UM, TONIGHT'S LESSON IS GONNA BE A MATH BASED LESSON WHERE THE STUDENTS LEARN TO USE MATH NETS, WHICH ARE 2D REPRESENTATIONS OF 3D OBJECTS. I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH MATH NETS UNTIL THIS BECAME PART OF THE NEW STANDARDS FOR MATH, AND THEY USED THOSE NETS TO HELP BUILD PAPER ROBOTS. SO, UM, MRS. SHE'S STARTED TEACHING AT E WILSON IN 2009 WHEN I WAS ACTUALLY AT E WILSON. SO I'VE SEEN HER FROM A BRAND NEW TEACHER THROUGH TODAY, AND SHE TAUGHT SECOND GRADE FOR ABOUT 15 YEARS. THEN SHE WAS AN INSTRUCTIONAL COACH, UM, AT E WILSON. AND THEN SHE DECIDED SHE WANTED TO GO BACK IN THE CLASSROOM AND WE WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A SECOND GRADE POSITION FOR HER. SO IT WORKED PERFECTLY FOR US. SHE'S JUST VERY ENGAGING, CREATIVE, COLLABORATIVE. UM, AND HER STUDENTS REALLY ENJOY THESE PROJECTS. EVERY ADVISORY, SHE HAS AT LEAST ONE THEME TODAY. SO LIKE, THE DAY IS BASED ALL AROUND A SPECIFIC THEME AND IT'S ALL EDUCATIONAL AND THEY JUST, SHE TAKES THEIR INTEREST AND INCORPORATES IT INTO WHAT SHE'S DOING IN THE CLASSROOM. AND YOU'LL SEE THAT HERE SHORTLY. UM, HER STUDENTS REALLY LOVE MINECRAFT, SO IT WAS JUST NATURAL FOR HER TO RELATE THIS TO MINECRAFT, UM, SO THAT THEY WOULD BE EVEN MORE ENGAGED. AND I DECIDED AFTER DOING IT WITH THEM THAT THE ANIMAL CHARACTER IS MUCH SMOOTHER. THE PERSON HAD VERY SKINNY ONES, SO I WAS MORE INVOLVED WITH THAT. BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE STATIONS THEY WOULD HAVE THAT DAY. THEY ALSO GOT FUN MINECRAFT GLASSES AND THINGS THAT JUST MAKE THEM PRETEND THAT THEY'RE NOT LEARNING, BUT THEY ACTUALLY ARE. WE ALL CAME TOGETHER AND, AND, AND, YOU KNOW, VERY QUICKLY PICKED HIM TO DO IT. HE DID A GREAT JOB. NEW FULL-TIME SUPERINTENDENT WITH DR. WRIGHT. DECISION WAS UNANIMOUS WITH GREAT COLLABORATION. THAT WAS A VERY BIG MOVE ON OUR PART. AND ON THE, ON THE COUNTY'S PART, WE FULLY IMPLEMENTED THE NEW POLICY ABOUT THE CELL PHONE USE FROM BELL TO BELL, THE LACK OF CELL PHONE USE FROM BELL TO BELL. WE CREATED A POLICY ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA USE FOR EMPLOYEE AND STUDENT INTERACTIONS, WHICH HOPEFULLY WILL BE APPROVED TONIGHT. WE CREATED AND APPROVED A POLICY PROMOTING THE DIGNITY OF EVERY STUDENT. WE CREATED AND APPROVED A POLICY ABOUT FLAGS, DECOR, AND DIS UH, DISPLAYS. WE CONTRACTED WITH THE SBMA FOR POLICY SERVICES. THROUGH THE SBMA, WE UPDATED AND REVISED ALMOST ALL OF OUR CURRENT POLICIES TO MEET VIRGINIA CODE THAT HADN'T BEEN DONE IN A WHILE. WE RECEIVED EXTRA FUNDING ABOVE AND BEYOND OUR LEVEL BUDGETING FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS, INCLUDING THE NEW TILE FLOORS AND TENNIS COURT REPAIR. WE CREATED AN UPDATED MOA WITH THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE. WE REMOVED THE EASEMENT FROM OUR, UH, WARREN COUNTY HIGH, OUR HIGH SCHOOL PROPERTY. WE RENEWED OUR CONTRACT WITH ESS TO ALLOW