[2.C. Attendance Award Presentation]

NEXT UP WE HAVE ATTENDANCE AWARD PRESENTATIONS, DR.

BALLINGER.

THANK YOU, MADAM CHAIR.

UM, SO FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, ALTHOUGH WE HAD A, A SHORTENED, UH, MONTH, WE DID HAVE OUR THANKSGIVING BREAK TIED IN THERE.

UM, I WOULD LIKE TO, UH, PRESENT FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE AWARD, UM, IS AS ROADS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THEY HAD AN ATTENDANCE, UH, RATE OF 94.7%.

SO IF MS. LEHMAN AND HER CREW WOULD LIKE TO COME UP.

HELLO, MADAM CHAIR BOARD MEMBERS, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECOGNIZING US FOR OUR ATTENDANCE.

UM, I DO HAVE SOME STUDENTS HERE WITH US AND A STAFF MEMBER.

SO WE HAVE CAMBRIAN, TRENTON COOK HERE, AND WE ALSO HAVE JACKSON AND AMANDA ROBINSON.

I ALSO WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR MAKING ATTENDANCE A PRIORITY.

UM, WITHOUT THAT EFFORT, WE OBVIOUSLY WOULDN'T BE HERE.

UM, AND THANKS TO OUR STAFF MEMBERS FOR CREATING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO ATTEND SCHOOL ON A REGULAR BASIS.

UM, WE ALSO WANTED TO CONGRATULATE MRS. REY AND MRS. GLADYS'S KINDERGARTEN CLASS FOR HAVING 95% OR HIGHER ATTENDANCE EVERY WEEK IN NOVEMBER.

AND THAT CAN BE ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT IN KINDERGARTEN WHERE THEY SEEM TO CATCH EVERY COLD AND EVERY, UM, ILLNESS THAT GOES AROUND.

AND ALSO, OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR, MRS. O WADE, SHE SPOKE HERE, UM, ANOTHER TIME WHEN WE ACCEPTED THE AWARD.

UM, BUT SHE DOES CREATE SOME FUN INCENTIVES FOR STUDENTS.

SHE DOES A WHEEL OF ATTENDANCE DRAWING.

SO STUDENTS WITH PERFECT ATTENDANCE, THEIR NAME GOES ON A WHEEL, SHE SPINS THE WHEEL, AND THEY, UM, CAN COME DOWN.

EACH WEEK SHE DOES THE WHEEL OF ATTENDANCE AND IT'S A STUDENT FROM EVERY CLASS.

SO, UM, THAT'S JUST A FUN LITTLE TREAT FOR THEM.

AND ALSO, WE WANTED TO THANK PLAY FAVORITES, UM, FOR PARTNERING WITH US TO RECOGNIZE PERFECT ATTENDANCE.

THEY ARE PROVIDING 30 MINUTE FREE ARCADE TIME TO A PARENT AND THE STUDENT AND A FRIEND.

SO, UM, EVERYONE WHO HAD PERFECT ATTENDANCE FOR NOVEMBER RECEIVED ONE OF THOSE CERTIFICATES.

AND THEN WE'LL ALSO CONTINUE THAT IN DECEMBER.

AND WE HAD 80 STUDENTS OUT OF ABOUT 250 WITH PERFECT ATTENDANCE FOR NOVEMBER.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM.

AND I KNOW OUR STUDENTS, UM, WANTED TO SAY A FEW WORDS TO YOU ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND WHY THAT'S IMPORTANT.

SO, AMANDA, IT'S OKAY.

I'LL HEAR YOU.

YOU SHOULD GO TO SCHOOL TO LEARN.

YOU MIGHT MISS SOMETHING

[00:05:01]

FUN OR IMPORTANT.

I HAVE THE BEST TEACHER AND SHE DOES SOME REALLY FUN THINGS.

I DON'T WANT TO MISS SCHOOL.

GOOD CAM, SHE HAS TWO NOTES PARTS.

IT'S A PART 10 TO GO TO SCHOOL.

IT'S GOOD FOR KIDS FOR EVERY DAY.

IT'S NOT GOOD TO MISS SCHOOL.

YOU'LL MISS SOMETHING FUN TO DO.

I THINK GOING TO SCHOOL IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT FUN LEARNING ACTIVITY YOU MIGHT MISS.

ALSO GOING TO SCHOOL IS GOOD BECAUSE YOU GET TO SEE ALL, SEE YOUR FRIENDS.

IF YOU'RE NOT AT SCHOOL, YOU'RE NOT LEARNING.

I, I LIKE GOING TO SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE FUN TEACHERS.

AND I JUST WANTED TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY RUNNING, WALKING CLUB, UM, WHICH ALSO GETS KIDS TO COME TO SCHOOL.

SO I STARTED THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

UM, OVER THE SUMMER I HAD SENT OUT THE, UM, INVITE LIST AND I HAD ONE PERSON ALL SUMMER ON THAT LIST.

AND AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, I ENDED UP HAVING 15 KIDS THAT SIGNED UP, 10 REGULARS THAT WOULD COME ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS TO RUN SLASH WALK WITH ME OUT ON OUR BLUE TOP IN OUR BASKETBALL AREA OR IN THE PE BUILDING.

IT WAS TOO COLD.

UM, I CURRENTLY NOW HAVE 29 SIGNED UP, AND AT LEAST 19 OF THOSE ARE GONNA BE REGULAR KIDS THAT COME EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY.

I'VE GOT TWO PARENTS THAT ATTEND AS WELL.

ONE IS A TEACHER AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND THEN ONE'S JUST A PARENT THAT LIKES TO COME AND WALK WITH US AS WELL.

UM, I'VE NOTICED THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS.

JACKSON IS FANTASTIC WITH THE LITTLE KINDERGARTNERS THAT COME THROUGH AND HE HELPS THEM FEEL COMFORTABLE.

WE DO OUR STRETCHES IN THE BEGINNING.

WE DO OUR STRETCHES AT THE END, AND WE JUST HAVE A GREAT TIME TOGETHER TO EXERCISE OUR BODIES AND THEN GO TO THE CLASS AND FOCUS ON LEARNING.

THANK YOU.

PERFECT.

AND FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, OUR SECONDARY SCHOOL WITH 94.01%, UM, IS WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AS YOU SAW HOW QUICK I WAS TO GET UP HERE, I'M SUPER EXCITED TO GET OUR SECONDARY ATTENDANCE AWARD BACK.

UH, I THINK IT'S A GREAT RECOGNITION FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR TEACHERS.

I ASKED TWO STUDENTS THIS AFTERNOON, UH, WHY THEY COME TO SCHOOL REGULARLY AND THEY GAVE ME KIND OF THE TYPICAL MIDDLE SCHOOL ANSWERS.

UH, THEY SAID I COME TO SCHOOL TO LEARN, BUT MAINLY TO HANG OUT WITH MY FRIENDS.

SEE MY FAVORITE TEACHERS HELP OUT AROUND THE SCHOOL AND HELP MAKE THE SCHOOL A BETTER PLACE.

UH, AS A SCHOOL, I THINK WE'RE, UH, DOING A GREAT JOB ENCOURAGING STUDENT ATTENDANCE IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.

UH, FOR EXAMPLE, THIS MONTH WE'RE HAVING A HOLIDAY SPIRIT MONTH WHERE EACH DAY HAS BEEN DESIGNATED A SPIRIT DAY, ALSO WITH A KINDNESS CHALLENGE.

SO TODAY'S SPIRIT DAY WAS TO WEAR PLAID AND THE KINDNESS CHALLENGE WAS TO MAKE A HOLIDAY GREETING CARD, UH, FOR A NURSING HOME RESIDENT.

AND THOSE CARDS WILL BE DELIVERED TOMORROW, UH, TO SOME, UH, RESIDENTS AT HIDDEN SPRINGS SENIOR LIVING CENTER.

UH, TOMORROW'S SPIRIT DAY IS WHERE, UH, YOUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS BLING, UH, IN THE KINDNESS CHALLENGE IS TO PICK UP TRASH WITHOUT BEING ASKED.

THAT WILL DEFINITELY BE A CHALLENGE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

UH, .

UH, WE'RE ALSO PLANNING A SPECIAL ACTIVITY ON THE LAST DAY BEFORE BREAK, UH, FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WHO HAVE PERFECT ATTENDANCE IN DECEMBER.

UH, WE HAVE A LOT OF, UH, JUST A, AS AN UPDATE, WE HAVE A LOT OF SCHOOL EVENTS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

LAST NIGHT WE HAD OUR STEM NIGHT.

WE HAD ABOUT 200, UH, PEOPLE THERE.

UH, I LEFT, UH, UH, OUR WINTER BAND CONCERT TO COME HERE AND THE COMMONS WAS PACKED.

SO IF YOU CAN PICTURE OUR COMMONS, WE PROBABLY HAD 300 5400 PEOPLE IN THERE.

UM, WE HAD 300 SEATS SET UP AND THEY WERE ALL TAKEN.

AND WE HAD STANDING ROOM ONLY, UH, ON SATURDAY.

UH, THE NINTH IS OUR CHORUS CONCERT AT WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AT THREE O'CLOCK NEXT TUESDAY, UH, WE'RE HAVING OUR THEATER ARTS AND VISUAL ARTS SHOWCASE, UH, AT WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL

[00:10:01]

FROM FIVE TO SIX 30 ON WEDNESDAY THE 13TH.

WE'RE HOSTING, UH, REACHING OUT NOW'S DECEMBER, FAMILY NIGHT OUT WITH THE THEME OF HOLIDAY GIVING AND CHEER.

UH, AND THEN LOOKING AHEAD, WE'RE PLANNING, UH, A TALENT SHOW IN, UH, JANUARY.

AND WE ARE HAVING, UH, THE KIDS ARE EXCITED ABOUT HAVING A DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT THAT WE'RE DOING FOR AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION.

UH, BUT WE ENJOY WORKING WITH OUR STUDENTS, UH, AND WE HOPE IT SHOWS.

SO THANK YOU.

NOW FOR OUR MOST IMPROVED, UM, THIS IS, UM, A SCHOOL THAT, THAT YOU HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE AS FAR AS GETTING ONE OF THESE AWARDS.

AND, UM, WE, UH, WE ALWAYS LIKE TO KID AROUND.

UM, YOU KNOW, THE ADMINISTRATOR THERE IS, UH, LIGHTHEARTED AND, AND DOES A GREAT JOB.

AND, YOU KNOW, WE, WE POKE FUN AT EACH OTHER EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE.

BUT IT WAS, UM, YOU KNOW, WHEN, WHEN I SENT THE NOTIFICATION OUT, UM, THAT WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, UH, WAS THE MOST IMPROVED WITH THE AN IMPROVEMENT RATE OVER THE PREVIOUS MONTH OF 1.19% MR. KSH SENT BACK.

WAS THAT A TYPO? UM, SO, SO I WANT TO, I WANT TO, I WANT , I WANT TO RECOGNIZE WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AS OUR MOST IMPROVED THIS NIGHT, RECEIVING THEIR FIRST ATTENDANCE AWARD.

AND MR. KADESH, THANK YOU FOR THE SYMPATHY VOTE.

I APPRECIATE IT.

.

UH, WE JUST WANNA SAY THANK YOU TO OUR STAFF AND OUR STUDENTS.

UH, THIS MONTH'S ATTENDANCE INITIATIVE, THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL BEFORE THE BREAK, WE ALWAYS HAVE A HOLIDAY SINGALONG.

SO WE SPEND ABOUT AN HOUR WITH 800 TEENAGERS IN AN AUDITORIUM SINGING CHRISTMAS SONGS.

AND EVERY DAY THAT THEY'RE THERE, THEY GET A TICKET AND THEY GET TO VOTE ON WHICH ADMINISTRATOR OR TEACHER THEY'RE GOING TO PIE AT THAT ASSEMBLY.

UM, SO, AND, UH, ONE OF THE STUDENTS GETS TO DO THE ACTUAL PIEING.

THEY COME UP ON THE STAGE AND PIE SOMEBODY.

SO MR. BROWN GOT IT LAST YEAR.

UM, MAYBE MISS NORA THIS YEAR, .

