLUNTEER.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS STILL GOING OR, OR NOT.

SO WE DO HAVE THAT OUT THERE, UH, RIGHT NOW.

OKAY.

IS THERE A MOTION ON THIS? SO DO WE WANNA APPROVE IT AS IT'S WRITTEN? DO WE WANNA STRIKE THAT LETTER? HI FEEL LIKE MAYBE JUST STRIKE IT AND ASSUME THAT WE'LL FOLLOW UP ON MAINTENANCE THE WAY WE DO ALREADY.

IS THAT RASH? UM, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? WELL, IF WE HAVE SOME CAMERAS THAT AREN'T ALREADY WORKING, THEN MAYBE WE DO.

MAYBE I WILL CHANGE MY MIND ON, ON THAT AND JUST KIND OF, I, LET'S SEE IF THERE'S AN INTERRUPTION.

, YOU CAN TELL HIM.

NO, IT'S OKAY.

I FEEL LIKE YOU HAD YOUR OPPORTUNITY MR. SALE .

HE DOES, I THINK IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE ANYTHING, JUST PUT THAT THEY WILL INFORM IN GOOD FAITH, INFORM OF ANY CAMERAS BEING DOWN WITHIN A TIMELY MANNER.

YEAH.

INFORM, YOU KNOW, THE, ANY EMPLOYEE WHO FINDS OUT THE CAMERA'S NOT WORKING NEEDS JUST, JUST CHANGE THAT FROM SCHOOL PRINCIPAL TO TECHNOLOGY.

UM, DIRECTOR WILL FORM ME.

I MEAN THAT, THAT WE CAN JUST LEAVE IT BECAUSE AT SOME POINT SOMEBODY WILL SAY SOMETHING TO ME.

IF THERE IS AN INTERRUPTION IN THE OPERATION OF THE VIDEO CAMERA FOR ANY REASON, ANY EMPLOYEE OR SAID EMPLOYEE WILL REPORT IN GOOD FAITH TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.

DID YOU GET THAT BUD? UH, I HAVE DOWN WHERE WE CHANGED IT TO TECHNOLOGY.

UM, DIRECTOR, UH, YOU WANTED TO ADD IN GOOD FAITH WHERE, READ THAT THROUGH ONE MORE TIME.

OH, I WAS JUST TRYING TO SIMPLIFY IT FOR YOU.

OKAY.

OKAY.

SORRY.

UM, IF THERE IS AN INTERRUPTION IN THE OPERATION OF THE VIDEO CAMERA FOR ANY REASON SHALL BE REPORTED IN GOOD FAITH TO WE WANTED REPORTED TO THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT.

IS THAT WHO WE WANTED TO PAR REPORTED TO? IT SHOULD GO TO THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES THAT, I MEAN, TECHNOLOGY'S THE ONE THAT'S GONNA REPLACE 'EM.

WELL, I THOUGHT THAT'S WHAT WE WERE CHANGING IT TO, BUT I JUST WANTED TO, TO MAKE SURE SUPERINTENDENT RIGHT.

JUST THAT, THAT A REPORT.

I DON'T WHAT ABOUT LIKE, DO THEY NEED EXPLAIN THE REASON IN IT'S REPORTED BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT GONNA KNOW.

I FEEL LIKE THAT'S, I FEEL LIKE IT'S GETTING A LITTLE BURDENSOME.

LIKE JUST, HEY, IT'S BROKEN.

YEAH.

CAN WE GET THIS FIXED? CAME ACROSS THE CAMERA WASN'T WORK AND WE PUT IN A TECHNOLOGY WORK ORDER AND RUM FIXES IT WITHIN 24 HOURS.

SIMPLIFY IT.

SO JUST IF THERE IS AN INTERRUPTION IN THE OPERATION OF THE VIDEO CAMERA FOR ANY REASON, THAT WILL BE REPORTED TO THE SUPERINTENDENT DONE IT.

OR TO HIS DESIGNEE, WHICH WOULD BE THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT IN THAT CASE.

.

YEAH, I LIKE THAT.

OR DESIGNEE.