US TO HAVE THE BEST SUBSTITUTE FILL RATES IN YEARS. AND TO SAVE MONEY, WE HIRED MR. JODY LEE AS THE NEW SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, WHICH IS SEEMS TO BE VERY WELL RECEIVED. WE UPDATED THE SALARY SCALES FOR OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM EMPLOYEES. WE ESTABLISHED A NEW CUSTODIAL CONTRACT FOR OUR BUILDINGS AT A GREATLY REDUCED COST. WE APPROVED THE PAYMENT OF EMPLOYEE RETENTION BONUSES LAST JUNE. WE APPROVED THE NEW LITER LITERACY PLAN FOR 20 25, 20 27. WE ADDED MUCH NEEDED MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY COACHES. WE SERVED OVER 258,000 MEALS TO A HUNDRED, 1500 TO 1800 STUDENTS OVER THE SUMMER. AND WE BEGAN WORK ON THE SCHOOL BOARD GOVERNANCE AND OPERATING PROTOCOL HANDBOOK AND MORE. SO IT'S PRETTY NEAT TO GO BACK AND LOOK AND SAY, HERE'S SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WENT ON. OBVIOUSLY THERE'S A LOT OF LEARNING, A LOT OF OTHER THINGS THAT WENT ON THAT IMPROVED, BUT THINGS THAT WE WERE, THE, THE BOARD THAT WAS HERE LAST YEAR SPECIFICALLY HELPED PUSH FORWARD WITH THE HELP OF THE ADMINISTRATION. UM, I, ONE THING THAT WE FAILED TO PUT ON OUR AGENDA THIS EVENING, WE DIDN'T OFFICIALLY SAY WE WOULD NOT HAVE THE BUDGET COMMITTEE ANYMORE AS A STANDING MEETING, SO WE'LL TRY TO CARRY THAT OVER FOR THE WORK SESSION, UM, LATER THIS MONTH. SO THAT WOULD BE ONE THING THAT I WOULD ADD. UM, MR. MCFADDEN'S ALREADY, UM, BROUGHT MY ATTENTION TO THE POLICY BCE, WHICH IS, UM, OUR POLICY THAT DISCUSSES OUR STANDING COMMITTEES. SO THAT'S ONE THAT WE COULD HAVE AT OUR WORK SESSION TO BRING UP, UM, LATER THIS MONTH AGAIN, TO, TO ADD OUR NEW COMMITTEE. AND THEN ASSUMING WE OFFICIALLY DISSOLVE OUR BUDGET COMMITTEE SUBCOMMITTEE, WE CAN, UM, TAKE THAT OUT OF THERE. UM, AND THEN, YES, THE FIELD TRIP COMMUNICATION FORM, ACTUALLY WHEN I WAS CALLING AROUND AND TALKING TO, UM, SOME OF OUR ADVISORS AND TEACHERS THAT WOULD BE GOING ON A LOT OF THESE OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIPS, THAT WAS A CONCERN. LIKE WHAT WOULD THIS PERMISSION SLIP LOOK LIKE? HOW AM I NOT GONNA GET IN TROUBLE BY TEXTING STUDENTS WHILE WE ARE 12 HOURS AWAY? AND SO I DO THINK IF WE HAD JUST ONE UNIFORM STATEMENT THAT EVERY SCHOOL WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO THAT GIVES THAT PERMISSION WHEN THE PARENT IS GIVING PERMISSION FOR TRAVEL, UM, TO ALSO JUST SAY RIGHT THERE HOW YOU'RE GONNA BE CONTACTING WHILE YOU'RE AWAY, THEN THAT I THINK WOULD REALLY MAKE EVERYBODY A LOT MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE NEW POLICY THAT WE JUST PUT IN PLACE. AND THEN, UM, MAYBE WHEN, UH, DR. WRIGHT, WHEN YOU MEET WITH, UM, THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR, YOU CAN ASK ABOUT THAT WEBSITE UPDATE FOR US. , MY LIST . I THOUGHT PROBABLY IT MIGHT BE , SO I THINK THAT WOULD BE GREAT. UM, OKAY. AND THEN, YES, I AGREE WITH YOU MR. KLEIN.