UM, AND THEN WE ALSO DO AN UGLY SWEATER CONTEST AND DO SOME THINGS.

SO WE BELIEVE IN INVITING EVERYBODY TO THE PARTY, BUT THEN ALLOWING SOME EXTRA INITIATIVES FOR ATTENDANCE SO THAT WE DON'T NECESSARILY SAY, YOU CAN'T COME TO THIS BECAUSE OF THIS OR THAT, WE WANT EVERYBODY TO COME TO THAT.

BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF EVENTS COMING UP ON THE NINTH.

WE HAVE SEVERAL THINGS MS. NORA'S GONNA TELL YOU ABOUT ONE OF THE BIG THINGS WE HAVE ON DECEMBER 9TH.

WE HAVE OUR HOLIDAY BAZAAR.

IT'S OUR THIRD ANNUAL, IT'S OUR BIGGEST, WE HAVE 40 VENDORS COMING.

IT'S FROM 10:00 AM TO 2:00 PM WE WILL HAVE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH SOLD BY OUR DECA GROUP, UM, FREE HOT CHOCOLATE HOLIDAY MUSIC, UH, A VISIT FROM SANTA AND MRS. CLAUS FROM 11 TO ONE.

AND WE'RE JUST REALLY EXCITED.

WE HOPE YOU ALL COME OUT AND JOIN US FOR SOME FUN AND ACTIVITIES.

AND, AND, UH, DECA IS GIVING AWAY A FREE, UH, SANDWICH ENTREE FOR ANYONE WHO BRINGS A TOY FOR TOYS FOR TOTS.

SO IF YOU BRING A TOY, UH, YOU'LL GET A FREE MEAL.

ALSO ON THE NINTH IS OUR CHORUS CONCERT AT THREE.

DR. JOHNSTON TALKED ABOUT THAT.

WE'RE ACTUALLY DOING A COMBINED CHORUS CONCERT WITH WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

ALSO, ON THE NINTH, OUR ONE ACT THEATER COMPETITION, UH, THEY'RE COMPETING AT THE STATE LEVEL FOR A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AT MONTICELLO HIGH SCHOOL IN CHARLOTTESVILLE.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THE 17TH IS OUR BIG BAND CONCERT, AND THAT'S AT THREE O'CLOCK.

AND I THINK THAT'S ABOUT IT.

WE, WE HAVE A BASKETBALL GAME RIGHT NOW, SO WE'RE GONNA GO OVER TO THAT.

BUT THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.

APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU.

WE DON'T EVEN HAVE NEVER EVEN THOUGHT, YOU KNOW WHAT, I'LL JUST PUT IT ON THE BULLET.

WE'RE TALKING.

OKAY.

[2.D. School Reports - Dr. Ballenger]

NEXT UP THIS EVENING, WE HAVE SCHOOL REPORTS.

DR.

BALLINGER.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

UM, I WOULD FIRST LIKE TO RECOGNIZE, UH, MS. MCDONALD, UM, HER, HER, HER GROUP.

HER GROUP.

[00:15:08]

AND COLIN, I HAVE MY SHIRT RIGHT HERE.

.

OH, I LIKE THAT.

OKAY.

HE DID SAY, WHERE'S HIS SHIRT? I, I DO HAVE MY SHIRT.

GOOD EVENING.

GOOD EVENING.

OH YEAH, .

TONIGHT WE HAVE COLIN MILLER, OUR TRANSITION COORDINATOR.

WE HAVE KATIE PRIEST, OUR ELEMENTS TEACHER, AND WE HAVE OUR CAC LEADER AND TRANSITION COORDINATOR FOR SPELLING HIGH SCHOOL.

SARAH.

UM, WE DO HAVE GIFTS.

GIFTS FOR YOU GUYS.

UM, YOU'RE GONNA EXPLAIN WHAT YOU'RE GIVING THEM.

YES.

OKAY.

AND THEY WILL START THAT MEETING.

HOW ARE Y'ALL DOING TONIGHT? GOOD.

I, WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IN FRONT OF YOU IS A UNDETERMINED T-SHIRT.

WHEN YOU SEE US ALL WEARING THOSE, IT'S A STATE DIRECTED PROGRAM FROM VDOE.

IT'S CALLED THE UNDETERMINED PROJECT.

AND IT HELPS US BRING SELF-DETERMINATION IN THE CLASSROOMS. IT WAS ORIGINALLY MADE FOR, UH, SPECIAL EDUCATION, BUT IT IS MO IT'S A BIG INITIATIVE FROM VDOE TO BRING IT TO OUR GEN ED.

'CAUSE WE FEEL, YOU KNOW, WITH THAT COLLABORATION WITH GEN ED AND SPECIAL ED, THAT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

SO THAT IS ONE THING.

AND, AND WHEN I WAS, I CREATED, AND YOU'RE GONNA HEAR ABOUT ELEMENTS AND I'M DETERMINED PROGRAM, I'LL LET THE VIDEO SORT OF SPEAK FOR ITSELF AND KATIE PRIEST.

BUT WHEN I WAS, UM, FIRST INTERVIEWED FOR THIS POSITION, I'VE BEEN A SPECIAL EDUCATOR HERE FOR OVER 22 YEARS.

AND I FELT THAT WE NEEDED, ONE OF THE NEEDS WE IDENTIFIED WAS A POST-SECONDARY PROGRAM.

AND WHAT THAT IS, IS OUR STUDENTS A LITTLE BIT IN THE VIDEO THAT YOU GRADUATE WITH AN APPLIED STUDIES DIPLOMA.

AND THESE ARE STUDENTS THAT JUST NEED A LITTLE EXTRA PUSH, SOME WORK READINESS SKILLS TO BE PUT IN THE COMMUNITY AND WORK AND GET JOBS.

SO THROUGH THAT WE GO DO INTERNSHIPS, JOB SHADOWING, WE HAVE A WORK READINESS LAB, THAT'S WHAT WE CALL OUR CLASSROOM.

THERE, YOU GET THE SKILLS NEEDED AND JUST A LITTLE EXTRA PUSH FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT CAN USUALLY NAVIGATE OUR, UM, COMMUNITY INDEPENDENTLY.

AND WE FEEL JUST NEED A LITTLE EXTRA TIME TO GET THAT JOB.

SO THAT HAS BEEN, UM, WHEN I CREATED, WE PICKED, UH, KATIE AS OUR TEACHER.

AND SO I SORT OF GAVE HER MY VISION AND SHE OF COURSE TOOK IT AND JUST BLEW IT OUTTA THE WATER.

AND SHE DOES A GREAT JOB WITH THAT.

AND SO WITH THE UNDETERMINED SHIRTS, OUR SKYLINE, UM, HIGH SCHOOL CLASSROOM, UM, SARAH GRIFFITH, HER CLASSROOM DESIGNED A T-SHIRT AND SHE SET UP WITH A GROUP AND, UM, IN RICHMOND AND THEY DECIDED TO MAKE THE T-SHIRT, THE STATE T-SHIRT.

SO WE WENT TO A ASPIRE EDUCATOR SYMPOSIUM IN VIRGINIA BEACH IN NOVEMBER.

AND SO EVERYBODY IN THE STATE THAT'S DOING, I'M DETERMINED IN THEIR SCHOOLS, IS REPRESENTING THIS SHIRT THAT WAS MADE RIGHT HERE, WAS DESIGNED RIGHT HERE FOR, FOR WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF THAT.

SO WITH THAT, I'LL INTRODUCE, UH, KATIE PRIEST AND SHE'S GONNA INTRODUCE ELEMENTS AND HOW WE'RE DOING.

I'M DETERMINED IN WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

THANK YOU.

HEY, GOOD EVENING.

I'M KATIE PRIEST.

I AM THE TEACHER FOR THE ELEMENTS PROGRAM.

UM, I'M ALSO A TEAM MEMBER OF THE UNDETERMINED TEAM.

UH, LAST TIME I SPOKE TO YOU WAS ABOUT FIVE OR SIX YEARS AGO WHEN WE FIRST STARTED THE ELEMENTS PROGRAM.

WE WERE BRAND NEW AND WE WERE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT PROGRAM WAS GONNA LOOK LIKE.

AND SIX YEARS LATER WE ARE HERE.

WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY AND I'M REALLY PROUD OF WHAT ELEMENTS HAS BECOME AND I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT WHERE WE'RE TAKING IT IN THE FUTURE.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING IN THE FUTURE IS THE UNDETERMINED PROJECT.

UM, I MADE A LITTLE VIDEO, I PROMISE IT'S ONLY ABOUT THREE MINUTES LONG, .

AND IT TALKS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, UM, WHAT ELEMENTS IS DOING AND WHAT THE UNDETERMINED PROJECT IS.

SO WE CAN ELEMENTS IS AN EXTENSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, MEETING EVERYONE'S NEEDS, TALENTS, AND STRENGTHS.

ALTHOUGH ELEMENTS IS PART OF WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, WE ARE UNLIKE ANY OTHER CLASS IN THE COUNTY.

ELEMENTS IS THE TRANSITION PROGRAM FOR WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND IS DESIGNED TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN HIGH SCHOOL AND ADULTHOOD ELEMENTS.

STUDENTS HAVE ALREADY GRADUATED WITH AN APPLIED STUDIES DIPLOMA IN MY PROGRAM.

THEY ARE GIVEN THE EXTRA INSTRUCTIONAL TIME THEY NEED TO BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT ADULTS.

ELEMENTS IS A TWO TO FOUR YEAR PROGRAM WHERE MY STUDENTS FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THEIR INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS AND THEIR JOB READINESS SKILLS.

THE ELEMENTS PROGRAM IS TAILORED TO MEET THE SPECIFIC NEEDS AND STRENGTHS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT IN ELEMENTS WE LEARN BY DOING ELEMENTS.

STUDENTS WORK AT VARIOUS JOB SITES ON CAMPUS AND IN THE COMMUNITY.

[00:20:01]

THEY'RE LEARNING AND PRACTICING VALUABLE WORKPLACE AND SOCIAL SKILLS.

A LARGE PART OF ELEMENTS IS COMMUNITY-BASED INSTRUCTION.

OUR STUDENTS OFTEN LEARN IN AN AUTHENTIC ENVIRONMENT RATHER THAN SITTING IN A CLASSROOM.

THEY ARE IN THEIR COMMUNITY PRACTICING FUNCTIONAL SKILLS LIKE MATH, READING, SOCIAL SKILLS, AND OTHER INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS.

MY STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON ADULT LIVING SKILLS, LIKE COOKING AND CLEANING, EARNING THEIR DRIVER'S LICENSE, OR LEARNING HOW TO USE LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ELEMENTS.

STUDENTS ARE LEARNING HOW TO STAY HEALTHY AND ACTIVE.

NEW TO ELEMENTS THIS YEAR IS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UNDETERMINED PROJECT THROUGH THE OM DETERMINED PROJECT.

MY STUDENTS ARE LEARNING WAYS TO SELF-REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS.

THEY'RE LEARNING HOW TO SELF-ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES.

THEY'RE SETTING GOALS AND WORKING TOWARDS THEM.

THEY'RE LEARNING TO BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND WHAT THEY'RE CAPABLE OF ACCOMPLISHING.

THE UNDETERMINED PROJECT IS A STATE DIRECTED PROJECT FUNDED BY THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

IT AIMS TO EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE, INCLUDING THOSE WITH DISABILITIES BY TEACHING THEM CRUCIAL SKILLS RELATED TO SELF-DETERMINATION.

THROUGH THIS PROJECT, YOUTH ARE GIVEN THE TOOLS, GUIDANCE, AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO TAKE CHARGE OF THEIR OWN LIVES.

THEY LEARN HOW TO SET GOALS, MAKE DECISIONS, AND NAVIGATE THEIR OWN PATHS INSTEAD OF JUST GOING ALONG FOR THE RIDE.

IT'S TRULY INSPIRING TO SEE HOW THIS PROJECT IS TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF THESE INCREDIBLE INDIVIDUALS.

IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TO SEE MY STUDENTS WORKING TOWARDS THEIR TRUE POTENTIAL AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THEY BECOME IN THE FUTURE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

UM, I JUST WANTED TO KNOW ANY, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ELEMENTS OR THE UNDETERMINED PROGRAM? ALRIGHT, WELL, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME THIS EVENING.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR COMING.