OR DESIGNEE, WHICH WOULD BE THE YES.

VISIT.

YES.

BUT YOU SAID OUR CAMERAS ARE SELF-MONITORING.

LIKE I KNOW WITH OUR HOME CAMERAS, IF ONE GOES DOWN, IT SENDS US AN ALERT THAT SAYS THIS CAMERA IS OFFLINE, OR THIS CAMERA IS DEAD, OR THIS CAMERA IS, BUT OURS DO DO THAT OR OURS DO NOT DO THAT.

OURS DO NOT DO THAT.

OKAY.

JUST I SEE YOU.

OKAY.

WAIT.

SO WE DO GET NOTIFIED OR WE DON'T BECAUSE BEHIND YOU WAS A NO SHAKING HEAD.

DOES HE SAYING SOMETHING DIFFERENT? , MAYBE WE BETTER GET THAT .

LET'S GET THE PROS OUT HERE.

THE CAMERAS NOT NOTIFIED US.

THEY DON'T.

OKAY.

WE CAN MONITOR THEM WITH ANOTHER SYSTEM THAT WE HAVE, BUT IT'LL ONLY TELL US A POWER.

IT WON'T TELL US A OBSTRUCTION OR IF THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG.

OKAY.

I FEEL LIKE WE SAID THE SAME THING.

CONNECTION IS NOT THERE, BUT YES, HE'S CORRECT IF THE SENSOR IS LOCKED OR NOT WORKING.

.

AND NORMALLY IF SOMETHING

[02:25:01]

LIKE THIS GOES OUT, TRADITIONALLY A WORK ORDER WOULD BE SENDING A TECHNOLOGY WORK ORDER AND JESSE AND DOUG AND HIS GUYS NORMALLY HAVE IT FIXED WITHIN 24 HOURS.

OKAY.

I MEAN, I'M JUST GONNA TRUST YOU GUYS ARE DOING YOUR JOBS .

YOU ALWAYS ARE TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITIES.

SO THANK YOU.

OKAY.

IS THERE A MOTION I MOVE THAT THE WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES POLICY JOAA CLASSROOM VIDEO SURVEILLANCE AS AMENDED? IS THERE A SECOND ON THAT? I'LL SECOND.

ANY ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

THANK YOU MR. SMITH.

AYE.

THANK YOU.

NEXT

[5.D. Approval of two additional Winter Track Assistant Coaches, One at Each High School - Mr. Lee]

UP WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF TWO ADDITIONAL WINTER TRACK ASSISTANT COACHES, ONE AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL, MR. LEE.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS ARE AWARE, UM, OUR HIGH SCHOOLS HAVE RECENTLY PICKED UP WINTER TRACK.

SO NOW WE HAVE CROSS COUNTRY IN THE FALL, WINTER TRACK IN THE WINTER OF COURSE.

AND THEN, UH, SPRING SEASON IS THE TRADITIONAL TRACK AND FIELD SEASON.

SO, UM, WE'VE BEEN COVERING THAT WITH ONE COACH AND OUR TRACK KIDS OR OUR TRACK NUMBERS, UH, STUDENT ATHLETE NUMBERS.

OUR, OUR INCREASING, UM, EACH YEAR BY, YOU KNOW, 10 TO 15, UH, AT BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS.

SO BOTH ATHLETIC DIRECTORS HAVE ASKED FOR AN ADDITIONAL COACH, UM, TO ASSIST THE HEAD COACH.

UH, 'CAUSE AS YOU KNOW, TRACK IS A INDIVIDUAL SPORT IN, IN, IN MOST CASES.

UM, SO THAT WOULD ALLOW, YOU KNOW, THE TRACK COACHES TO BE ABLE TO SPECIALIZE WITH, WITH THOSE INDIVIDUAL ATHLETES AND, YOU KNOW, KIND OF BE IN TWO PLACES AT ONCE.

UM, SO THAT'S THE, THAT'S THE IDEA BEHIND THAT.

UM, IN ORDER TO, YOU KNOW, FOR OUR TRACK ATHLETES TO CONTINUE TO, TO THRIVE FROM SEASON TO SEASON, UH, TO SEASON.