AND NEXT WE HAVE HILDA J BARBER.

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE.

UM, WE WANTED TO TAKE A MINUTE TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT SOME, UM, REALLY GREAT THINGS THAT OUR FIFTH GRADE HAS BEEN DOING.

AND WE HAVE SOME STUDENTS HERE TO SHOW YOU AND EXPLAIN TO YOU.

AND ONE OF THE NEAT THINGS THAT THEY REALLY GOT TO EXPERIENCE WAS FLYING.

THEY WENT ON A FIELD TRIP TO IFLY AND THEY'D LIKE TO SHARE SOME OF THAT WITH YOU.

MY NAME IS AMY MOYER AND I TEACH FIFTH GRADE AT TOGE BARBER.

AND WITH ME IS LORI COCKRELL, WHO ALSO TEACHES WITH ME.

UM, AND WE HAVE SEVERAL STUDENTS HERE TODAY TO TALK ABOUT SOME FUN THINGS THAT WE DO IN OUR SCHOOL.

UM, WE DO A LOT OF AWESOME THINGS AT HILDA, BUT JUST A FEW THAT WE'RE A PART OF SPECIFICALLY.

SO, UM, FIRST I'D LIKE TO SHARE THAT WE HAVE AN EARLY ACT CLUB.

UM, OUR EARLY ACT CLUB IS SPONSORED BY THE ROTARY CLUB OF FRONT ROYAL.

UH, WE HAVE 36 STUDENTS IN OUR CLUB AND IT'S JUST, UM, MS. COUGHRAN I THAT SPONSOR IT.

UM, SO WE'RE WITH THAT LARGE GROUP ONCE A MONTH.

UM, WE HAVE DONE, UH, SEVERAL COMMUNITY PROJECTS AND JOANNA IS GONNA SHARE ONE OF THE FIRST PROJECTS WE DID.

WE MADE BLANKETS FOR PEOPLE IN THE ASSISTING LIVING TO KEEP THEM WARM.

DURING THE WINTER MONTHS.

WE WORKED IN GROUPS TO TIE EDGES OF THE FABRIC TOGETHER.

WE LEARNED ABOUT TEAMWORK TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY.

BEING A PART OF EARLY ACT FEELS GOOD BECAUSE I GET TO HELP OTHERS.

AND MS. COCKWELL ACTUALLY HAS AN EXAMPLE OF THE BLANKET THAT THEY MADE.

WE ENDED UP MAKING NINE TOTAL.

UM, SO WE'LL BE DELIVERING THOSE VERY SOON TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS.

UM, NEXT I HAVE JAMESON, UM, TO SHARE, UH, ANOTHER PROJECT THAT EARLY ACT DID.

WE RAN A CONTEST TO COLLECT CAKE MIXES AND CANNED FROSTINGS FOR THE DOC SMITH BASKET, WHICH IS A COMMUNITY PROGRAM TO HELP FAMILIES IN NEED THROUGHOUT WARREN COUNTY AND FRONT ROYAL.

WE COLLECTED 442 ITEMS IN THE FIFTH GRADE.

ONE THAT MEANS WE GET TO APPLY OUR TEACHERS IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL.

BEING AN EARLY ACT HAS MADE ME WANT TO HELP THE COMMUNITY EVEN MORE.

YES, MS. CLARK.

EXTREMELY EXCITED TO BE PIED IN THE FACE

[00:25:01]

.

UM, SO THAT'S A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EARLY ACT.

UH, WE HAVE SEVERAL, SEVERAL OTHER PROJECTS COMING UP, UM, SOON.

SO WE'RE, WE'LL BE EXCITED TO SHARE THOSE WITH YOU LATER.

UM, AND LIKE MISS, UH, TAUBENBERGER SHARED FIFTH GRADE ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO IFLY.

WE WERE AWARDED A GRANT FROM THE WARREN COUNTY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT, UM, THAT COVERED THE, UH, COMPLETE COST FOR THE TRANSPORTATION AND THE ADMISSION TO IFLY FOR THE ENTIRE GRADE LEVEL AS WELL AS CHAPERONES AND TEACHERS.

UM, THE FIELD TRIP INCLUDED A CLASSROOM PORTION WHERE STUDENTS GOT TO LEARN ABOUT PHYSICS, UM, JUST STEM IN GENERAL.

AND, UM, THEN THERE WAS A LAB WHERE THEY GOT TO DO A HANDS-ON EXPERIMENT MAKING PARACHUTES.

UM, THERE WAS A, UH, DEMONSTRATION IN THE WIND TUNNEL TO SHOW, UH, DIFFERENT OBJECTS AND HOW MASS AND STUFF AFFECTS THE FLYING.

AND JAMESON IS GONNA SHARE SOME MORE ABOUT IFLY.

DURING OUR FIELD TRIP, I LEARNED ABOUT THE HISTORY OF IFLY AND HOW IT EVOLVED INTO WHAT IT IS TODAY.

THE FLYING EXPERIENCE WAS REALLY FUN.

LEARNING ABOUT THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE WIND TUNNEL HAS INTRIGUED ME TO PURSUE A FUTURE CAREER IN STEM.

ALL RIGHT, SO LIKE I SAID, ALL OF THE STUDENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLY MOST, YOU KNOW, JUMPED ON THE OPPORTUNITY.

THERE WERE A FEW THAT WERE THAT SHIED AWAY FROM IT, BUT, UM, EVEN SOME TEACHERS, MS. COCKRELL WAS IN THERE FLYING, UM, AS WELL.

WAY OUTTA MY COMFORT .

I DID IT.

I WANTED TO.

SHE DID IT.

WERE KIDS NERVOUS.

I WAS LIKE, IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT.

YEP.

SO, UM, EVEN THE CHAPERONES ENJOYED IT.

SO MACY IS GOING TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HER FLYING EXPERIENCE.

I LEARNED A LOT AT IFLY.

THERE IS AN AIR TUNNEL WITH A FAN IN THE TOP RATHER THAN THE BOTTOM, WHICH PUSHES AIR AROUND THE SIDES OF THE BUILDING AND INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE TUNNEL, WHICH PUSHES AIR UP, WHICH MAKES US FEEL THE FALL.

THE FLYING EFFECT, THE DESIGN OF THE BUILDING AND FAN HELPS SMOOTH THE AIR SO THAT IT IS NOT CHOPPY.

I LEARNED THAT IN ORDER TO FLY YOU NEED MORE SURFACE AREA, WHICH IS WHY YOU CAN'T STAND IN THE WIND TUNNEL.

BUT WHEN YOU START TO FALL FORWARD, THE WIND PICKS YOU UP.

THE EXPERIENCE WAS FUN AND INTERESTING AND WE ACTUALLY HAVE A VIDEO OF ONE OF OUR CHAPERONES FLYING.

LET HER GO, .

LET HER GO.

LET HER GO.

LET HER GO UP.

LET HER GO.

SHE'S UNDER.

LET WHAT, LET HER GO.

YOU SHALL PAY FOR YOUR ACTION.

I WANTED TO DO I RE WAY OUTTA MY .

YES, IT WAS DEFINITELY A ONCE IN A LIFETIME FIELD TRIP FOR A LOT OF THE KIDS AND, AND MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME FOR THEM.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

AND THEN NEXT WE HAVE DR. JOHNSTON, ONE COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

HELLO AGAIN.

UH, I'M EXCITED TO BE HERE TO, UH, HAVE OUR FFA SPONSOR AND FFA PRESIDENT TO TALK ABOUT.

UH, OUR FFA GOINGS ON IS PROBABLY ONE OF OUR MORE POPULAR AND DEFINITELY OUR MOST ACTIVE CLUB .

UM, HELLO, MY NAME IS GRACE ROSS.

I'M THE WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL FFA PRESIDENT.

WE HOLD OUR CHAPTER MEETINGS EACH MONTH.

WE WENT TO VIRGINIA TECH FOR TOURING LIVESTOCK FACILITIES AND WE LEARNED THAT THE MILK FROM THE VIRGINIA TECH DAIRY FEEDS THE VIRGINIA TECH STUDENTS.

WE JUST RECENTLY RAISED MONEY FROM COOKIE DOUGH SALES.

WE RAISED OVER $2,000 FROM THIS WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL, FFA HELD WREATH MAKING WORKSHOPS FOR STAFF, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITY.

WE MADE REEFS.

FFA MEMBERS WENT TO TEACHERS AND STAFF TO BUY REEFS.

WE HAVE FIVE CLASS BUNNIES, SMOKEY, HAZEL, JAMISON, DAISY, AND THUMPER.

THE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS LOVE BRINGING THE RABBITS AROUND THE SCHOOL.

WE RECENTLY HATCHED BABY CHICKS.

UM, I HAVE GONE TO VIRGINIA TECH, UM, VIRGINIA FFA CONVENTION TWICE.

IT'S HELD AT VIRGINIA TECH IN JUNE.

WE LEARN ABOUT LEADERSHIP AND GET TO PARTICIPATE IN CONTESTS FROM WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED IN CLASS.

THANK YOU.

GRACE.

HELLO, I'M LYNN PHILLIPS.

I AM THE NEW AGRISCIENCE TEACHER AT WARREN COUNTY MIDDLE SCHOOL, UH, THROUGH FFA AND AGRISCIENCE CLASS.

WE ARE A DYNAMIC GROUP.

UH, WE HAVE OVER A HUNDRED KIDS IN CLASS RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE 37

[00:30:01]

ACTIVE MEMBERS.

UH, WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR WOODWORKING PROJECTS RIGHT NOW.

SO THE KIDS ARE EXCITED TO BE IN THE AG SHOP.

UH, WE HAVE HATCHED AND RAISED BABY CHICKS.

THEY'RE LEAVING TOMORROW.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

UH, WE HAVE FIVE CLASS RABBITS AND HOPEFULLY MORE TO COME.

MAYBE, UM, A CLASS VEGETABLE GARDEN THAT SUPPORTS OUR BUNNY RABBITS.

UH, WE HAVE, UH, A VERY BUSY GROUP.

UH, WE PROBABLY DO SOMETHING AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, I WOULD SAY.

UH, .

SO WE HAVE BEEN TO THREE LEADERSHIP, UH, WORKSHOPS JUST THIS SEMESTER.

UH, TEAM BUILDING EVENTS HELD AT ROYAL FAMILY BOWLING, UH, WHICH WAS LOTS OF FUN.

UH, I THINK, UH, GRACE AND HANNAH WON IT ALL.

SO THERE WE GO.

UM, WE PARTICIPATED IN THE FRONT ROYAL CHRISTMAS PARADE ON SATURDAY AND IT WAS TOTALLY DRIVEN BY THE KIDS.

THEY, UH, CAME UP WITH A MOCK, UH, PARADE FLOAT AND CAME UP WITH A DESIGN AND DID EVERYTHING THEMSELVES.

SO WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM FOR THAT.

UH, THE MEMBERS HAD A BLAST.

IN OCTOBER, WE WENT TO, UH, VIRGINIA TECH AGAIN TO A LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP, WHICH WAS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL FFA LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP THAT THEY HA HOLD EVERY FALL.

AND IT'S ALL THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA GET TO GO.

AND IT'S A TON OF FUN.

THE KIDS GET TO LEARN HOW TO INTERACT WITH ADULTS AND OTHER STUDENTS AND OTHER FFA MEMBERS SO THAT WHEN WE'RE OUT IN THE PUBLIC THAT THEY KNOW HOW TO SPEAK TO PEOPLE.

AND IT JUST REINFORCES WHAT WE LEARN IN CLASS.

UM, WE HAD, I WANT TO SAY WE HAD LIKE, UH, 17 KIDS GO AND WE PARTNERED WITH SIGNAL KNOB MIDDLE SCHOOL IN STRASSBURG TO BE ABLE TO GO.

IT DIDN'T COST THE COUNTY A DIME TO GO STRASSBURG PICKED UP OUR PORTION OF IT.

SO THAT WAS KIND OF NEAT 'CAUSE THEY HAD SOME EXTRA SEATS.

UH, SO, UH, GRACE TALKED ABOUT US GOING TO VIRGINIA TECH.

WE WENT THERE LAST WEEK TO THE GROW YOUR OWN PROGRAM.

AGAIN.

WE PARTNERED WITH, UH, UH, SIGNAL KNOB MIDDLE SCHOOL TO BE ABLE TO GO TO THAT.

AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THEY CAME UP WITH IT.

SO WE WERE EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO BE INCLUDED.

UM, WE HAD 35 MEMBERS AND PARENTS GET TO GO TO THAT.

SO WE WERE PRETTY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO GO AND EXPERIENCE THAT.

UH, THE KIDS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING ABLE TO GO IN APRIL TO VIRGINIA.

UH, I ALWAYS GET THIS WRONG, VCU VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY, I THINK IT IS.

UM, AND SEE THEIR PROGRAM THAT THEY HAVE THERE.

UM, UH, WE PARTICIPATED IN THE ADVOCATE FOR AGRICULTURE TOUR WITH VIRGINIA FA.

SO THE MEMBERS WE HAD 10 MEMBERS ATTEND.

UM, THIS IS WHERE THE STUDENTS ARE GONNA LEARN HOW TO SPEAK TO LEGISLATORS, UH, IN JANUARY.

AND HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS WILL SAY YES TO IT THIS EVENING.

UM, WE ARE GOING TO GO SPEAK TO, UH, VIRGINIA LEGISLATORS ON VIRGINIA FFA DAY, WHICH IS JANUARY 25TH.

THE STUDENTS WILL SHOW UP IN OFFICIAL DRESS, WHICH IS WHAT GRACE IS DRESSED IN, AND WE'LL GET TO SPEAK TO OUR REPRESENTATIVES AND TELL THEM ABOUT AGRICULTURE.

WE'RE VERY EXCITED THAT THE STUDENTS ARE LEARNING HOW TO SPEAK TO ADULTS, UH, REPRESENTING OUR COUNTY AND OUR SCHOOL AND BEING ABLE TO ADVOCATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND AGRICULTURAL PROGRAMS. UM, 10 STUDENT FFA MEMBERS HOPEFULLY WILL ATTEND.

UH, AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WE DO HAVE SOME FUNDRAISERS COMING UP.

SHE'S ALREADY TOLD YOU ABOUT A COUPLE THAT WE'VE DONE.

UH, IN, UH, FEBRUARY WE PARTNER WITH THE OTHER FFA CHAPTERS AND WE SELL STRAWBERRIES.

UH, THIS PAST YEAR WE WERE NUMBER TWO ON THE EAST COAST FOR THE STRAWBERRY SALES WITH THE VIRGINIA FARM BUREAU.

I MEAN, NOT VIRGINIA, FLORIDA FARM BUREAU, WHICH WAS KIND OF EXCITING 'CAUSE WE ARE JUST THIS TINY LITTLE TOWN IN VIRGINIA AND WE LIKE REALLY DID IT.

UM, SO WE WILL HAVE JERKY IN MARCH AND THAT HELPS US PAY FOR A CONVENTION WHEN WE GO IN JUNE.

AND, UH, ALL OF THE MONIES THAT WE RAISE, FUND PROJECTS, IT FUNDS, ACTIVITIES, TRIPS, AND OUR CONVENTION TRIPS.

UM, BY PARTNERING WITH THE OTHER, UH, FFA TEAMS, UH, WITH WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL, SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL AND SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE GET A LOT DONE.

AND UH, RECENTLY WE DID THE VERA BRADLEY BINGO AT SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL.

ALL FOUR OF US GOT TOGETHER.

IT WAS AMAZING.

THE KIDS GET TO INTERACT TOGETHER.

SO IT'S NEAT WHENEVER THEY GET TO DO THAT BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO, UM, INTERACT WITH OTHER STUDENTS.

AND WHEN WE GET TO GO TO CONTEST, WE SEE THEM OR HAVE DINNER.

'CAUSE WE ALWAYS HAVE, WHEN WE MEET, WE EAT.

SO THEY ALWAYS GET TOGETHER AND THEY KNOW EACH OTHER.

SO IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR US TO GET THINGS DONE.

UM, WE HAVE A BUSY SCHEDULE AND WE TAKE WHAT WE LEARN IN CLASS AND WE APPLY IT INTO THE REAL WORLD.

OUR NEXT THING THAT WE'RE GONNA DO IS THE WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA.

THEY'RE GONNA LAY GRAVES ON LAY WREATHS ON VETERANS GRAVES, UM, IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS.

SO, UH, HOPEFULLY

[00:35:01]

YOU GUYS WILL SUPPORT US AS WE GO ON TO VIRGINIA TECH IN JUNE.

AND, UH, THANK YOU FOR LETTING US BE HERE AND DO THIS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF FUN.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

OKAY,

[2.E. Presentation and Recognition - Dr. Ballenger]

NEXT UP WE HAVE PRESENTATION AND RECOGNITION AND I WILL DEFER TO YOU DR.

PENCE ON THAT.

OKAY.

UM, THIS EVENING WE HAVE MR. ALDI'S LAST MEETING.

IT'S BEEN, UM, A GREAT FOUR YEARS.

I DON'T THINK EITHER OF US COULD HAVE KNOWN, UM, WHEN WE SAT IN OUR TRAINING IN DECEMBER OF 2019, EXACTLY WHAT THE FOUR YEARS WERE GONNA LOOK LIKE.

UM, THROUGH THE PAST FOUR YEARS, YOU'VE CERTAINLY SHOWN YOUR PASSION FOR OUR SCHOOLS, FOR OUR STUDENTS, FOR OUR TEACHERS.

WE'RE ALL VERY APPRECIATIVE OF ALL OF THE WORK AND DEDICATION THAT YOU'VE DONE HERE.

UM, I'M NOT GONNA MISS YOUR PEN CLICKING DURING MEETINGS.

GONNA SAY ABOUT, AND I'LL DO THIS .

BUT, UH, BUT NO, WE REALLY DO APPRECIATE, UM, EVERYTHING, THE SUPPORT THAT YOU'VE GIVEN TO EVERYONE.

AND WE HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL CLOCK THAT OUR BLUE RIDGE TECH STUDENTS OH MAN, UM, MADE FOR YOU.

TIME IS CORRECT TOO.

BETTER THAN OUR CLOCK UP THERE ON THE WALL.

YEAH.

UH, THAT'S REALLY GREAT.

I KNOW.

UM, IT'S, UH, IT'S GREAT TO BE PART OF A GOOD TEAM AND, UH, THIS IS A GOOD TEAM.

I, I WROTE SOMETHING TO SPEAK UP LATER, BUT, UH, I'LL HOLD OFF ON UNTIL THAT COMES UP.

BUT IT'S GREAT TO WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE ON THE SAME PAGE.

AND THIS BOARD, UH, HAS BEEN ON THE SAME PAGE.

WE'VE HAD A FEW LITTLE ROUGH SPOTS HERE AND THERE, BUT BASICALLY OUR GOALS, AND I THINK WE'VE ACHIEVED A LOT OF OUR GOALS, IF NOT ALL OF 'EM, IS TO ADVOCATE FOR THE CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS OF THE WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM.

UM, SO WITH THAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN MY PLEASURE TO, TO SERVE HERE.

AND I KNOW DR.

PENCE AND I HAVE BEEN THROUGH, YOU KNOW, WE CAME ON AND THEN COVID HIT AND THEN WE HAD TO GET A SUPERINTENDENT.

I MEAN, WE WERE REALLY KIND OF SLAMMED.

SO I APPRECIATE HER LEADERSHIP MORE THAN YOU KNOW.

SO THANK YOU DR.

PENCE.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

THANK YOU.

MR. ALDI.

ALSO, I WASN'T QUITE FINISHED, UM, , SO I DON'T LISTEN TO.

SO, UM, YOU'VE ALSO WORKED REALLY HARD ON THE FACILITIES COMMITTEE THROUGH THIS TIME AND THE LFK RENOVATION PROJECT HAS BEEN PROBABLY REALLY YOUR, YOUR CORNERSTONE WORK HERE AND WE APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT THERE.

SO, UM, A BRICK OF DEDICATION TO L AT LFK OUT THERE WILL BE PART AS WELL OF YOUR, OF YOUR THANK YOU.

OKAY.

OKAY, NOW I'M FINISHED.

I THINK , I, I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH WORDS TO SAY SO, UH, BUT IT'S BEEN A REAL PLEASURE.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

AND MADAM CHAIR, UH, MR. RENALDI, I JUST WANNA SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP.

I APPRECIATE, UM, YOUR WISDOM THAT YOU'VE BEEN ABLE TO, TO SHARE AND, UM, YOU KNOW, YOUR DEDICATION TO STUDENTS AND, AND TO THE SCHOOLS OF WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL.

I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU DR.

BALLINGER.

AND LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THIS IS, THIS IS REALLY A TEAM EFFORT HERE AT, UM, I WAS JUST KIND OF ON FOR THE RIDE.

SO IT'S BEEN A GREAT RIDE AND I, I APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS.

BEFORE WE MOVE ON TO COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, IF, IF WE HAVE ANY KIDS OR ANY SCHOOL MEMBERS THAT WANNA TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAVE, YOU'RE, YOU'RE WELCOME TO.

I THINK MOST LEFT.

BUT THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR COMING AND WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE.

MOVING

MR. VALENTINE, IS ANYONE ON OUR LIST? NO ONE HAS SIGNED UP IN ADVANCE.

OKAY.

WOULD ANYONE LIKE TO SPEAK AT THIS TIME? MR. MCFADDEN? GOOD EVENING.

ALRIGHT, UM, CHAIRMAN PENCE.

UH, MR. RINALDI, THIS DR.

FUNK, MRS. LOWE, MRSS AND SUPERINTENDENT BALLINGER.

GOOD EVENING.

I WANNA TAKE A MOMENT TO INTRODUCE MYSELF TO YOU AND TO THOSE IN THIS ROOM AND THOSE WATCHING AT HOME.

MY NAME IS TOM MCFADDEN JR.

AND ON THE HONDO DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER ELECT, EAGER TO JOIN THE ESTEEMED BODY IN JANUARY.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOTED FOR ME.

AND I WANT TO ALSO THANK MRS. AMBER MABE FOR RUNNING AS A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE FOR THE POSITION.

ALTHOUGH SHE DID NOT WIN, IT'S ALWAYS GREAT TO SEE PEOPLE RAISING THEIR HAND TO WANNA BECOME A PUBLIC SERVANT.

SO A BIT ABOUT ME.

UM, AFTER BEING BORN IN DC AND THEN GROWING UP IN IRELAND, I ATTENDED CHRIST COLLEGE FROM 86 TO 90.

I'VE WORKED IN A VARIETY OF JOBS INCLUDING RESTAURANT MANAGER, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, PUBLIC RELATIONS AND MARKETING DIRECTOR, COLLEGE PROFESSOR, AND MOST RECENTLY AS THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ENROLLMENT AT KRISTEN COLLEGE.

I'VE LIVED HERE FOR 23 YEARS, WHERE WITH MY WIFE AND 11 CHILDREN, WE'VE GROWN TO LOVE THE SHENDO VALLEY AND CALL WARREN COUNTY OUR HOME.

PRIOR TO MY ELECTION, THERE WAS A LOT OF CHATTER ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT ME, CONTINUES TO THIS DAY AND WHAT AGENDA I MAY HOPE TO BRING TO THE SCHOOLS HERE IN WARREN COUNTY.

PEOPLE DIDN'T NECESSARILY ASK ME WHAT MY AGENDA WAS, BUT ASSUMED CERTAIN THINGS ABOUT ME DUE TO MY AFFILIATION WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

THE FACT THAT MY CHILDREN ARE HOMESCHOOLED AND I DID NOT HAVE ANY CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM, THEY WONDERED WHAT AGENDA I MIGHT BE TRYING TO IMPOSE.