SO, UM, AGAIN, AND THIS, THIS IS, THIS IS SOMETHING BOTH ATHLETIC DIRECTORS HAVE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR OVER AT LEAST THE, THE LAST YEAR ABOUT.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR MR. LEE, SARAH MOTION? UH, YES.

MADAM CHAIR.

I MOVE THAT THE WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVE TWO ADDITIONAL WINTER ASSISTANT TRACK AND FIELD ASSISTANT COACHES ONE FOR EACH HIGH SCHOOL.

IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND? ANY DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

THANK YOU MR. LEE.

THANK YOU.

NEXT UP

[5.E. Purchase of Network Switches for SMS - Mr. Stefnoski]

WE HAVE THE PURCHASE OF NETWORK SWITCHES FOR SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, MR. STEFANSKI, AND GOOD EVENING, I'M HERE TO REQUEST YOU APPROVE, UH, THE PURCHASE OF NETWORK SWITCHES FOR SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND RELATED SERVICES TO INSTALL THOSE SWITCHES IN THE AMOUNT OF $94,429 AND 86 CENTS.

WE'VE HAD THE, UH, SWITCHES THAT ARE IN THE BUILDING NOW SINCE 2012.

AND GENERALLY SWITCHES GET REPLACED EVERY FIVE TO EIGHT YEARS.

SO THE EQUIPMENT WE HAVE IS NOT ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT WE NEED NOW.

AND THIS IS PART OF THE E-RATE PROGRAM? YES.

AND SO E-RATE PAYS WHAT PORTION? E-RATE IS GONNA PAY 70% OF THE COST.

OKAY.

SO THIS, THIS IS 30% OF THE COST.

YEP.

AND THIS IS ALREADY IN THE TECHNOLOGY BUDGET? UM, YES, I BELIEVE THIS IS PART OF THE TECHNOLOGY BUDGET.

ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS FOR MR. KY? IS THERE A MOTION I MOVE THAT THE APPROVAL BE GIVEN TO PURCHASE NETWORK SWITCHING EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES FOR SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE AMOUNT OF $94,429 AND 86 CENTS? IS THERE A SECOND? A SECOND? ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? UM, JUST A KIND OF A SIDE THOUGHT.

UM, WE'RE GONNA NEED TO INCREASE OUR TECHNOLOGY BUDGET WITH ALL THIS AGING EQUIPMENT.

ARE WE NOT? IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE ON OUR, ON OUR MINDS FOR IN THE FUTURE? IS THAT I I WOULD JUST SO WE'RE NOT BLINDSIDED.

YES.

I I WOULD, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

SO YEAH, SO, SO WE'RE GETTING READY TO GO INTO BUDGET SEASON, RIGHT? YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I WAS.

AND SO BRING IT UP NOW.

THAT'S WHEN EVERYBODY'S GONNA SEND US THEIR WISHLIST.

OKAY.

AND, UH, WE'LL WORK THROUGH THAT.

AND THEN, UM, YOU KNOW, OF COURSE I WOULD, I WOULD LOVE TO PRESENT EVERYBODY'S WISHLIST TO, YOU KNOW, TO OUR LOCALITY.

BUT I KNOW THAT THAT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WILL BE ABLE TO HAPPEN, RIGHT? YEAH.

BUT, BUT YES.

SO WE HAVE ACTUALLY, UM, AS A DIVISION, WE HAVE YOU, WE HAVE REPLACED QUITE A BIT OF STUFF AND MOVED OUR DIVISION INTO JUST, YOU KNOW, IN 2020.

WE

[02:30:01]

WERE NOT ONE-TO-ONE, RIGHT? WE DID NOT HAVE FULL ONE-TO-ONE DEVICES FOR EVERYBODY.

WE DO.

UM, WE NEED TO HAVE THAT REPLACEMENT CYCLE.

MM-HMM.

.

UM, WE GOT A LITTLE BIT BEHIND THIS YEAR ON THE CHROMEBOOKS AND HAD TO ORDER 796.