I'M HERE TO TELL YOU THAT MY ONLY AGENDA IS TO PROVIDE A QUALITY EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERY STUDENT TO ACHIEVE THEIR HIGHEST ACADEMIC LEARNING POTENTIAL, DEVELOP POSITIVE CORE VALUES, REFLECTIVE OUR COMMUNITY AND ENTER HIGHER EDUCATION OF THE WORKFORCE, THEIR CHOICE BEING WELL PREPARED.

I WANNA HELP FURTHER THE MISSION OF THE WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGH ENHANCING COMMUNITY SPORT SUPPORT, INCREASE ACTIVE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT, AND THROUGH CLEAR, CONCISE AND FREQUENT COMMUNICATION.

OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF, I'VE HAD THE IMMENSE PRIVILEGE OF MEETING AND SPENDING TIME WITH SOME OF THE MOST SELFLESS PEOPLE IN WARREN COUNTY, THE SCHOOL PRINCIPALS.

I'VE TALKED WITH THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY THINK THE BOARD CAN DO TO ASSIST THEM WITH POLICIES OR TOPICS THE BOARD SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON.

AT THIS TIME, THESE SCHOOL PRINCIPALS HAVE BEEN VERY INFORMATIVE AND I VALUED THEM, MEETING THEM AND THEIR COLLEAGUES AND LEARNING WHAT THEY LOVE ABOUT THEIR JOBS, THE DIFFICULTIES IN FRONT OF THEM, AND CONCERNS THEY HAVE FOR THEIR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

I'VE TOLD EACH OF THEM THE SAME THING.

MY ONLY AGENDA IS TO HELP THEM.

THE ONES WHO ARE ON THE BOOTS, WHO ARE ON, ARE BOOTS ON THE GROUND, THE FRONT LINES TO DO THEIR JOBS BETTER AND TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF THE KIDDOS.

AS MOST OF THE PRINCIPALS SEEM TO REFER TO THEIR STUDENTS.

I LOOK FORWARD TO OUR WORKING RELATIONSHIP OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.

AND I THINK ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW ME, YOU'LL FIND THAT I'M VERY GOOD AT LISTENING, EXCELLENT AT COMMUNICATING, APPRECIATIVE OF HARD WORK AND JOBS WELL DONE, AND SOMEONE WHO CAN BRING INNOVATION TO THE WAYS, UH, TO THINGS THE WAY THEY HAVE DONE BETTER IN THE PAST.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE TEACHERS, COACHES, SUPPORT STAFF, ADMINISTRATORS, PRINCIPALS, SECRETARIES, SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS, FOOD SERVICE WORKERS, JANITORS, BUS DRIVERS, AND EVERYONE IN BETWEEN FOR YOUR HEROIC EFFORTS AND GIVING OF YOURSELF TO HELP MAKE A QUALITY EDUCATION POSSIBLE FOR THE ALMOST 5,000 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN OUR SCHOOLS.

THE EFFORTS YOU PORT FORTH DAILY WILL AFFECT THESE STUDENTS FAR INTO THE FUTURE.

AND IF THEY DON'T EVER THANK YOU FOR THE ROLE THAT YOU PLAY IN THEIR EDUCATION AND FORMATION, THEY MAY BE THE ONE TO DO DO SO.

THANK YOU.

I'M HERE TO SUPPORT YOU, ASSIST YOU, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SERVE YOU IN MY ROLE AS SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER.

PLEASE GIMME THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AS I PLAN ON DOING FOR ALL THOSE AT THE SCHOOLS AND ASSUME THAT I WANT THE BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN.

AS I ASSUME OF YOU AND TO MY SOON TO BE FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS, I LOOK FORWARD TO BUILDING LONG LASTING RELATIONSHIPS AND HELPING TO MAKE OUR SCHOOLS THE BEST THEY CAN BE.

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL THOSE ELECTED ME TO THIS POSITION.

AND I HOPE TO LIVE UP TO AND EXCEED THE EXPECTATIONS OF THOSE WHO ENTRUSTED ME WITH THE JOB.

AND TO MR. ALDI.

THANK YOU.

I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO FILL YOUR SHOES.

IT'S A TOUGH SHOE, BUT I PROMISE I'LL CLICK MY PEN AS MUCH AS I CAN.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WOULD ANYONE ELSE LIKE TO SPEAK THIS EVENING? WOULD HELLO EVERYBODY.

UM, FORGIVE ME 'CAUSE I HATE PUBLIC SPEAKING.

[00:45:01]

MY NAME IS STACY WISE.

UM, MY DAUGHTER CASSIDY IS A MEMBER OF SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL'S SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.

UM, I SPOKE HERE ONE TIME ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO, AND SADLY IT WAS FOR THE SAME STUFF THAT'S GOING ON NOW.

UM, ALL THESE WONDERFUL PROGRAMS THAT I'M HEARING FROM ALL THESE SCHOOLS ARE WONDERFUL, BUT I REALLY THINK THAT, THAT YOU NEED TO DO BETTER FOR KIDS LIKE MINE.

MY DAUGHTER CAN'T WALK, SHE CAN'T TALK, SHE CAN'T EAT ON HER OWN.

AND, UM, I JUST REALLY THINK YOU ALL NEED TO, UM, WE NEED TO GET A, WE NEED TO ALL COME TOGETHER TO TRY TO GET SOME KIND OF BETTER PROGRAM FOR THESE KIDS AND, AND TO GET PEOPLE TO BE SUPERVISING THESE PROGRAMS FOR THESE KIDS.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO I LIKE TO SPEAK THIS EVENING? HI GUYS.

UM, MY NAME IS SHAY STEELE C**N.

UM, I'M A WARREN COUNTY RESIDENT.

MY CHILD GOES TO SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL OF YOU.

I'VE MET ONE OF YOU.

I KNOW THAT ONE OF YOUR KIDS GO TO MY SCHOOL TOO.

I AM THE ONLY, UH, PARENT VOLUNTEER FOR THIS SCHOOL.

I'VE BEEN THERE SINCE OCTOBER.

I HAVE BEEN BEGGING PEOPLE TO COME AND VOLUNTEER.

SO HERE I AM AGAIN, PLEASE.

BEGGING TO VOLUNTEER.

UM, MONDAY WAS A VERY HARD DAY.

UM, IF ANYBODY EVER HAS QUESTIONS, LIKE I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO COME ASK ME, LIKE IT, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO TAKE THE WHOLE DAY.

UM, JUST BE THERE.

'CAUSE THE KIDS NEED EXTRA BODIES IN THE SCHOOL.

THEY NEED SOMETHING, THEY NEED TO BE HEARD.

UM, I NOW HAVE LIKE CONNECTIONS WITH SO MANY OF THEM THAT THEY JUST WANNA WALK AROUND.

I'M LIKE, NO, YOU GOTTA GO BACK TO CLASS.

YOU CAN COME SEE ME AT LUNCH, BUT I I I'M JUST BEGGING PARENTS TO PLEASE SHOW UP WHEN THEY CAN SHOW UP.

UM, I'M ALSO BEGGING FOR MORE WALKIE TALKIES 'CAUSE THEY'RE BROKEN.

UM, IF WE CAN GET THAT TOO.

UM, BUT YEAH, JUST ASKING AGAIN TO PLEASE COME VOLUNTEER.

IT DOESN'T TAKE A WHOLE LOT OF TIME AND THAT'S IT.

SO I'M GONNA LEAVE NOW, SO BYE GUYS.

THANK YOU.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK THIS EVENING? OKAY,

[3. Consent Agenda]

NEXT UP WE'RE MOVING INTO THE CONSENT AGENDA.

IS THERE A MOTION I MOVE TO ACCEPT THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED? IS THERE A SECOND? I SECOND THAT.

ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

THANK YOU.

NEXT UP WE

[4.A. Superintendent]

HAVE REPORTS, DR.

BALLINGER.

THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

I WILL KEEP MINE PRETTY BRIEF.

UM, WE WILL HAVE SOME SOL TESTING AT OUR HIGH SCHOOLS, UM, AS WE FINISH UP THIS SEMESTER FOR THOSE, UM, BLOCK CLASSES THAT, THAT HAVE SOLS AT THE END OF THE UH, SEMESTER.

UM, ALSO JUST WANTED TO REMIND PARENTS AND, AND THE COMMUNITY TO, UM, LOOK OUT AND SEEK OUR WINTER PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS AT OUR SCHOOLS.

UM, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN CHECK OUR SCHOOL'S WEBSITES, UH, YOUR CHILD'S WEBSITE TO SEE WHAT EVENTS ARE SCHEDULED.

UM, AND THEN I JUST WANTED TO, UH, MENTION THAT, UM, THAT WINTER BREAK WILL BEGIN ON DECEMBER 22ND AND, UH, IT WILL RUN THROUGH JANUARY THE FOURTH.

THANK YOU.

WE'LL DO

[4.B. School Board]

SCHOOL, SCHOOL BOARD REPORTS.

MS. LOWE, WE'LL START WITH YOU.

THANK YOU.

I DON'T HAVE A LOT EITHER THIS TIME.

UM, IT FELT LIKE A SHORT MONTH WITH THE HOLIDAYS.

I DID ATTEND THE, UM, HAWKS NEST ADVISORY PARENT MEETING AT SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, UH, BEFORE THANKSGIVING BREAK.

UM, IT WAS MUCH BETTER ATTENDED THAN THE PREVIOUS ONES, SO I'M GLAD THAT SO MANY OF OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND PARENTS SHOWED UP, UM, AS WELL AS TEACHERS AND, AND STAFF AS WELL.

UM, I FELT LIKE IT WAS A, A PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATION.

THERE WERE A LOT OF GOOD IDEAS PRESENTED, UM, AND DISCUSSED.

SO I THINK THAT WAS HELPFUL.

OUR NEXT MEETING IS GOING TO BE NEXT WEEK.

UM, SO ESPECIALLY PARENTS OF STUDENTS AT SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN COMING OUT, UM, YOU'VE RECEIVED EMAILS FROM DR. JOHNSTON ABOUT THAT.

SO THAT'S COMING UP.

UM, MY ONLY OTHER THING IS TO SAY THANK YOU TO MR. RINALDI.

IT'S BEEN GREAT WORKING WITH YOU THESE PAST TWO YEARS.

UM, AND BEST WISHES.

THANK YOU DR.

FUNK.

THANK YOU.

UM, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE E WILSON MORRISON PLAY.

UM, I KNOW DR.

PENCE WAS THERE AS WELL.

UM, GOSH, I

[00:50:01]

GUESS THAT WAS IN EARLY NOVEMBER.

THEY WERE HERE PRESENTING AND, AND SHARED ABOUT THAT.

AND IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THE KIDS ON STAGE AND, UM, THEY DID A FABULOUS JOB.

UM, I THOUGHT, YOU KNOW, I I LOVED IT.

I'VE NEVER SEEN A SPIN ON FAIRYTALES LIKE THAT, SO I WAS GLAD WE COULD, I COULD ATTEND THAT.

I, I AM PLANNING ON ATTENDING THE BAZAAR AT WARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL ON SATURDAY.

UM, I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE A PART OF THAT ORIGINAL COMMITTEE.

I THINK THAT STARTED THAT THREE YEARS AGO.

SO I AM VERY EXCITED THAT IT IS CONTINUING AND I THINK IT'S EVEN GROWN MORE THAN THAT.

IT'S A GREAT, GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOME, UM, CHRISTMAS SHOPPING.

I KNOW TOO.

UM, THE I'M DETERMINED PROGRAM.

I'M SO VERY GLAD TO SEE THAT.

I'VE BEEN AWARE OF THAT PROGRAM FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS NOW.

UM, AND I'M, I'M REALLY GLAD TO SEE THAT THAT IS, UM, YOU KNOW, COMING TO FRUITION HERE.

UM, AND I KNOW THAT MY VERY OWN SON IS GONNA, UH, BE PARTICIPATING IN, IN, IN THAT.

AND, UM, HE HAS DETERMINED, BUT IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM, SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE SHIRTS.

UM, AND ONE OF THE THINGS I REALLY NOTICED ABOUT ALL THE PRESENTATIONS OF THE, YOU KNOW, THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE OUTSIDE THOSE FOUR CLASSROOM, THE, THE FOUR WALLS IN A CLASSROOM, YOU KNOW, THEY ARE, THOSE ARE THINGS YOU, YOU, UM, MANY OF THEM WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAYBE EXPERIENCE AT SOME POINT.

AND IT'S SO GREAT TO SEE ALL THESE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES AND THESE EXPERIENCES THAT THE KIDS CAN, UM, DO OUTSIDE OF FOUR WALLS IN A CLASSROOM.

BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHEN WE CAN REALLY REACH SOME OF OUR STUDENTS IS WHEN THEY'RE DOING THINGS OUTSIDE OF THOSE FOUR WALLS.

THE I FLY, THAT WAS AWESOME.

I WAS LIKE SO EXCITED TO SEE THEY DID THAT.

'CAUSE I DID DO, I FLY ONE TIME AND I'M NOT SHARING THE VIDEO.

UM, BUT I DO HAVE THAT.

BUT IT'S, IT'S SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THEY COULD EVEN GO DOWN THERE AND, UH, DO THE CLASSROOM ACTIVITY.

SO THAT WAS GREAT.

AND THE FACT THAT WE HAVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR TEACHERS TO APPLY FOR GRANTS TO MAKE SURE IT'S AN EQUAL, UM, YOU KNOW, UH, PLAYING FIELD THAT ALL THE KIDS CAN GO.

I, I JUST, I LOVE HEARING ABOUT THAT.

UM, YOU KNOW, WE WANNA MAKE SURE WE'RE FOCUSING ON THOSE ACADEMICS, BUT IT DOES TAKE JUST EVERYTHING COMING TOGETHER.

SO I, I LOVED HEARING ABOUT THAT.

UM, JUST THOSE, YOU KNOW, IMPORTANT OUTSIDE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCES.

UM, AND THEN CERTAINLY LAST, I I WANT TO THANK YOU AGAIN AS WELL TOO.

UM, MR. ALDI, YOU WELCOMED ME.

YOU KNOW, YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY WELCOMING.

UM, I LOVE YOUR COMMENTARY.

I'M GOING TO MISS YOUR COMMENTARY.

UM, AND, UH, YOU KNOW, I WISH YOU ALL THE, THE BEST OF LUCK IN THE, IN YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

AND JUST THANK YOU FOR, UM, ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR GUIDANCE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN A PART OF THIS BOARD.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK, THANK YOU, DR. FRANK, MS. SALE.

UM, I ALSO WANTED TO THANK EVERYBODY WHO CAME AND PRESENTED TONIGHT.

I LOVE HEARING THE CREATIVE IDEAS AND PROGRAMS THAT, THAT EVERYONE'S COMING UP WITH.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT INNOVATION.

AND I THINK SHE LEFT, BUT MS. STEELE, HER VOLUNTEER EFFORTS TO, TO WALK THE HALLS.

IT'S JUST AMAZING AND, UM, WANTED TO EXTEND AND SUGGEST THAT OTHER PARENTS JOIN HER, ESPECIALLY AS IT'S GETTING COLD OUTSIDE.

GREAT CHANCE TO WALK HALLS AND GET SOME EXERCISE MAYBE AS THEY'RE VOLUNTEERING.

UM, I HAD THE, UH, BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING WITH MR. RINALDI, OUR FINAL ONE, BUT, UM, THE PROJECT IS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE, IT'S ON BUDGET.

LANCE CONSTRUCTION IS JUST KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK.

SO, UM, WE'LL HAVE TO, I'M GONNA COERCE YOU INTO COMING AND SEEING THAT TO THE FINISH LINE WHEN IT'S ALL DONE.

UM, I JUST WANTED TO, TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR, FOR YOUR MENTORSHIP AND, AND FRIENDSHIP AND OUR VERY LONG PHONE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH AREN'T GONNA STOP, UM, .

BUT, UM, I KNOW YOU'RE GONNA DO MORE GREAT THINGS AND, UM, I WANNA WELCOME MR. MCFADDEN TO THE BOARD AND NO PEN CLICKING PLEASE.

BUT, UM, I, I THINK WE'RE, I THINK WE HAVE A, HAVE A BOARD THAT HAS WORKED WELL TOGETHER.

UM, AND I THINK WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BOARD THAT IS GOING TO WORK WELL TOGETHER AND WE'RE GONNA BRING MORE GREAT THINGS TO WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO ENTERING THIS NEW YEAR IN A PHASE OF POSITIVITY AND MORE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND JUST MAKING WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS A VERY FRIENDLY PLACE FOR, FOR STAFF.

UM, AND YEAH, LOOKING FORWARD TO GREAT THINGS.

THANKS.

[00:55:02]

THANK YOU MR. ALDI.

I GOT IT.

BIG ISSUE, .

OH, THANK YOU.

WE NEED TO GO IN THERE.

HARD CHARGING ON THESE FLOOR DRAIN BECAUSE WE WANT TO SET THE TONE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY.

THAT'D BEING LANCE.

SO WE DID, AND, UH, WE HAVE NOT HAD AN ISSUE SINCE THEN.

SO IT WAS LIKE, YOU KNOW, THE, THE STRONG ARM, IT'S LIKE TEACHERS, THEY'LL SAY, UM, START OFF IN SEPTEMBER BEING PRETTY STRICT ON THESE KIDS, BUT THEN LIGHTEN UP AFTER THANKSGIVING.

AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT WE DID WITH, UH, LANCE, AND IT'S, I DON'T THINK WE HAD TO DO THAT.

LANCE HAS JUST SQUARED AWAY ANYWAY, SO I, I WAS REAL HAPPY WITH THAT.

UM, BUT I HAVE ENJOYED SERVING WITH, UH, THE FACULTY ADMINISTRATORS AND DR.

BALLINGER.

AND OF COURSE MY FELLOW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, DR.

PES AND MYSELF CAME ON THIS BOARD A FEW YEARS AGO.

AND, UM, I ADMIRE HER LEADERSHIP AND SHE HAS REALLY STEPPED UP.

I WAS SO RELIEVED WHEN SHE BECAME CHAIRMAN BECAUSE I WAS, I WAS AFRAID THEY MIGHT POINT THE FINGER AT ME .

SO I WAS, I GOT LUCKY THERE.

I'M THE LUCKIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD AS FAR AS THAT'S CONCERNED.

UM, AND, UM, I HAVE SEEN HER GROW IN HER POSITION HERE, AND HER LEADERSHIP IS OUTSTANDING.

YOU WON'T GET ANYTHING, ANYONE, ANY BETTER.

THAT PUTS IN THE TIME AND THE EFFORT.

SO I WANTED TO APPLAUD HER FOR THAT.

UM, SHE DOES PUT UP WITH THE PEN THING.

SO, UM, UH, MS SALE AND I HAVE SAT HERE NEXT TO EACH OTHER FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

YOU'LL SEE US OCCASIONALLY GO LIKE THIS, AND I'M, SHE'S TELLING ME WHAT TO DO OR I'M TELLING HER WHAT TO DO.

AND IT WORKED OUT PRETTY GOOD.

.

SO I'VE REALLY ENJOYED.

UM, BUT SITTING NEXT TO YOU AND, AND SHARING OUR EXPERIENCES, UM, OUR TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS ARE VERY INTERESTING.

AND, UM, WE GET EITHER SHE'LL GET ME STRAIGHTENED OUT OR I'LL GET HER STRAIGHTENED OUT.

SO IT'S KIND OF A TWO-WAY DEAL THERE.

I ENJOY THAT.

IT'S NOT ONE WAY.

UM, AND I WILL MISS OUR TIME TOGETHER.

I REALLY WILL.

UM, NOW I NEED TO TIP MY HAT TO MS. LOWE AND DR.

FUNK.

THEY CAME IN AND IMMEDIATELY WERE PLACED ON THE FINANCE COMMITTEE, WHICH I WAS ONCE AGAIN, THE LUCKIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD NOT TO BE ON THAT COMMITTEE.

SO I, UH, I WANT TO, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO THEM FOR STEPPING UP, UM, BECAUSE WHEN YOU CAME ON, THERE WAS JUST TWO OF US HERE WITH EXPERIENCE, AND OF COURSE, MS. SALIN WAS HERE FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

SHE WAS STILL LEARNING THE ROPES TOO.

SO YOU GUYS REALLY STEPPED UP ON THAT FINANCE COMMITTEE, ESPECIALLY THAT FIRST YEAR.

I REMEMBER THAT WAS EXTREMELY TOUGH, UH, WORKING WITH, UH, THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AT THAT TIME.

SO I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

AND IN SUMMARY, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY AND KIND OF REPEAT WHAT, WHAT MS. SAES HAS SAID.

UM, THIS IS A STRONG SCHOOL BOARD, IT REALLY IS.

AND, UM, WE HAVE SOME GOOD LEADERSHIP.

UH, WE, WE'VE HAD A FEW BUMPS IN THE ROAD, DON'T GET ME WRONG.

UM, AND WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD, IT'S KIND OF LIKE A HALFTIME ADJUSTMENT.

YOU KNOW, YOU, YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S, WHAT WAS WRONG AND HOW DO, HOW DO WE CORRECT IT? UM, AND I THINK WE'VE MADE SOME HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM.

AND I WOULD SAY, UM, UH, MR. MCFADDEN, WHEN HE COMES ON, I AM SURE THAT HE WILL KEEP BUILDING OR KEEP PARTICIPATING IN THE BUILDING THAT WE'VE STARTED HERE.

SO, UM, I WISH HIM ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD HERE.

UM, AND YOU JUST, MY ONLY ADVICE WOULD BE COME IN, KEEP YOUR, YOUR EYES OPEN AND YOUR EARS OPEN AND SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING.

THERE'S A LOT OF TREMENDOUS THINGS HAPPENING IN WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

I, I WISH I HAD GONE TO WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TODAY, BECAUSE I THINK THE EDUCATION THESE KIDS ARE GETTING IS FAR BETTER THAN

[01:00:01]

WHAT IT WAS WHEN I CAME UP.

SO THANK YOU TO WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

THANK YOU TO THIS CURRENT SCHOOL BOARD.

MR. VALENTINE'S BEEN A BIG HELP HERE.

UM, BUT I REALLY APPRECIATED WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU GUYS, SO YOU TOO, BUCK BUCK HAD STRAIGHTENED ME OUT ONE TIME.

HIM AND MR. UM, UH, DR.

BALLINGER, THEY HAD TO STRAIGHTENED ME OUT ONE TIME.

SO, ANYWAY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU, MR. ALDI.

UM, THIS PAST MONTH, I, I VISITED SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

UM, UNFORTUNATELY I MISSED MS. STEELE.

I GUESS I WAS THERE, YOU KNOW, ONE DAY THAT SHE WASN'T THERE.

BUT AS MISS, MISS SALANS JUST SAID, IT IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GET YOUR STEPS IN.

THAT IS A HUGE SCHOOL.

AND SO WHEN I GO, I JUST AM WALKING THOSE LOOPS AROUND UP THERE.

SO THAT'S A, THAT'S GREAT AND A GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

I HOPE MORE OF OUR PARENTS START TO COME AND, AND VOLUNTEER AND START DOING SOME OF THOSE WALKS.

UM, I ATTENDED THE HAWKS NEST MEETING AS WELL.

I THINK THE NEXT ONE IS THE 13TH, RIGHT? YEAH.

AND THAT ONE'S, UM, AVAILABLE JUST ONLINE, SO ANYONE CAN TUNE INTO THAT AND SEE WHAT THE CONVERSATION IS THERE.

UM, WE'VE HAD SOME, I LOVED HEARING ABOUT HILDA'S EARLY ACT CLUB.

WE HAVE, UM, OUR RUSSI EARLY ACT CLUB HAS JUST STARTED THIS YEAR, AND IT'S ALREADY PRETTY ACTIVE.

WE HAVE 32 MEMBERS THERE.

THE DOC SMITH PROJECT THAT WE ARE DOING IS THE COLLECTION OF COOKIES FOR THAT BASKET.

UM, MS. CHADWELL AND I DID NOT, UM, SIGN OURSELVES UP TO BE PIED, BUT WE HAVE MS. BRADLEY, THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT RUSTY TO BE PIED BY THE WINNING GRADE LEVEL.