WAS THAT THE NUMBER OR, YEAH, THAT SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT.

I, I REMEMBER IT WAS ABOUT THAT NUMBER, BUT, UH, BUT WE HAD TO ORDER THOSE ADDITIONAL CHROMEBOOKS.

SO WE DO NEED TO GET THAT CYCLE IN PLACE WHERE WE ARE.

WE ARE REPLACING THOSE CHROMEBOOKS EVERY YEAR.

UM, AND THEN ALSO WE DO STILL HAVE SOME, SOME SCHOOLS WITH SOME ANTIQUATED OR THE, THE OLDER MODEL CAMERAS, UM, YOU KNOW, THOSE DO NEED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL.

SO THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS THAT YES, I WILL AGREE THAT, YOU KNOW, NOT JUST WITH TECHNOLOGY, BUT WITH A LOT OF THINGS WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE'RE UPDATING AND KEEPING, KEEPING THEM TOPNOTCH MOVING FORWARD.

ANY ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION ON THIS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

THANK YOU MR. STIFF.

THANK YOU.

AND LAST

[Additional Item 1]

ON OUR ACTION ITEMS THIS EVENING IS THE APPROVAL OF AN ADDITIONAL, UH, MY GOODNESS ADDITIONAL TEACHER AT HILDA J BARBER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

SO LAST YEAR WE, WE MOVED, UM, A COUPLE OF TEACHERS FROM HILDA TO REISS BECAUSE OUR NUMBERS AT HILDA, UH, WERE GOING DOWN AND OUR NUMBERS AT REISS, WERE GOING UP.

UH, WE DO HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN WHAT'S CALLED THE K THREE CLASS SIZE AUDIT.

UM, LAST YEAR IT DINGED US OVER AT SYS BECAUSE WE HAD HIGH NUMBERS.

UM, WHAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR WAS THE CLASS THAT WE MOVED THE TEACHERS OUT OF THE TOTAL LAST YEAR WAS 60.

THERE WERE 63 STUDENTS.

UM, AND SO THERE WERE FOUR TEACHERS.

SO WE MOVED ONE THAT GAVE THEM THREE, WELL, IT BUMPED IT TO NOW THERE'S 73 74 STUDENTS IN THAT SAME GRADE BAND.

AND SO WE INCREASED BY 10 TO 12 STUDENTS, WHICH NOW HAVE TWO CLASSES THAT ARE ONE STUDENT OVER THE THRESHOLD THAT WE'RE ALLOWED TO BY OUR SOQ.

UM, AND SO THE, THE OPTION IS EITHER TAKE A HIT ON OUR K THREE CLASS SIZE REVENUE THAT WE WOULD RECEIVE IN OR TRY TO GET SOMEBODY IN THERE BY DECEMBER 1ST.

UM, SO, UH, WE ARE, WE ARE GOING TO TRY TO GET SOMEBODY IN THERE BY DECEMBER 1ST.

I KNOW I WAS TALKING TO MR. LEE EARLIER TODAY.

HE SAID THAT HE ALREADY HAS SOMEBODY THAT THEY HAVE BEEN TALKING TO.

UM, SO WE'RE HOPING THAT'S GONNA WORK OUT.

UM, AND I DID TALK TO THE PRINCIPAL OUT AT, UM, UH, WITH MS. TAUBENBERGER CONCERNING, UM, WHAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO DO.

AND SHE SAID SHE WOULD GO AHEAD AND LIKE TO SPLIT THE CLASSES, UH, STARTING IN DECEMBER OR JANUARY SO THAT, YOU KNOW, THEY, THEY MEET THAT CLASS SIZE NUMBER.

ANY QUESTIONS FOR DR.

BALLINGER ON THAT? IS THERE A MOTION? UH, YES MA'AM.

CHAIR.

I MOVE THAT APPROVAL BE GIVEN TO HIRE AN ADDITIONAL TEACHER AT HILDA J BARBER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND? ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

RIGHT.

THAT ENDS US FOR OUR ACTION AGENDA FOR THIS EVENING.

[Additional Item 2]