SO SHE'LL BE DOING THAT AND WE APPRECIATE IT.

UM, ON DECEMBER 16TH, UM, SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING WILL BE HAPPENING AT WALMART, AND THAT'S GONNA BE, UM, KIDS FROM E WILSON EARLY ACT WILL BE THERE FROM 10 TO NOON.

SSI EARLY ACT WILL BE THERE FROM 12 TO TWO.

WE'RE GONNA HAVE SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL THERE, SKYLINE MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND THEN RMA, UM, MIDDLE SCHOOL INTERACT WILL BE THERE.

SO THAT ENTIRE DAY, IF YOU GO SHOPPING AT WALMART, YOU'RE GONNA SEE SOME OF OUR STUDENTS THERE RINGING THE BELL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

UM, SO THAT'S GONNA BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY OF COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR THEM.

I ALSO WENT, AS DR.

FUNK SAID, UM, TO THE E WILSON PLAY.

THAT WAS, I THOUGHT IT WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT.

UM, THIS, OVER THE PAST MONTH, I WAS ABLE TO MEET WITH DELEGATE ELECT OATS.

IT WAS GREAT TO SIT DOWN AND HAVE A CONVERSATION AND TALK TO HER ABOUT HER INTEREST IN WHAT SHE CAN DO AS A DELEGATE MOVING FORWARD FOR OUR STUDENTS HERE IN WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING THAT DIRECT CONNECTION.

WE ALL KNOW HER AND, UM, WE KNOW THAT SHE'S GONNA BE LOOKING OUT FOR US HERE IN WARREN COUNTY.

I ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT AND MEET WITH MR. MCFADDEN AS HE'S GETTING READY TO COME ON.

WE HAD GREAT CONVERSATION.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO, UM, ALL OF US MOVING FORWARD AS A BOARD.

UM, I MIGHT GET YOU A SOFT PEN OR ONE THAT DOESN'T MAKE NOISE.

I MEAN, I DON'T KNOW.

UM, WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT.

UM, AND THEN WE HEARD FROM ALL OF THE, UM, WE HEARD FROM FFA, THE DIFFERENT FUNDRAISERS AND EVENTS THAT THEY DO.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY WHO'S LISTENING TO FOLLOW ANY CLUB THAT THEY CAN FIND ON SOCIAL MEDIA, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE GONNA FIND THE WINTER PLANT SALE IS GOING ON.

I ALREADY HAD PEOPLE ASKING ME ABOUT THE JERKY SALE THAT I HEARD WAS GONNA BE IN MARCH.

THERE'S RAFFLE TICKETS FOR A GORE MEAT PACKAGE GOING ON FROM SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL, FFA RIGHT NOW.

SO THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE GONNA FIND SORT OF WHAT ALL OUR STUDENTS ARE DOING, HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN FUNDRAISERS, WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES YOU CAN GO AND WATCH ALL THE PLAYS AND MUSICALS, THE BAZAAR THAT'S COMING UP.

THAT'S GONNA BE REALLY A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GET OUT AND SEE WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE DOING AND HELP SUPPORT THEM FROM THAT WAY AS WELL.

AND, UM, I THINK THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR TONIGHT, AND OBVIOUSLY THANK YOU MR. RINALDI .

SO

[5.A. Set Date and Time for 2024 Organizational Meeting - Dr. Ballenger]

NEXT WE'RE GONNA MOVE ON TO THE ACTION AGENDA.

OUR FIRST ITEM THIS EVENING IS GONNA BE TO SET THE DATE AND TIME FOR THE 2024 ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING.

DR.

BELLINGER.

THANK YOU, MADAM CHAIR.

WARREN COUNTY, UH, SCHOOL BOARD POLICY FILE.

BCA SCHOOL BOARD ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING REQUIRES THAT AN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING BE HELD IN JANUARY OF EACH YEAR.

ONE OF THE ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN AT THE MEETING IS TO ESTABLISH THE REGULAR MEETING, UH, THE REGULAR MEETING SCHEDULE FOR THAT YEAR FOLLOWING CURRENT PRACTICE.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THIS MEETING BE SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3RD, 2024 AT 5:30 PM IN THE BOARD ROOM OF THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER.

ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? EXCUSE ME.

COULD

[01:05:01]

I JUST SUGGEST A QUESTION? I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT THIS TILL A LITTLE WHILE AGO.

FIVE 30 MEETINGS START.

UM, THIS IS THE MEETING WHERE YOU HAVE TO SELECT A CHAIR AND EVERYTHING, SO IF YOU DO HAVE THAT CLOSED MEETING AT FIVE 30, UM, I DON'T KNOW.

YEAH, I WOULD RECOMMEND WE DON'T DO THE CLOSED MEETING, UM, AT FIVE 30 BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT HAVE, WE WOULD NOT HAVE A CHAIR, VICE CHAIR AT THAT POINT IN TIME.

AND, AND SO SINCE WE'LL BE ON A BREAK THERE, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY WOULDN'T BE A, AS BIG A NEED.

AND, UH, YEAH.

SO MAYBE A SIX 30 START AS, OR DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE IT AT A FIVE 30 START? AND THEN IF YOU NEED TO GO IN EXECUTIVE SESSION AFTERWARDS, YOU CAN GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION AFTERWARDS.

I'M, WELL, WELL, IF WE START AT FIVE 30, BUT THEN WE END UP NEEDING TO GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION, WE WOULD BE STARTED EARLIER AND WE COULD DO IT.

I'M FINE WITH MY ARE YOU OKAY WITH FIVE 30? FIVE 30 GOOD.

? YEAH, WE KNOW IT'S OKAY WITH YOU, RALPH, AND I THINK THAT'S HOW WE HAVE IT WRITTEN IN THE PROPOSED MOTION.

NEXT UP

[5.C. Special Education Advisory Committee 2022-2023 Annual Report]

WE HAVE THE SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

20 22 23 ANNUAL REPORT.

HELLO? SORRY, I'M LOSING MY VOICE.

.

UM, THE SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

THE FALL ANNUAL REPORT IS A REPORT OF WHAT OCCURRED IN CAC DURING THE PRIOR SCHOOL YEAR.

UH, WE'VE SUBMITTED THE REPORT AND WE WOULD LIKE TO MOVE THAT.

YOU GUYS ACCEPT IT.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR MS. GRIFFITH? UM, THE ONLY, THE ONLY QUESTION THAT I HAD, IT WAS, UM, REGARDING LIKE THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.

I SEE LIKE THERE'S A LOT OF INTERIM OR VACANT VACANT POSITIONS.

IS THAT, SO WE HAD TO HAVE THE REPORT ACCEPTED AND WE HAD TO ASK SOME QUESTIONS TO THE STATE, UM, BECAUSE A LOT OF OUR, OUR MEMBERSHIP IS NEWER, SO, UM, WE GOT CLARIFICATION ON WHO COULD SIT ON OUR EXECUTIVE, UM, BOARD, AND NOW WE HAVE PERMANENT PEOPLE IN PLACE.

SO I WILL BE THE NEW CHAIRMAN FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.

UM, AND WINIFRED ELINGER WILL BE THE VICE CHAIR.

SHE, UM, IS ANOTHER MOTHER OF A STUDENT WITH A DISABILITY.

SORRY, I'M LOOKING FOR OUR CURRENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

UM, DO YOU HAVE ALL THE CURRENT POSITIONS FILLED FOR THE CURRENT YEAR, LIKE TREASURER AND SECRETARY AND AS WELL? UH, TREASURER IS VACANT.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TREASURER.

UM, SECRETARY IS ALSO VACANT.

WE HAVE CHRIS A BREEDEN AS THE INTERIM.

UM, UH, YEAH, SO ANY PARENTS THAT ARE LISTENING, IF YOU WANNA COME OUT TO THE CIAC MEETINGS.

UH, THE NEXT ONE IS GOING TO BE MARCH 15TH.

THAT'S SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL.

UM, THEY'RE COMING TO SEE THE COFFEE CART THAT WE OFFER THERE, AND THEN WE WILL HOLD A MEETING DIRECTLY AFTER THAT.

SO IF YOU'RE A PARENT THAT WANTS TO COME TO THAT MEETING, PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE MAIN OFFICE WITH YOUR, UM, IDENTIFICATION AND WE WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU THERE.

AND THEN WE HAVE ANOTHER MEETING ON MAY 15TH, UM, AT OUR ELEMENTS PROGRAM

[01:10:01]

THAT WILL BE AT 15TH STREET AT DIVERSIFIED MINES.

AND THAT IS GOING TO BE, OOPS, I JUST GAVE YOU THE WRONG DATE.

UH, MAY 13TH AT 11:00 AM IS THE ELEMENTS PROGRAM MEETING.

I DIDN'T HEAR THE MARCH 15TH TIME, UH, 9:00 AM OKAY.

YES, MA'AM.

AND ALSO, IF YOU COME TO THE ELEMENTS MEETING, YOU NEED TO BRING YOUR IDENTIFICATION AS WELL, BECAUSE THOSE ARE BOTH PROGRAMS THAT I HAVE STUDENTS IN THE BUILDING.

UM, AND I KNOW THAT MAYBE A LOT OF THE, OUR PARENTS WHO AREN'T LISTENING, UM, AND I'M SORRY TO MAYBE ASK YOU TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE.

THAT'S FINE.

BUT, UM, I'M VERY FAMILIAR WITH CAC, UH, AS A FORMER CHAIR OF IT.

UM, BUT FOR OUR PARENTS WHO ARE LISTENING, COULD YOU MAYBE JUST, AND SO IF THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO BRING UP THE DOCUMENTS AND LOOK AT IT, COULD YOU SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THE PURPOSE IS? THAT IT'S, YOU KNOW, UM, IT'S A REQUIREMENT OF THE STATE, WHAT THE PURPOSE IS AND HOW IT'S ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS TO, YOU KNOW, PARTICIPATE WITH OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM.

WOULD YOU MIND, OR I DON'T KNOW IF MRS. MCDONALD OH, ABSOLUTELY.

WHOEVER WANTS TO SHARE BE LITTLE AND THEN IF SHE WANTS TO ADD SOMETHING, SHE'S WELCOME TO.

SO THE SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE, UM, WORKS CLOSELY WITH WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

UM, SO MS. MCDONALD ATTENDS OUR MEETINGS.

UM, MS. LEE ALSO ATTENDS OUR MEETINGS.

THAT'S OUR DIRECTOR AND OUR DEPUTY DIRECTOR.

UM, AND PARENTS CAN, UM, COME IN, THEY CAN HAVE AN OPEN SESSION JUST LIKE THEY HAVE AT A BOARD MEETING, UM, BECAUSE WE'RE A BOARD AS WELL, AND THEY CAN VOICE THEIR CONCERNS.

UM, WE HAVE PRESENTATIONS.

UM, THE HOUSE IS PRESENTED AT OUR LAST MEETING, A VERY GOOD PRESENTATION ABOUT ADAPTIVE PE.

UM, WE HAD QUITE A FEW NEW PARENTS SHOW UP BECAUSE WE SENT OUT A CALLER.

UM, SO WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO, UM, ALSO IMPROVE, IMPROVE AND INCREASE OUR PARENTAL, UM, SUPPORT AND GET THEM TO COME OUT AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS BECAUSE THIS INFORMATION GOES DIRECTLY TO OUR DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES AND TURN OUR PRINCIPALS, DR.

BALLINGER, AND THEN THE SCHOOL BOARD.

SO IT'S A WAY TO HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD IN WARREN COUNTY, UM, IF YOU HAVE A STUDENT, UM, NOT ONLY WITH AN IEP, BUT WITH A 5 0 4 PLAN AS WELL.

SO IT'S A VERY GOOD OPPORTUNITY, UM, TO COME AND BE A PART OF OUR PROGRAMS AND KIND OF ADVISE AND GIVE YOUR OPINION AND HELP TO SHAPE THE WAY THAT THEY MOVE FORWARD.

ANYTHING ELSE? IS IT JUST OPEN TO PARENTS OR COULD GRANDPARENTS AS WELL? OR JUST JUST PARENTS? UM, SO WE TAKE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS AND THEN WE WOULD SEE WHERE THEY ALIGN WITH WHAT THE VDOE SAYS, WHO CAN BE A MEMBER WHO CAN'T.

SO LIKE, IF THEY'RE IN A GUARDIANSHIP ROLE, I'M PRETTY SURE THEY CAN BECOME A MEMBER.

UM, BUT THERE IS A WHOLE GUIDANCE DOCUMENT ON MEMBERSHIP AND SO I HAVE A COPY OF THAT.

OKAY.

YOU GUYS HAVE A COPY OF THAT? OR ANY PARENTS THAT ARE HERE? UM, YOU CAN REACH OUT TO ME.

MY EMAIL'S S GRIFFITH AT, UM, WCP S WE ALSO HAVE A CX EMAIL THAT'S CX AT WCPS THAT, UH, ONE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS WILL CHECK AND IT BACK TO YOU AND, UM, GIVE YOU ALL THE INFORMATION THAT YOU WOULD NEED.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

THAT'S IT, MS. MCDONALD.

RIGHT? OKAY.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE.

.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

IS THERE A MOTION ON THE REPORT? I MOVE, I MOVE THAT THE SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE FALL 2023 CAC ANNUAL REPORT BE APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

IS THERE A SECOND? I'LL SECOND.

ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

THANK YOU MS. GRIFFITH.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

[5.E. Secondary Truancy Prevention Officer Contract from 10 months to 12 months - Mr. Smith/ Mr. Haines]

NEXT UP WE HAVE SECONDARY TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICER CONTRACT FROM 10 MONTHS TO 12 MONTHS.

MR. SMITH, THANK YOU AND GOOD EVENING.

AT OUR PREVIOUS WORK SESSION HELD IN, UH, NOVEMBER, UH, MR. HAYNES, OUR SECONDARY TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICER, UH, GAVE US A REPORT IN REGARDS TO, UH, HIS ROLE AND HOW IT HAS CHANGED.

UM, AND WE WERE ABLE TO, TO ADDRESS SOME QUESTIONS DURING THAT TIME.

UH, AT THIS TIME, I WOULD ACTUALLY LIKE TO READ, AT LEAST FOR THE AUDIENCE AND FOR THOSE FOLKS, UH, WATCHING, UM, AND FOR OUR FUTURE, UH, RECORDING

[01:20:01]

OF THIS MEETING.

UM, THE EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY OF, UH, 10 MONTHS TO 12 MONTHS.

OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, THERE'S BEEN A TREMENDOUS INCREASE IN THE WORKLOAD FOR OUR TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICERS, PARTICULARLY AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL.

THIS PAST SUMMER, OUR SECONDARY TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICER WAS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN COURT ON ALL BUT TWO FRIDAYS FROM JUNE 2ND THROUGH AUGUST THE 11TH.

THERE IS A LOT OF WORK THAT HAS TO GO INTO THESE CASES, INCLUDING GAINING INFORMATION FROM SERVICE PROVIDERS, DISCUSSING ISSUES WITH PARENTS, AND RESPONDING TO THE ASSIGNED DEFENSE ATTORNEYS, UH, GUARDIAN AD LITEM, AND THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY.

ONCE A PETITION IS FILED, THE CODE OF VIRGINIA REQUIRES THE ADJUDICATION TAKE PLACE WITHIN 120 DAYS.

PETITIONS THAT ARE FILED IN MARCH, APRIL, MARCH AND APRIL, AND POTENTIALLY MAY, WILL THEREFORE REQUIRE TRIALS OVER THE SUMMER.

THE COURT HAS BEEN ORDERING STUDENTS ON OUR SECONDARY CASELOAD TO PARTICIPATE WITH SUMMER SCHOOL.

THE SECONDARY TRUANCY OFFICER WOULD BE ABLE TO MONITOR THEIR ATTENDANCE AND ADDRESS ANY ISSUES AS THEY ARISE.

IN ADDITION, THE OFFICER WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO TRANSPORT STUDENTS WHEN NEEDED.

UM, AND FAILURE TO PARTICIPATE IN SUMMER SCHOOL CAN RESORT RESORT OR RESULT IN THE FILING OF CHENS THE CHILD IN NEED OF SERVICES.

PETITION FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT ALREADY BEFORE THE COURT.

AS LONG, UM, AS THE REQUIRED ATTENDANCE MEETINGS HAVE TAKEN PLACE, THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS ON THE SECONDARY OFFICER'S DOUBLE LAST YEAR, AND THE OFFICER HAS ALREADY FILED EIGHT PETITIONS SO FAR THIS YEAR.

FIVE OF THOSE PETITIONS ARE BRAND NEW CHIN TRUANCY CASES BASED UPON HISTORICAL DATA, THE SECONDARY OFFICER WOULD EXPECT A HUNDRED CHIN CASES.

UH, BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, THE COURT IS GOING TO BE REFERRING CASES TO THE FAMILY ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING TEAM.

INSTEAD OF UTILIZING THE INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM, UH, FAP, THE ACRONYM RE UH, REFERRALS WILL TAKE, UH, ADDITIONAL, UH, TIME AMOUNT OF TIME TO COMPLETE.

UH, WHEN COMPARED TO THE, UM, IDT REFERRALS, PRESENTING CASES TO, UH, FAP AND IDT TAKES PLACE BETWEEN ADJUDICATION AND DISPOSITION.

THE COURT SCHEDULES, UH, COUPLED WITH THE FAMILY'S NEEDS REQUIRES THE OFFICER COMPLETE THESE REFERRALS AND PRESENTS THEM TO THE INTER INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM OVER THE SUMMER.

OUR SECONDARY OFFICER HAS BEEN PERFORMING MANY OF THESE SERVICES OVER THE SUMMER.

IN THE PAST, THE OFFICER HAS BEEN COMPENSATED BY THE USE OF A TIME SHEET AND OR COMP TIME.

HOWEVER, WITH THE INCREASE IN THE WORKLOAD, UH, THIS IS NO LONGER A FAIR COMPENSATORY METHOD.

IT IS RECOMMENDED TO INCREASE THE SECONDARY TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICER'S CONTRACT FROM 10 MONTHS TO 12 MONTHS, UH, EFFECTIVE THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, JANUARY 1ST.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FOR MR. SMITH? IS THERE A MOTION? UH, YES.

MADAM CHAIR.

I'LL MAKE THAT ONE.

I MOVE THAT THE WARREN COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES THE SECONDARY TRUANCY PREVENTION OFFICER FROM A 10 MONTH, UM, TO A 12 MONTH CONTRACT EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1ST, 2024.

IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND? ANY DISCUSSION ON THAT? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOSED? NO.

GREAT.

THANK YOU MR. SMITH.

[5.F. First Reading of 2024 - 2025 School Calendar - Mr. Smith]

THANK YOU.

AND THEN WE'RE GONNA HAVE THE FIRST READING OF THE 20 24 25 SCHOOL CALENDAR.

THANK YOU.

POLICY ICID REQUIRES THE SCHOOL BOARD TO ESTABLISH THE DIVISION'S CALENDAR IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE REGULATIONS AND TO INCLUDE CONTINGENCIES FOR MAKING UP TEACHER DAYS AND DATE AND TEACHING HOURS MISSED BY EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.

THE ATTACHED CALENDAR IS IN ITS FIRST READING, IS BEING PRESENTED FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THE 20 24 20 25 SCHOOL YEAR.

KEY INFORMATION REGARDING THE PROPOSED CALENDAR, UH, IS LISTED, UH, BELOW IN YOUR DOCUMENT.

A FEW OF THOSE HIGHLIGHTED DATES AUGUST 13TH.

THIS WOULD ALL BE OF AUGUST 13TH WOULD BE THE FIRST DAY OF, UH, SCHOOL.

SEPTEMBER 12TH WOULD BE OUR FIRST PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE.

OCTOBER 15TH WOULD BE THE END OF OUR FIRST ADVISORY.

NOVEMBER 25TH THROUGH THE 29TH WOULD BE OUR FALL BREAK.

DECEMBER 20TH WOULD BE THE END OF SECOND ADVISORY.

FIRST SEMESTER, DECEMBER, UH, 23RD, UM, THROUGH

[01:25:01]

JANUARY 4TH WOULD BE WINTER BREAK FOR STUDENTS.

UH, DECEMBER 23RD, 2024 THROUGH JANUARY 1ST, 2025.

UM, WINTER BREAK FOR STAFF.

FEBRUARY, UM, UH, SIXTH WOULD BE PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE.

MARCH 11TH WOULD BE THE END OF THE ADVISORY.

APRIL 18TH THROUGH THE 25TH WOULD CORRESPOND WITH OUR SPRING BREAK.

PERHAPS DURING THE SECOND READING.

UH, WE WOULD BRING THE CALENDAR BACK TO SHIFT THIS, UH, A WEEK EARLIER FROM, UM, APRIL 14TH THROUGH THE 21ST.

THE REASON, UH, THIS BEING IS THAT, UM, WITH EASTER FALLING, UH, KIND OF LATE IN THE SPRING THIS YEAR, UM, AND WITH SOLS, UH, THE FARTHER WE GO INTO SPRING BREAK, THE MORE WE START TO HIT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF WHEN WE MAY BE DOING SOLS OR PERHAPS WHEN WE'RE PREPARING, UH, FOR THOSE SOLS.

SO IT WAS, UM, IT WAS SUGGESTED BY INSTRUCTION TO MOVE THAT FROM THE 14TH TO THE 21ST TO GET I THINK AN ADDITIONAL FOUR DAYS OF CONSISTENCY, UM, OR FOUR ADDITIONAL DAYS FOR SOL UH, PREP.

MAY 22ND WOULD BE THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.

UH, THE CALENDAR WOULD REFLECT THE 1044 INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS.

990 IS THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF INSTRUCTIONAL HOUR HOURS.

THIS CALENDAR PROVIDES 54 BANK INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER CANCELLATIONS.

THERE ARE 11 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS BUILT INTO THIS CALENDAR.

THIS IS THE FIRST READING OF THE PROPOSED 20 24, 20 25 SCHOOL CALENDAR.

THERE WILL BE THREE READINGS OF THE CALENDAR AND A REQUEST FOR APPROVAL AT THE THIRD READING.

CAN YOU, I SEE BOTH CONFERENCE DAYS ARE ON THURSDAYS.

YES.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN, UM, HOW THAT DAY IS DECIDED? WELL, PART OF IT IS WHERE WE ARE AS FAR AS WITH INTERIMS. UM, WE TRIED TO AT LEAST GET, UH, A, A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME OR CERTAIN AMOUNT OF INSTRUCTION AND THOSE TYPE OF THINGS UNDER OUR BELT BEFORE WE CALL OUR PARENTS IN.

SO A LOT OF THOSE KIND OF CENTER AROUND SOME OF OUR INTERIM TIMES.

THE ONLY THING I WAS NOTICING IS, UM, IT'S NITPICKING REALLY, BUT JUST WITH THE PUBLIC CONTENT HERE, I THINK SOME OF THE YEARS ARE, YEAH, THE YEARS ARE, UH, YEAH, THE, I JUST, BUT YES, THAT, THAT, THAT WILL BE CHANGED WHEN WE HAVE OUR SECOND READING.

UM, THE, THE READING HAS THE 20, UH, FOURTH IN PLACES WHERE IT, AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, THAT WOULD BE THE 25TH.

THERE APPEARS TO BE A 23 IN THERE TOO.

THAT SEEMS LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO GO AWAY , BUT WE'LL MAKE SURE THAT THAT PERSON GOES AWAY AND WE'LL PUT IN THE CORRECT YEAR.

ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FOR MR. SMITH BEFORE WE SEE THE SECOND READING? THANK YOU MR. SMITH.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

I HAVE THAT ENDING.

OUR ACTION AGENDA THIS EVENING BRINGS US BACK TO APPROVAL,

[6.A. Approval of December 6, 2023 Personnel Report - Mr. Lee]

UM, FROM OUR CLOSED SESSION ITEMS. DO WE NEED TO GO BACK INTO CLOSE FINISH? ASK, FINISH DISCUSSING.

LET'S, YEAH.
